Some Chicago Updates!! Monday, Sept 26

Hello Ladies,

Entertainment for after the "Early Arrival Dinner", Thursday, September 29th at 9:30PM, State Ballroom, Palmer House Hilton Hotel!

Presenting, "The Sturgis Improv Group!" This entertaining group of comedians will have you rolling in the aisles with their special brand of improv comedy. They've been studying Richard and the Senior Bachelor endeavor so who knows what will come up. We'll also have some Great Door Prizes from our Senior Bachelor supporters to give away as well.

So plan to spend a rollicking evening with Richard at the Improv!

Also, the photography company at the Odyssey, Sharpshooters, says they will include a 4x6 copy of a group shot in the $10 special Senior Bachelor package! They said that once we get on board on Friday evening we immediately proceed up to the Observation Deck where they will take the group photo. The photos will be displayed for purchase when we disembark.

I've updated the "Meet the SB" page with all the Chicago information including the agenda. When you register, you will be provided a detailed Agenda and maps of all the meeting rooms. Remember, registration begins at 9:00AM on Friday but is available all day long. Same with Saturday.

More later!

-joe

PS- Keep an eye on the weather. It looks like we may luck out! Don't forget to pack an umbrella just in case.

Thanks, Chandra, for letting us know on the previous blog that it will be brisk in Chicago this coming weekend. That helps, as we decide what to pack. Since it was the last comment on the previous blog, maybe some bloggettes didn't see it.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in just a few days!!!

A man was walking along a beach and stumbled across an old lamp. He picked it up, rubbed it and out popped a genie.

The genie said "You released me from the lamp, blah blah blah. This is the fourth time this month and I'm getting a little sick of these wishes so you can forget about three.

You only get one wish!"

The man sat and thought about it for a while and said, "I've always wanted to go to Hawaii but I'm scared to fly and I get very seasick.

"Could you build me a bridge to Hawaii so I can drive over there to visit?"

The genie laughed and said, "That's impossible! Think of the logistics of that!

How would the supports ever reach the bottom of the Pacific? Think of how much concrete! How much steel!

You're going to have to think of another wish."

The man agreed, and tried to think of a really good wish.

Finally, he said, "I've been married and divorced four times. My wives always said that I don't care and that I'm insensitive.

So, I wish that I could understand women.

I want to know how they feel inside and what they're thinking when they give me the silent treatment.

I want to figure out why they're crying, know what they really want when they say 'nothing', and know how to make them truly happy."

The genie paused for a while and said, "How many lanes do you want on that bridge?"

Even do it a little at work, nice office in a house, like a big family, sent my boss a message with a cartoon alien logo, how cute, how many bosses would respond as if nothing is out of the ordinary! ...giggle, giggle. I would say to the bartender, yes, a dirty martini for a very dirty, dirty girl.. anyway - it always got a laugh and sometimes a free dirty martini - Hey It was just silly fun for me and she loved me anyway, so we still laugh about that. Coach aka Sharon So great to see you again! Wondered what you were up to. I've been super busy, too, with school stuff, even on weekends. But tonight, got home early and making a delicious dinner. You can smell fall in the air so we're having meatloaf (sorry vegetarians), garlic mashed potatoes, and salad. Mmm...comfort food.

I grouped my little Gr 4s today for a Science project on Sound. Each group is going to be a "band" and make their own instruments to perform a song in percussion. So we're going to have guitars made out of shoe boxes and rubber bands, maracas out of water bottles filled with rice or macaroni, trumpets out of a long wrapping paper rolls, drums out of coffee cans, etc. etc. Then the kids have to make posters to advertise their band, when and where they're "playing", etc. It's a really fun project to show them how to make different sounds. We'll be working on it for about 2 weeks before they "perform."

The other thing they're working on is designing "Gross Menus" (without potty humour) to learn about alliteration, exaggeration, and powerful adjectives. They absolutely LOVE this writing project because all kids love to be gross but usually aren't allowed to be. Anyway, school is a lot more fun now than it was when I was a kids.

Have a great evening everyone!

Hi to the "old" bloggettes and have fun in Chicago to the others.

