CHICAGO- Dinner for Thursday, September 29 for EARLY ARRIVALS!
Joe Here:
Be sure you book this one early as you do not want to miss it! On Thursday, September 29th for dinner we are going to go to a fabulous place that has no less than three restaurants. We will dine at "La Cantina" which is part of the The Italian Village Restaurants a mere block and half from the Palmer House Hotel. We got a special Senior Bachelor rate of $25.00 which includes gratuity and taxes. There will be a cash bar and it looks like we will have the lower level all to ourselves (so I expect you all to be loud and unruly.)
We dine at 7:30 PM so we'll assemble in the Palmer House Hilton lobby at around 7:15 PM for the short trek there. Dress should be dressy casual. You know Richard, Umberto and I will have our somewhat dressy, beach-casual threads on!
They are creating a special "Senior Bachelor Buffet" dinner to include:
- Salad with their special Italian Dressing
- Rigatoni with Meat Sauce
- Mostaccioli served with fresh tomato-basil sauce
- Meat Balls with meat sauce
- Sauteed Home-made Italian Sausage sauteed in virgin olive oil
with freshly cut green peppers
- Chicken al Limone served in a white wine sauce
- Dessert
- Choice of Coffee or Tea (hot or iced)
- No host, cash bar.
Special RSVP Instructions: Please call 312-332-7005 and ask to talk to "Mina" or "Gina" (that's no joke!) They are the only ones with whom you can leave your RSVP request. Tell them you want to RSVP for the Senior Bachelor dinner. This is very important so they can get an accurate dinner count. They will not take your credit card at this time. The restaurant is limited to 120 diners so, please, make your reservations early. As we have mentioned before, Chicago is a very busy place this time of year and Mina has been very gracious to set things up this way so, please follow these RSVP instructions to ensure a place at dinner. Reservations will be cut off on Wednesday, September 28th. The hotel early bookings at the Palmer House indicate that many of you are coming in on Thursday and we do not know how many local Ladies will join us so please call soon. If you go to voice mail, clearly state your name and phone number so Mina can mark you down.

Buono apetito! (or however you say it in Italian)
Best regards,

OK...One last look at my crazy hat, then I'll change my picture :)
You beat me again.....Your hat is cute ,cute ,cute Ms. Linda...MM
Thanks Joe
I called and I am on for dinner so - the party is on! I don't thnk it is going to be quite as intimate however as the first arrivals in MB...darnit! : )
RR how will you ever decide with so many fabulous women in such a short time to get to know them?
So many women, so little time...hmmm. I wish I had that problem - well, the opposite of course. But wait - no I don't!
Linda I can't wait to see the next hat!
RR, I bid you adieu for the evening..
Biking Nut, MerryMary, Anonymous Lady Jayne, Prairie Critter, Heiresschild, Sunni, & Dreamweaver!
Thank you for asking about & for remembering my Grandmother, Madge Blake (Aunt Harriet on Batman, etc, etc, etc)... :)
What a stange (but FABULOUS) feeling to be connected to you all through HER in this unique way!!!
Yes, Heiresschild, she also played Larry Mondello's mother in Leave It To Beaver, Walter Brennan's girlfriend, Flora MacMichael in The Real McCoys, Joey Bishop's mother on the "Joey Bishop Show," and countless other roles in the sitcoms of that era...
She created the character of "President of the Jack Benny Fan Club" when he played Tahoe (Harrah's)and the nightclubs in Las Vegas.
It was a "trip" for me when I found myself ice skating in the same venues she had performed in so many years before (I was also glad I'd eaten all that RUBBER :)
I have some great, wild,& funny stories about her adventures in showbiz.
One, after years of hanging about the fringes of the acting profession, she almost lost her first screen role because she didn't look her age. She was assigned to play Spencer Tracy's mother in Adam's Rib, and when she turned up on the set, Tracy took one look at her and said, "This is ridiculous. You can't play my mother. We must be about the same age."
Desperately my Grandmother told him, "A woman with as much money as I'm supposed to have in this part would spend most of her time at the beauty shop. And besides, on the screen I really look like a hag."
Tracy was amused, and my Grandmother kept the part---probably the only time in history an actress got a job by tearing herself down.
She was a funny, sweet, charming, lovable "lady" (Grandmother, too!). I have several articles written about her life & work, one noting that she "attracted warmth and affection throughout the highly emotional entertainment industry."
A book is being written about my Grandmother and 8 other character actresses of the 50s & 60s (including Verna Felton, Reta Shaw, Marion Lorne, Bea Benaderet, Ruth McDevitt, Eleanor Audley, Jesslyn Fax, & Alice Pearce).
My brothers, sister, & I have been contacted by the author to provide a personal account of her life & personality at home and "off screen."
A quick trip to www.imdb.com will jog your sitcom & movie memories!!!
Thank you all for remembering what a wonderful character and "LADY" she TRULY was...
Much Love to ALL...
Skywatcher-"ella"
Hey Joe!!
I am so wishing to be there everyday for all the fun! fun! fun! But a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do and for me that's flying high in the sky!! Let me know about Saturday's dinner so I can call and make reservations please!
Hey are we going to meet Stuart??
Any chance of meeting Richard's sisters??
Tell Nancy I'll be looking for wiggly bed partners!
Make it a greeaatt day! Michelle
Richard and Joe,
I can smell the aroma now of all that wonderful Italian food. I have an Italian friend. She is going to be sooo jealous that I am getting real Italian food. To get that around here, she has to make it. I just love all the surprises you are "cooking" up for us. I just can't imagine how exciting it would be to travel with you. I am getting goose bumps just thinking about it. I hope I get the chance. Count me in for LaCantina. I have already made my reservation. Have a wonderful evening and a restful sleep. Always...
Pam in Missouri
Bonjourno ROEMANtic ROEmeooow, jOE and 'rangers'
SKYWATCHER 'ELLA': you certainly have led an interesting Life, WOW...thank you for sharing!!!! I LOVE movies...it is more than just an escape from 'reality' and everyday life, that is why I choose to watch movies that make me feel good rather than sad and scared. I dislike horror....as it upsets me on a very deep level and I end up looking under my bed and behind doors :) Love movies of essence, especially romantic movies , fact and fiction, Greek Mythology, anything to do with the history of people who inhabited various parts of the ancient world....Lemuria...Atlantis has me totally intrigued!!!!!!!!!! I feel I had an incarnation during the time of Atlantis:) which was absolutely amazing!
MERRYMARY: How exciting that you finally received POP&ME. My Son is here for dinner tonight and we plan to watch it again as we laughed, cried and experienced it with Richard and Chris, it 'pulls you in' Looking forward to hearing your view on it too! :)
LINDAINTUCSON: You kinda make me look forward to being a bride again one day, enjoying the 'girlie stuff' goin' on here ;)
By the way Mae West was quite a gal in her day and way ahead of her time for sure!
Okay, my Son just walked in, ciao for now...to be continued.....
Senior Bachelorette:)
Vj
p.s. Coyote is one of my Totem Animals...owwwwwwwwww
Vj you've made several sweet funny comments about my "veil"...thanks for indulging me, I thought it was pretty funny.
I'm a big Netflix fan, and did get Pop&Me from there a few weeks ago. I recommend getting 3 at a time, the minute you put one in the mail they send out another and I always have movies on hand. Beats running to Blockbuster all the time.
Only thing better would be to have a snuggly parter to enjoy them with!
Hey Joe, how did you know that-Wild and Unruly, was my middle name!!!
Yvonne from Hawaii..............I tried responding to your e-mail but it returned it to me. I hit the address you had there so it can't be I typed incorrectly.
Please try again.
Joe..............looks like Umberto will be able to feel like he's at home for an evening! Knowing Italian mother's she's probably worried if he's eating enough!:D
CHI-TOWN GIRL
I HAVE POWER!!!! I'm talking about electricity. YEA!!Late afternoon and evening have yeilded some pretty heavy duty thunderstorms with some incredible electrical light shows. I was sitting on my front porch, thought the house got hit because I smelled smoke. I put on my slicker and walked around the house. Turns out it was a tall cherry tree about 10 feet off the front corner. There is another massive red zone moving thru again. Guest I better get off the electrical equipment. Good night one and all. Sweet Italian dreams.
I'm a movie buff and I just saw Unfinished Life with RRedford,JLO,Freeman and it was wonderful. If you like old fashion movies with a story. Try it you'll like it.
Nancy
Just Linda where are you hiding?
Hi Ella, Skywatcher, So glad to hear from you again. I have been wondering on and off all day who this male actor that would have been from your Grandmother's era would be. I pictured him in my mind but just could not remember his name. Then I came back on the blog and there he was, Walter Brennan. I was just a little girl when I saw him in the movies so many times and I am certain that I will remember your Grandmother as soon as I get a chance to research her. However, I already know that I would have loved seeing her along with Walter Brennan. I was always so impressed by this man. This blog has accomplished so much more than romance and travel. It has conjured up so many memories, at least in myself. And, to hear from YOU about yourself and your grandmother and too suddenly have Walter Brennan's name before me again is VERY SPECIAL!! Have a great evening, Ella, ANONYMOUS Lady Jayne

Did anyone else see?-- Oprah is donating $10 million of her own money to Katrina victims for houses to be built and furnished. We can help by buying furnishings for the houses through her Angel Network -- things like toaster, linens, sofas. She is so fabulous!!
Also -- anyone going to Washington this weekend for the peace rally?