Good Evening my friends... hello, hello, hello...
well while it is getting close to saying good night I had a thought I wanted to share:)

I hope I don't have to wait to much longer on this dock for my boat to come in, as the water is rotting the dock away~~ hint hint CAPT' RICHARD ROE :)

Cathy in Carolina: did you receive the pictures?
I can't wait to see them, I do not have a clue what they look like I am just as anxious as you are..
Where are you tonight? how was your weekend on the boathouse?

Desertfox: glad you are back..

Paula: you are always so thoughtful
and up beat just like Brenda, Sunny and Foresthills.

Ladybase Camp: hey whts ya doin? huh? are you out there floatin" in that there new toy you got? just having a blast I will bet....
I am missin your story..

Okay Ladies, I know I am leaving someone'''s out, but believe me you are all thought about all the time...

I really do go into blog withdrawl and people around me ask all the time what??? blog ??? huh???
but you know this is just gonna have to continue.. even after this adventure is all said and done..

sooo RICHARD.. you have started a new kind of (illness), and made new friends, some of us will be on the nnbbsh site or here, cause I am hooked!!! this is dangerous!!!!
OH NO someone is gonna have to find a cure!!!

In the mean time I will have to find a way to get me a lap top so I can continue to wait on a rotting dock for CAPT' RICHARD ROE to return with my boat. (my ship sailed along time ago):)lol because, I am moving to California now I have to find a dock that is on the Ocean... and dang it that means the odds of my little boat finding me just got bigger than they were when I was on the lake:)... lol Okay well I will attempt to check in again later..

until then...

I wonder if Perfect Match uses real couples from their program for their ads. In any case if they want to reach our demographic, it looks like they need to re-watch the Movie "HAROLD & MAUDE" and do some photo shoots that mimic that instead of the beat up old dudes (6 times older than RR!)with the younger, heathier, women. I look at those ads and think-- "what grave yard would they rob to dig one up for me?" JUST JOKING. .once again. I think Perfect Match is a wonderful sponsor and we should all go on there and brighten up their cyber pages in response to their support of this wonderful event.

Wow! I have 3 blogs to catch up on!

Hello Cheryl!!! You were missed...I'm going to check your pictures right after I post this note...Welcome back!

MerryMary
Of course I want you to still give Richard a big hug for me! Eriks has offered to do the same...I'm sure Rihcard won't mind getting lots of hugs from all of the beautiful ladies. I have a great idea: Why don't all of you who read this give Richard a big hug for me!
Richard Just remember they are all from me okay???

Suzan
Welcome back, I missed ya! I can't wait to see your pics from Cozumel...

Lady Base Camp
Your writings are so eloquent...thanks for sharing your thoughts with all of us, I see that you have many admirers. I was very glad to meet you in MB. By the way, did you get the picture I sent to you?

I went to see the King Tut Exhibit at the LA County Museum of Art yesterday. It was magical! There are some really great web pages on this subject for those who may be interested.
www.kingtut.org
www.nationalgeographic.com/tut
www.lacma.org
to name a few...
The LACMA is located right next to the La Brea Tar Pits. I remember going there on field trips often as a child and not really appreciating what I was seeing...Like, "doesn't everyone have tar pits in their city?"
I realize now that I was very lucky to have grown up in a big metropolitan area with so many wonderous museums to visit.
I want to take my grandaughters to these museums one day soon and we'll stay at the beautiful Ayres hotel in MB for a few nights.

It's getting late so I'll say goodnight and sweet dreams...

Hello Ladies,

I can sense the excitement building! One or two more "sleeps" to go. We'll be around the hotel on Thursday getting things set up so keep an eye out for us. We're the guys in the shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops!!

My neice, Xani (short for Alexandria) is in the Sturgis Improv Group. When I called her a few weeks ago and said we were coming to Chicago she talked to her group and they all agreed to perform for us. I am going to be very interested to see what they have been cooking up and I take no responsibility for the content-LOL! Xani spent a summer with us about five years ago interning for Columbia Television and my kids (and the kids on the block) still remember it well. Then she went on to finish a degree at Tufts in theater arts. She is like a self-contained Texas tornado!

As we did in Manhattan Beach, we are going to have drawings at the dinners for great door prizes provided by the supporters of the Senior Bachelor. A list of them is located at the bottom of the "Meet the SB" page. A new one is "Bond 9" perfume. A representative will be providing samples and they are donating several full bottles for the door prizes.