To keep the record straight: I never said I would be coming back after each one month leg of the trip. In fact, I will stay and and be joined by each lady. And Oprah never promised to name the "selectee." RR P.S. Ladies, There was a mad dash right before the MB event started, and I would encourage you to make your reservations asap. Especially for Thursday evening at the restaurant as there are only 120 places. Ciao, RR
V.J. Re;Pop and Me....Incredible...I had to wash the make up(masscara) out from under my eyes after watching it,,,It's Estee Lauder, Not supposed to do that..but my feelings were funny, sad(especially when Richard was at his dad's grave), a wee bit angery at Chris "cause I sensed some jealousy of Bro. Rich and Gabby...but then when Big Bro. Rich tells him he was 3rd choice what would you expect. I was on pins and needles when they jumped....I was saying no ,don't do it. I saw a look of relief on Richard's face when he was safely in the boat....I senced the proudness of every father and son and the pride and love for each other. While the one son was playing Moonlight Sonata his Dad looked as if he worshipped his son...then the one in Africa when his son ask him if his brain would not be damaged anymore when he got to heaven touched me...his special son. They were all special and Richard has 3 handsome cuties. If anyone of them is single I have 1 grand daughter left that is single...21 years old. I've got to watch it again so I can feel like I know Richard better. I felt sorry for him when he said he didn't have anything to really compel him to come back to. The pictures of his wife when the kids were small was very cute. Anyways it was quite enjoyable and some of the things Chris said remind me of my daughter and me. I'm always embarresing her because I talk to everybody and tell so much. If you tell me something you don't want told be sure to tell me NOT to tell it.
Goodnight Mr. Richard Roeoster and all his chicks....He will be crowing at 5;30 am or maybe jumping up and down on the bed....that looked fun...but 5 cops to quiet them down....been there, done that(Bill and me...not Pop and Me) My dad joined AAs when I was 12. I better hush up and get ready for bed. Nighty Night...P.S. Have you all read the book that says I'll Love you for always...I'll Love you forever...as long as I'm living, Your Moma I'll be....That's the feeling I get from the movie Pop and me. Tuttles MM
Peachie, I saw Oprah today!! Was so delighted with her $10 Million. She gave more than T. Boone Pickens, who gave $6 Million. She is a true ANGEL OF GOODNESS. Please let me know what Peace Rally is going on in D.C. this weekend. Thanks, ANONYMOUS, Lady Jayne
Sherry here.
I'm looking for a ride from O'Hare, 29 Sept @ 12:48 to Palmer House.
And a roommate for 29/30Sept and 1Oct
Sherry 703-966-5733
Richard: I realize that you have addressed this several times: I'm just 'triple' checking.... us NOT attending either the MH or Chicago event, will NOT adversely affect us getting selected to as a possible traveling buddy....correct? and last but not least: when the mail dust settles, would you let us know how many women 'applied' for the position? thanks....
I was able to purchase 'Pop and Me' on Ebay...for a really decent price.
Merrymary, I agree with you about the movie "Pop and Me". I also laughed at many of the scenes and I cried, especially when Richard was at his father's grave site. The jump, oh my gosh, I held my breath and then screamed!!! My heart was beating in my throat!!
I have called and made my reservation for Thursday night, the Italian food sounds great.
Richard and Joe, you two are really making this a special weekend, thanks for all your hard work. Everytime I get on line, there is usually something else added. E X C I T E M E N T!!!

I loved seeing you surrounded by all those video submissions and file folders. What's the final count?
Too many magnificent women, too little time :)
LadyJayne -- go to unitedforpeace.org for info about the Peace Rally this weekend in Washington DC.
Sylvia -- we sisters have been praying each other through many hard times in the short time we have been together....you reached out and we'll be there for you, too....
I appreciate all of the comments about Pop&Me. A little factoid. The film was sold to MGM and they transferred it from video to 35mm and added Dolby stereo sound, and put it in theaters in around 20 cities. MGM put it in DVD as well as VHS, something we never could have afforded to do. Now the film is on 5 continents in 3 languages. We were able to buy back the worldwide televison rights, so in one of the upcoming years, hopefully on a Father's Day, it will have its televison premiere.
No, no adverse affects not coming to MB or Chi, and yes, I will give all of the figures sometime after Chicago. Ciao, RR
Much fun here today (I am so easily amused, ha)
I'm up as early as you Richard, so time so say my g'nite....
and sweet dreams!
xoxo
Good evening Ladies,
Thanks for all your great comments and enthusiasm for the upcoming Event in Chicago. And welcome to the new bloggers- the more the merrier. Thanks for sharing.
More surprises to come!! Don't make any plans for after dinner on Thursday because Richard and I are cooking up something special for you all that you won't want to miss.
Off to bed for me. More tomorrow!

Re: my suggestion about the ferris wheel
Dear Me! Apparently my inner devil-child got loose when I wasn’t looking! It must have been the Crazy Hat thing that pushed her over the edge. ‘Guess we’ll both have to go to the naughty mat!
All the same, I think I’ll leave the invitation open and Richard can decide whether to accept or decline.
Carol
P.S. Regarding what to wear, I'd say in Chicago pretty much anything goes these days. Saturday night theatergoers wear a range, from dressy jeans to casual slacks to dressy dresses. Formal is pretty rare, except at weddings. What you wear on the Odyssey is really dependent on the group you are with. So I’d say wear what you’re comfortable in (unless Richard decrees this is “black tie”!) and plan for the possibility of 20-35 degree fluctuations in the temperature. Today it was around 80 and humid (a little rain in the a.m.) But at this time of year, it can easily be 50-70. And at the lake (especially at night) it will feel much cooler, so make sure you have a wrap.
Looking forward to meeting all of you!
wow! I got home a while ago ..I hope I didn't get left out on Thurs. night:-) I'd better call in the morning and make my reservation.
Sounds like we will be having a blast in Chicago.
Since Linda stole my hat idea, I'll have to think of a new one. Just teasin! It's cute.
Sylvia -- Yes please know that our prayers are with you and your family.
Dearest Sylvia,
I will add extra prayers for you and your family.
PS on attire: bring a jacket or wrap, at least for the boat, in case the wind comes up and it gets cool. That way you won't be stuck to just the inside activities.
3 of my family have returned safely from their week of collective volenteer work (2 veterinarians and 1 paramed) in New Orleans. I am so prowd of them. None of us have 10 million dollars, but we have made a difference, one person at a time. That is just as important as the caregivers for Sylvia's family.
I call it "Paying Ahead".
Someting to pass along from my trip: the waitress opened up a bottle of Hot Tabasco liquid on our outdoor dining table when the flies started to gather. The flies really left. I'm going to try it on my patio.
Enjoy
Prays again for Sylvia, who reminded me one more time that we may not get where we are going, so we had better enjoy where we are.
Mary Rose
Heiresschild You are in my thoughts and I will say a long prayer for your family. I just sent you an email.
Mary R I've missed your beautiful smile on the blogs. Tabasco sauce that's a bit of trivia I think I can use. LOL
Aloha Ladies,
Mahalo! Joe (Thank you) for getting the dinner for the first arrivals in MB. I got to speak to Mina today, and I could heard the great Italian music in the background. WOW! She was so,so nice and said "Aloha" to me in her great Italian accent.
Mahalo, Yvonne
heiresschild,
You and your loved ones will be in my prayers as well.
I wanted to share this. you have probably seen it already. I like to read it occasionally
Tis the human touch in this world that counts.
The touch of your hand and mine, which means far more to the fainting heart than shelter and bread and wine:
For shelter is gone when the night is o"er
And bread lasts onlly a day,
But the touch of the hand and sound of the voice Sing on in the soul always
Sylvia,
My prayers are with your daughter and your brother also. Could you please give us their first names?
Prayer can work miracles, and prayer in numbers is so much more powerful...God Bless you and your family
honestgal I'm going to
see 'Thumbsucker' Tuesday
night at our local film fest...I
don't think it's been released,
at least not in Portland...we're at
least two weeks behind NYC and LA.
So I'll let you know what I think!!!!!
RRandJOE You two are the best
dates...love the choices...Italian menu...
Umberto will feel right at home...hat contests
...surprises....can't wait!!!
Sunni
Hi everyone! esp. Linda, Nancy, Lin, Francesca, Michelle, Mary R, Sylvia, Joe, and RICHARD! Wow! I feel like I've been out of the loop now that I'm back at work. Just got in after a full day's work including Recess supervision and an evening meeting so you can see teaching is an 8 am to 9:30 pm job some days.
All you ladies going to Chicago sound as excited as we MBers must have sounded a few weeks ago. And, I have to say Joe and Richard have planned some pretty great things for all of you. Am I jealous? a bit :(
But, you all have fun with the whole adventure. And be sure to share the experience with the rest of us.
Canadian Bloggette aka Cheryl and I got together this past weekend and had a great dinner, lots of laughs, and shared a lot with each other about our daughters (she has 3, and I have 2). She'll be posting photos of our "escapades" when she gets home to Montreal in about a week, so keep an eye out.
Off to bed now. Sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite. Nite all.
my daughter's name is Karrene (pronounced Care-reen), and my brother's name is Kevin. thanks all. much appreciated.
sylvia
Thank you Sylvia,
Good night and God Bless...
Dear Sylvia,
I add my thoughts and prayers for you and your family. Keep strong!
Carol
Thanks, Yvonne for your comment about Mina and the restaurant. Mina has been a dream to work with and she is excited about meeting all of you.
You can probably call until late in the evening to talk to Mina as she seems to work restaurant hours- not just 9 to 5. And remember if Mina is not there, ask for Gina. (Now, if they have a sister Tina, I'm going to plotz!)
Leslie, talk about jealous-- how about your dinner with the "Canadian Blogette". One of the original Senior Bachelor bloggers. You both seem like one of those instant family members- comfortable, fun and attached at the soul.

Howdy again Prof.Roe, Joe and posse!