There is a new article posted on the "In the Media" page. Sorry I didn't tell you sooner- our webmaster needed some time to figure out how to post it as it is set up differently (in four parts). It was rather dramatic in print as the lovely photo of the Manhattan Beach Ladies on the staircase with Richard was on the cover of the paper. Now you are all famous!

Be sure to get your RSVP into "La Cantina" by tomorrow (Wednesday)for the early arrival dinner on Thursday as they need the final count. Details are now posted on the "Meet the SB" page on the website.

We still don't have plans finalized for dinner for Saturday evening. Stay tuned- remember, this is an Adventure!

I apologize that Richard and I have not been too interactive on the blog lately. You know what he is doing and he also has to write the Newsletter we'll send out later today. And, like all of you are probably doing, I'm trying to get things done so I can be gone for four days (and figuring out my Crazy Hat!!) So one big "welcome" to all the new bloggers and a big hug to all the "regulars".

See you soon!

-joe

Too funny - I think you and Richard and the posse will not be too hard to recognize.
I have a real life blonde joke today..shows I can laugh at myself, and that I am a true blonde somewhere under the highlights and touchups.

I got into the shower this morning and had already packed my face cleanser, so instead of getting out of the shower to fetch it - I decided to use shampoo to wash my face. Well let me tell you there is a reason they are different. I forget to take a breath before putting my face under the shower to rinse, so I inhalled, then bubbles were coming from my nose..seriously! I laughed at myself so hard and said, what the heck, this is too funny not to share. Has that ever happend to anyone..nah..probably not... I am still on the naughty mat..
Have a fabulous day!

Paula -

At least your fiasco didn't have lasting results! I walked up some of the steps of the pull-down ladder to my attic to get a suitcase which was near the top of the stairs. I pulled it down toward me, and with it came a heavy, sharp tool which had apparently been under it, and hit me in the forehead! So I have a one inch gash on my forehead, surrounded by swelling, and the black and blue has moved down around my eye!!!! All this, as I'm gearing up for the big trip to Chicago!
It's Murphy's law....now what ELSE can go wrong?!?!

La Belle: WOW~!! What great pictures of your trip(s)! I loved all of the pictures! Your latest western kayak looked like so much fun! The Prince Edward Island (where you live?) brought back flashbacks from one of my favorite PBS series - Anne of Green Gables. The costumes, the characters, the writing....! Also your Asian adventures ... I would still like to know the name of the fruit in picture #11...I forgot to write it down in my diary when I visited Vietnam this summer. ARGH! Great picture of the female gardener at Koh Samui. The Asian ladies are strong rocks of society and in Vietnam, the ladies raise to high levels in government and industry. No glass ceilings to crack! Anyways, thanks for taking the time to post the pictures and the identifications. Swell job.

Sounds like a FUN time in Chicago. I wish I could go.... Sadness....

Have a WONDERFUL AND SAFE TIME!

lots of Orcas and Seals and Otters?

I'm off to the Sahara in a month to ride

Oh Paula--you may have started a whole blog of true confessions from the blondes! Here goes my true confession...
When this SB adventure took shape and I decided (at the last minute) to send in a videotape, the first thing to do was remember how to work the video camera that hadn't been used in a couple years. There was a tape in it, so of course I had to hook it up to the TV and watch the tape--patted myself on the back for accomplishing that. Then, I wanted to make sure it would record. When I pushed the record button, the wheels were turning but I couldn't see anything through the viewfinder. Lens cap, you think? NO-of course I knew better than that!! The next logical step was to replay the tape and see if the audio was working. Well...guess what was on the tape...my EYEBALL!!!...evidently video cameras are not reversible.

Like you Paula, I sat and giggled at my own stupidity. Thank goodness we can laugh at ourselves!

So, Richard, Joe and ladies... you want me to bring that video to share????

BikingNut said...

Paula - that is a great blond story - and Nancy - way to go - now we do not have to look at your name tag to figure out who you are - just look for the black eye.
On the improv night I will be the one holding my side as I hurt my ribs or rather the tissue between my ribs. I fell while I was walking my dog on a narrow trail or actually she ran into me and caught me off guard and down I went on a rock. Glad nobody was watching. Now that I am off the pain pills I can think straight. I can ride my bike through Missouri without a mishap but cannot walk on a trail without falling. (Sorry if anyone is from Missouri - bikers are not very popular in the rural parts of the state.)
My hat is done and ready to go - this has been dress up week for me - went to a Polynesian theme birthday party last week end. I will be bringing my glue gun for touch ups on my hat - hope it makes it through security.
Been watching the weather - looks like semi warm days and cool nights with a possibility of rain -probably normal for this time of year in the mid west.
I have not been a regular blogger but I feel that I already know many of you because I am a frequent reader and will miss meeting the bloggers not going to Chicago. Maybe on a cruise.
I am off to buy an umbrella and take my dog for a walk on flat ground - I am getting really excited - every time I look at my hat I get the giggles -
Melanie

Hi Ladies,

Just spoke with our web guy and I think we will just continue to use this blog for your "special messages" to Richard. If it is all right, could we just wait until after Chicago to post them (he won't have time to read them until then anyway)? That would save us the time and potential confusion of having a separate blog for such messages.

Also, we are making preparations to post photos of the "Crazy Hats" from the party in Chicago on Saturday night and from those of you who send in photos from home. Again, may I ask that you not send me electronic photos until after Chicago and I will do my best to post them soon after I get back from Chicago. Be sure to think of a short caption for your photo.

However, if you want to send Crazy Hat photos that are printed, I will scan them and post them to the Senior Bachelor website. Go ahead and start sending printed photos now if you like and be sure to include a short caption. Send them to the same address as you did the materials:

Senior Bachelor- Crazy Hat
2905A Sepulveda Blvd #405
Manhattan Beach, CA 90266

If you want the photo back, be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope and I'll do my best to get it back to you. The same release applies (By submitting your tapes or materials, you agree that they may be used in any manner or media worldwide as determined solely by me, including, but not limited to, a future episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show and its promotion.)

Thanks, everyone. And, yes, bring any glue guns or extra doo-dads for decorating you may have and can easily bring. We'll set up a decorating table in the State Ballroom for Ladies to do any finishing touches to their Crazy Hats!

Dearest Ladies! I have the need to explain as to why I was not able to join you in MB (my home town) and now in CHI (since I'm living in MO). I've been pretty quiet on the blog as of late and so I have a need to share. I moved here to assist with my father who is gracefully moving into the twilight of Alzheimer's. Since August 2004 he has had to move out of the Lake house he built and had lived in for 20+. years. His "gremlins" come more frequently and he recently wandered away. Thankfully he made his way into a dentist office and asked for help. My mission here is almost complete, but I still have some work to do.

Therefore, you WONDERFUL ladies - I so enjoyed your journey in MB and I look forward to hearing about CHI. Everybody play nice and hopefully nobody goes to the naughty chair :)

Richard - I hope you find exactly what you are looking for. You have a wonderful foundation to build upon (great family & friends).

I appreciate each and every one of you. This blog means more to me than you could ever imagine.

Connie – Great report. Glad it was a positive experience for you. My relatives came in from L.A. with their 15 mo. old & all did the march. They came to my house, covered in stickers with slogans & said it was awesome. Thanks for “voting” for me in D.C. & the 2nd Wind one too.

Thanks also to Merry Mary, Forest Hills for voting. You both get more than E- for effort. One for helping the other & one for taking initiative to send an e-mail. Didn't even realize you could do that Pass it on to as many people as you can. This is one time when it’s o.k. “to vote early & vote often.”

Ada has asked me to post this note for her as she has forgotten her password...sorry Ada for not posting until now as I just returned home from work...

BTW are political jokes allowed on here? If so, which ones?

Since I first started writing this, thanks too for the vote to SOFT RAIN.

Hello!
I'm back from Washington state for my 30 year high school class reunion. Had a fabulous time! Went on a 4 mile hike on Saturday and saw Big Horn Sheep in the distance. For our reunion we had a group shot done of appx 100 classmates that showed up. The dinner was delicioso! We spent the evening just chatting with one another and looking at photos old and new. It was just a lovely time.

Sunday morning I sang at my girlfriend's country church. At the beginning of the service I sang "Morning Has Broken", in the middle of the service I sang a cappella "Blessed Assurance", and at the end I sang "It is Well with my Soul". My girlfriend's family has gone through and some still suffering with cancer and other ailments. With all that is happening in the South and in the world as a whole I thought those hymns would be appropriate to sing.