MERRYMARY: Watching POP&ME again tonight was very interesting! I kept looking at my Son's facial expressions during the movie, very cute reaction! We both screamed out loud with the bungy jump, phew that was something. Richard you and Chris are brave warriors, there is absolutely no way that I would even think about it, let alone do it! I have a fear of heights so much so that standing on a diving board 2 inches above the water would make me cringe! I prefer my feet safely on 'Terra Firma' thank you ;) I love pillow fights and watching 'the two' jumping like 'banshees' on the bed was one of the highlights of the film for me, the playfulness is quite magical to watch! I am trying so hard pertaining to 'brevity' but alas there is too much to share ;)difficult to keep my dialogue short and to the point ;) the 'wit' and 'thought provoking', hope I get good grades for that Prof. Roe;)
HEIRESSCHILD: Will hold you, your daughter and son in my prayers, that everything will be ok! Wrap yourself, your daughter and son in a coccoon of White Light, it is a very powerful healing visualization
Thinking of the song the whole day
'I Love Those Dear Hearts And Gentle People, Who Live And Love In My Home Town' My Blessed Mother used to sing all the songs from the 30's to the 50's...I too enjoy being nostalgic!
Ok Dear Hearts and Gentle People, time to get into that 'Lullabye In Birdland' mode :)
Hugs and Kisses

Senior Bachelorette:)
p.s there is a lot of depth to Richard...a wellspring of knowledge, shows in his eyes!
Sylvia Karreen and Kevin
are in my prayers.. I'll think of
them tonight wrapped in that
cocoon of white light....
Sunni
Willemina! I forgot to say HI to YOU!!! So sorry! I am brain dead right now. Gotta get some sleep. At least I don't have a class til 1:00 tomorrow, so can sleep in a bit.
Joe You are too kind! Say HI to Richard for me and tell him I'm going for another pedicure very soon. Hmm, think I might go "coral" this time (for Fall).
Ref: Chicago...I'd love to go just for the fun of it all...I was in MB...wouldn't want RR to think that I was desperate to meet him again...I already had my "moment"....it's not fair..you all are going to have so much more fun..I think we in MB set the pace for you and you gals are very, very lucky. It seems to be a better organised event and I'm glad I was a part of it.... So my advise to you all, whether you asked for it or not :):)... embrace every moment, be a good listener, don't throw yourself at Richard, be patient, listen to Joe, read the daily itinerary, smile for Umberto, don't overdress, be gracious to your hosts, behave like a lady, don't forget what you are representing, tip 20%, treat others as if they were your guests,be yourselves, and very important; be punctual for all events.....Have a great time!!!!!! Life is too short...live it to the max.....Sincerely...o.k. it's Dana Point LOIS..this is too good to be another ANON:):):)
There was great comments today.
Sylvia there is a true power in prayer and with this group you are well covered. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Pam and I-my friend missing in action-but we meet again at MB. We are going to Vegas for a few days and play. So that should keep up out of trouble-what or is that in trouble. It has been 28 years and we are so much more mature LOL.
Chicago sounds like a blast and you girls have the advantage of some really good advice. Listen to what is being said by those of us who went to MB-we are giving you the inside scoop.
RR and Joe are great and you will enjoy them both.
Again, Sylvia God will be with you and your family.
Marty
Another beautiful day in paradise today, and special because Debby, Gail (her baby sister) and I met and had fun at the pool and beach.
It is certainly rewarding to meet people from the blog from the mainland with similar travel interests. Thank you Richard and Joe for affording many of us this opportunity through the Senior Bachelor Blog. (Also met Carol in Waikiki last Thursday and another mainland friend from east coast on Kona on Wednesday.)
Tonight we met a couple of people who are going to MB from Maui the end of this week, so we told them about the senior bachelor site and to find Richard Roe and tell him what great people Debby and Neva are and that we would make excellent travel partners. (I think they are actually going there for a reunion of sorts.)
Debby filled me in on the events at MB and perhaps convinced me that I should follow through with the Chicago trip.
Sounds like a fun and busy event to be had in Chicago by all. Mahalo for all the work you are doing and fun that you/we are having in the process.
I will try to make dinner reservations tomorrow (too late tonight) for the 29th.
Related Question: If we make reservations for dinner, (I have reservation for Odyssey also) and have to cancel because of conflicting schedules and/or other reasons, can other bloggers use our reservation/ticket?
I am a huge e-mailer of jokes, articles & tidbits so I am grateful for the material I find here. Sylvia, I sent you an e-mail so I hope you got it. Last time I went thru the blog the e-mail address was wrong. It has worked out & it was good talking to the blogette - we are on the same page. Hi there!
Like the new idea of the movie chats. Ella,- any chance of Grandma's photo? Was hoping that the recipe was going to be here.
My 2nd granddaughter is being named this weekend & I'm having a dinner the night before. Some of the relatives are going to the march in D.C. If anyone is going, let me know. Too tired to check this. Forgive any typos please.
Opera Wench- I live in the Great Green North warmed by the Japan current, furthest north Pacific Northwest Rainforest. It has some of the worst weather in the world but when its clear, it’s spectacular. If Alaska were the shape of an old man’s head, the Aleutians would be his beard, the panhandle his neck , I’m just under the chin, oil spill country. My first house:1972 was on Gerard Street, right off Prospect in La Jolla. I lived in Clairemont 1969-70, Beryl street in Pacific Beach 1971 and Ocean Beach on Voltaire 1973, I know San Diego of 30 years ago well. I love Puccini,I don’t listen to Madama Butterfly too often. It makes me cry.
Francesca! A beautiful, great name! Meryl Streep’s character in Bridges of Madison County . I made the mistake of watching that on my 41st birthday and cried for 6hours. I needed to pull that door handle then and I eventually did. How many of us have had our hands on the door handle ready to open it and jump out into a new life but didn’t do it? I was literally yelling to Streep “OP-EN THE DOOR, GO, GO, NOW! FOR GAWDSAKES, IT'S EASTWOOD!” Ice Skater lady, I am looking for 1st person info on the Follie Dollies for character reference for one of my plays. Skywatcher Ella- Madge Blake, what a great career! The book will be wonderful. So far I have one fully developed character I spent many days scheming nuances for: Mrs. Pibbotty, a very southern older widow who thinks food is sex and hits on younger men in the audience: (“Who’s yer Gumma!”) That character made the play and made me famous in my town but what I intend to do now with dinner theater is more socially conscious but just as entertaining.
Whole nutmeg is so wonderful to grate- I have a whole jar.
MOD317—I want to be an athlete till I die. It is who I am and age should not shut that down, nor should any man, person or environment. That’s a personal crime on myself. I can not tell you how incredible it is to connect with this energy inside me again. I swam 2hours hardly stopping today. The pool is 86 feet and I was one of 8 who painted the mural that encircles it in aerial perspective as if you are swimming in crater lake at 2000’ surround by Prince William Sound. It’s heaven but feels a little too tame after the dynamic and living ocean that is such a part of me.
Health has become so easy now. (except for getting to bed on time! I have to be careful about adrenalin this late unless I get a fire or ambulance call—then I can dump it there) Food can get so bad it becomes an anesthetic to emotional pain and unacceptable situations including boredom and too fat or too thin-ness are the only (mostly previously, because people are waking up now) acceptable forms of suicide. Not that we can’t be sexual and sensuous and joyful when we are fat or too thin but the reality is our heart has an electrical system that could blow anytime and does not need any more stress or misuse.
I haven’t gone la commanda since I was a young hippie wannabe and now full circle, I’m inspired, doing it again and I better be careful because my pants are really loose!!!! Prarie! Sorry about your cherry tree. Hope you can seal it up or salvage the wood if it is dead.
My favorite horror movie is the first one ever, THE CABINIET OF DR. CALIGARI- I love German expressionism. That movie inspired some of my theatre set designing. I love a good horror flick now and then but they are mostly formulaic : slowly stepping onto the staircase: “Richard. .. is that you Richard?” one step up “Richard. . . .” no answer , “Richard, are you up there?” -proceed up stairway. “Richard , THIS IS NOT FUNNY!!!”
My “totem” animal is the spider and I love them. The spider is an architect who makes its living from its own creativity but I killed a brown recluse in my kitchen a few months ago and feel bad about it. I was afraid some little kid might get the sting of death if I took it outside.
Oh no! I’m 221 words over quota! Cyber spank me, please! (me first Linda, lololol)
Hello Everyone!
I'm sitting at my comp in San Diego and hearing something that isn't too common here; Thunder!!!
I LOVE IT!!!! In Montana during the summers there would be thunder and lightening storms, rain and then the ominous rainbow over a mountain. Well now it's raining again, love the sound, love the smell....:) This evening we had a glorious sunset of purples, pinks and oranges. Just had a good thunder boomer just now....woohoo!!! I kind of wish I was at the beach to see all of this but being close to my window and hearing the sound of the rain is just as wonderful.
Richard, I hope you spent your evening snug as a bug in a rug watching all of our videos and reading the bios. I'm still awaiting word when you get to my materials. I know it's raining quite well up in MB too. You and Joe should write a book on event planning. I think it's great that the two of you men along with other gentlemen...another thunder boomer....are planning these awesome events for Chicago. What a treat for all of the Ladies going there....Another thunder boomer!!
Now I can feel the thunder in my house....I'm so excited!!! I've lived in San Diego for almost 9 years and haven't heard thunder like this! Unbelievable!!! And now heavier rain!
Lois in Dana Point: I started reading your comment, and you took the words out of mouth about MB, behaviour, etc. I thought you made some excellent comments! There will be so many more women in Chicago however. I'm glad I came to the MB meeting that was a bit more casual. You must be getting rain in Dana Point too.
Hello Willemina, I'm sorry I haven't said hi to you lately. You are a sweetheart and so supportive of everyone. Sending you a hug..:)
Sylvia, I'm joining along with the Ladies in our prayers for your family. I can't imagine the stress you are going through. Remember Christ's words:"Peace I give you, not the like the world gives. Don't let your heart be troubled or let it be afraid" The peace of God which passes any kind of understanding will get you through this difficult time Sylvia, lots of love going out to you...
"Raindrops keep fallin on my head...I'm never goin to stop the rain by complaining, because I'm free, nothing's worrying me"
Love to you all,
Lois
Hello Richard,
I finished watching "Pop&Me" at 1:00 a.m. and realized I wouldn't be able to sleep until I jotted a message on the blog.