Well I finally have a blogger account so now I can post here again. I don't blame the Webmaster for cutting out the Anons. If anyone has a beef with Richard, let them share it with Richard alone. I think it's cowardly to diss someone to everybody else and not the one they have a problem with. Instead of 'dissing' someone I'd rather be 'kissing' someone....:)

Continue to spread the love, and all the excitement of the Event in Chicago!!!!

Lots of love to you all,
Lois

Thanks, Ladies, for your expressions of sympathy. I just got back from my yoga class, where I got lots of advice (ice, concealer,etc.). They also said I was LUCKY! Lucky?!?! Because, they said, the thing could have hit me in the eye instead of on the forehead... So I guess I'm trying to look on the bright side (instead of Why Me?! Why NOW?!)
And if I need another suitcase from my attic, I'll be VERY careful.... :-)

You Ladies are a hoot!

I can see the party is starting already!! I enjoy the packing process and setting things out for the trip. Heightens the excitement!

May I ask some help from all who are coming to Chicago? It is late notice but we just realized that there will be no decorative center pieces for the tables at the "Crazy Hat" Party on Saturday and the hotel wants to charge an arm and a leg for some hokey center pieces. If you can, could you try to bring somethings to decorate the tables? Nothing too fancy- just something to throw together. Ribbons, bows, candles, confetti, stuffed Peacocks, etc. Maybe something that represents your home state. There are a lot of us coming to the party so it doesn't have to be a lot of stuff. I just plain ran out of time to get something arranged.

We can have a lot of fun with it! I think there are going to be about 10-12 round tables for Saturday night.

Thanks so much. Finalizing one more little surprise for all of you!

Angel Poems

A Guardian Angel

Flew down from above,
To teach me a lesson
About the powers of love.
She whispers to me,
Take a hold of my hand,
There are so many things
I wish you to understand.
About the powers of love,
And all it can do,
To someone who needs
To share it with you.
A pat on the back,
A kind smile on your face,
Can make someone's life,
A much brighter place.
It doesn't take much,
To show someone you care,
To give them the love,
God gave you to share.
So please keep in mind,
All the powers you possess,
To grace someone's life,
When they're in distress.
You've been put on this earth
To bestow the powers of love,
And with those final words,
She disappeared up above.

I'm so sorry about the recent loss of your dear mother. I'm glad that you liked the angel poem I posted for Easyreader
Now I have one for you which filled my heart with peace when I lost my father in 1995

GOD'S GARDEN

God looked around His garden
And He found an empty place.
And then He looked down
upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain,
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered "Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you.
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

Nancy in Ohio - I hope your forehead is okay and the brusing isn't to bad. Better keep the tylenol handy!!

Merry Mary, I think it is great that you are bringing supplies left from your reunion, we can all relate to the theme's of the 50's and 60's!! If you need help blowing up all those balloons and helping with the decorating, please let me know. Thanks.

Richard, Joe and Umberto...Are you all packed yet and ready to go???
I imagine your traveling day will be tomorrow!!! We will all think of you. Good Luck to you Richard during your interview on Thursday morning!! I sure hope someone tapes it, so those of us traveling to Chicago at that time will be able to see the interview!!!

"Merry Mary"- how about one of those hugs for me! Great comeback to a former Anon's comment. That's the spirit!

Listen, folks, Richard and I are guys. We don't think about center pieces and then when the hotel brings them up and the cost is ridiculous, we tell them to pound sand. Paula, your bunnies out of napkins reminds me of a cruise we took. Every night we came back to the cabin the attendant had arranged the towels and pillows in different shapes and patterns. We hated to break it apart. It was a hoot! Now let's see who can come up with great centerpiece ideas on a whim. It's all part of the Adventure!

Check for the Newsletter first thing in the morning. And then, off to Chicago!! Looks like we are really going to luck out with the weather.

Good night, Ladies.

Hi Joe,

As you'll see by the time of this post, it's too late to be coherent or think about centerpieces. Maybe something will come to my mind tomorrow. Quick question: I've made reservations for Thursday's dinner and the cruise, but Mina didn't take my credit card number and Rob took my card, but gave no confirmation number. Should I be checking back with them or is this the agreed upon procedure?

You're doing a great job with all of this, so don't worry about forgetting centerpieces. Looking forward to meeting you!