Your relationship with three generations of males in your family parallels in an uncanny manner my relationship with the same three generations of females in mine.
My mother loved me and I was never abused in any way. But she was totally incapable of demonstrating that love. A few months before she died I said to her, "Mama, in my whole life I don't remember ever hearing you say to me 'I love you.'" She sat in her chair for the longest time with awkward silence between us, and finally she said, "I simply can't say the words." One day a few weeks later I answered my phone and my mother was on the line. Without saying a word, she began singing the song "I just called to say I love you". She has been dead 16 years and I still tear up when I think of that call.
I learned to hug from my friends. And I put into the family I created
(I am the mother of two adult daughters) what was missing in the family I grew up in. Multiple hugs and expressions of endearment have always been and still are commonplace with us.
Like you, however, I have learned that transitioning from parenting a child to being the parent of an adult can be tricky. Occasionally I discover a bump in the road that I didn't anticipate.
My daughters and I do have a good, though not 100 % perfect, relationship.
Close to my heart is the loving thought penned to me by my older daughter one Mothers' Day.
She said, "Mom, thank you for being my mommy when I was little, and for being my friend now."
Good morning...Did I beat you up????
Francesca....I love those songs. LMAO Now this one is for real"Thank God and The Greyhound she's Gone..Also, "Flushed Fr
om The Stool of His Heart>" I gotta get dressed...I go do physical therepy for the pinched nerves at 8 A.M. Just the exercises they put me on has done wonders. I'm trying to get in shape. I ask my sister if I went on The Special K diet for 10 days did she think I'd loose 10 pounds. She said she didn't think so ,so you all will meet me about 10 pounds plus alittle give or take over my goal weight. I'm a lifetime member of weight watchers. Have a wonderful Tue. Ya Hear???? Much Love from the Okie from Tulsa,Ok. U.S.A.
Joe and Chicago 'Early Birds' -
I called the restaurant to RSVP last evening at about 8PM or so, and was told that Mina and Gina weren't there. I asked when they'd be back and she said tomorrow (Tuesday) between 9AM and 5PM. (FYI)

Sylvia, I join the others in sending prayers for your family-I too, have just gone throught a heart breaking family experience-my oldest nephew recently died of a sudden heart attack while walking his dog-no health history connected. It has been devastating, and you just have to trust our higher being that he has a plan.
Richard and Joe, somewhere I read, that you would confirm the receipt of our videos and bios-did I imagine that? It would be comforting to know, that somewhere in that stack, mine arrived.
To those of you going to Chicago-have fun, make good use of that short time with Richard, and know that all of us unable to attend are very envious!! Sunshine
Ladies the jokes are hilarious!! I share them with my friends. The chinese laundry was especially mirthful. Waiting to see all the hats. Linda the veil/hat is neat. My daughter just let me smell a sample of Tommy Bahama fragrance for WOMEN, exquisite. Don't forget a subtle yet alluring fragrance sets the mood for romance. Nothing heavy or sweet, light and fresh is best. Hey what am I typing, boink hitttt the hands. Have loads of memorable happy moments, hug RR for me, Joe and Umberto. Group pictures pleeezze, especially on board ship. God bless!

Ada--two friends and I are driving from Georgia to Washington D.C. for the Peace Rally/ March this weekend. Cindy Sheehan will be there.
I once dated a Vietnam vet/Navy Seal with post-traumatic stress syndrome. When psychologicallly-sound people are asked to kill or subjected to scenes of killing they are forever and sadly changed.
Let us never forget how lucky we are to wake to the blessed lives we have.
Best to all, Connie AKA ceesoo AKA dancingirl
Heiresschild,
My prayers are with you and your family. I worked strictly neonatal for many years. 32 weeks is ok. May be small, but generally things turn out just peachy.I would imagine mom has been given betamethasone to help trigger surfactant production in the lungs. When a mother is stressed, itis pretty amazing what the body does to prepare the child for and early delivery. Maternal stress also will trigger the lungs to kick in and produce surfact. The Dilly sextuplets were 32 weeks, and they are just fine. I had the priveledge of being on the babies delivery room resuscitation teams. I had the priveledge of being on the delivery team of a 21 weeker. Not only did this child make it, but she is perfectly normal. This is incerdibly rare at this age though.I know you must be scared silly. God is with you and your daughter. Your brother is also in my prayers.Grace, Peace and Mercy be to you and your family.
Hi Ella, Skywatcher, I just finished researching your Granny. When I saw photos on the net, a big smile came over my face. Now I can say I truly remember her, not from Batman, but from some of the old musicals I saw her in, and many, many more movies. I believe she was one of the "GREATS" of all the character actors, along with "my" Walter Brennan. This nostalgic trip back in time has been so much fun!!
Take Care!! "All the Best", ANONYMOUS, Lady Jayne
Many lovely ladies have e-mailed me saying they had not received an acknowledgement from me about receiving their materials. Umberto and I have been working feverishly to get through the tsunami of mail sent to me these past 2 weeks. By this Friday everyone should have been sent an e-mail of acknowledgement. If you do not have this e-mail by Friday, e-mail me at richard@seniorbachelor.com . Thanks for your patience. RR
To La dolce Vida: Please e-mail me at richard@seniorbachelor.com as I do not have your e-mail address and would like to communicate with you. Thank you. RR
Good Morning everyone!
I just spoke to Mina and made my reservation for Thurs. night.
Glad I didn't get left out :-)
Thanks to Joe, Richard, and everyone doing all the planning..You guys are doing a great job.

Richard, is
factoid" a new word? I can't find it in my Webster's
Encyclopedic Dictionary. Please don't get mad at me. I am not challenging your expertise of the English language, just being silly. I have been stricken with "Bloggitis of the Brain". I am getting off of this blog now (probably for the best) until late this evening. "All the Best", ANONYMOUS, Lady Jayne

There is so much happening here on the Blog and I just get to skim it occassionally.....I missed your question re: Marilyn Monroe
That was affirmative on your statement, my video was filmed in a theme room at my 1960's style motel in Cherokee, North Carolina. We feature different Stars, Elvis, Marilyn, James Dean, I Love Lucy, etc.
I did however call on Marilyn's sexual appeal to enhance my own in attempting to seduce the Senior Bachelor.
Just kidding, I really lost my outdoor video footage (which captured my rugged outdoor nature) while attempting to edit and was forced to shoot at the last minute
late at night on September 15th.
So if you get to "sneak a peek" of my not X-rated video you can see Marilyn's photo in the background. Of course, you will probably be so taken with me appearing there in my zebra striped P.J.'s that Miss Monroe will be insignificant.
But, I am sure there will be a true Monroe look alike in Chicago, We seem to have representation of the entire Human Race. (Reminding RR how clever those female impersonators are.)
Rchard, I did not know that we were supposed to receive an "acknowledgement" re: receipt of our materials!!I sent mine to you on June 12th (without a video). So, I just assumed I would be out of the running. When you have a chance, will you please address the above mentioned (if you are not mad at me over my snippy "factoid" reference. Thanks Much! Now, I am really getting off this blog.
Opera W! Utah is the place for thunder. Strange and incredible things happened to me when I was camped on "THE TRAIL OF THE OLD ONES" (also the name of a book by a friend of mine on the ANASAZI ancient people) The Thunder echos through thousands of miles of Canyon all across the state and it is stunning- Camp high and safe, out of the way of flash flood.I never thought any place could have the power that Alaska does. Utah does. And the men are really good looking there; almost as hot as the California boys!

welcome .... I'm sure you've been
on the blog for a while, but I just
noticed you...silly me...I'm in PDX
too. Are you going to Chicago?
I visited your site, what interesting work
you do... also, where did you get your
scuba certification? I'm thinking of
doing the same. although I do have
inner ear issues.
Good Morning everyone else!!!! It's
still sunny in Oregon...I feel for all of you
in the paths of hurricanes...it looks like
Rita is gathering strength and heading for
the keyes and on to the gulf coast...
makes me glad to live in our benign but
grey climate...not today...Indian summer is
starting here!!!!
Linda where are You? Sleeping
in today?
Hi CathyinCarolina
Welcome aboard..
I moved from Raleigh and have visited your beautiful area in the mountains. Just breathtaking and a great place to have a B&B.
I look forward to meeting you in Chicago.
Sylvia, prayer is a very powerful thing. I pray all will be well with your family soon.
Hello all- hope everyone's day is going great! Cloudy and rainy here with Rita passing by...not to bad where we are here in Palm Beach.
Richard, I would rather be in CA -I was in an earthquake back in 1993 in Costa Mesa, - hurricanes are way more scary.
Take care all,
Paula
BTW, If you Google "factoid" you will see it is a word. RR
Morning Richard, Fellow Blogger's, Joe, and MORNING NEVA!
What a wonderful woman I had the pleasure of meeting here in Maui. Attractive, very intelligent, patient (would have to be with all the joking around my sister Gayle and I did with her yesterday), well-spoken.
A woman that would make a perfect travel companion because she herself has seen and explored so many places and things in her life.
And if you DON'T go Neva, well, like I said yesterday you would probably end up being dissapointed later on down the road that you didn't attend.
Richard, if anything at all you can take much of the responsibility (and you should be proud of this) of bringing bright, happy, intelligent woman together, and they can have fun and laugh and share things about one anothers lives. It has been a wonderful adventure thus far for me just for this. Thnx
Of course, one needs to not hold back, maybe you need to be the one to hold out your hand, say hi, then you never, ever know what can happen after that.
Well another lovely day here in Maui. Gayle and I are going to go and pick up are snokeling equipment and get some underwater shots of this paradise called Maui.
Wait one thing. Last night (after we walked you home Neva) Gayle when into the ocean and started swimming and kept calling me to join so I did.
We were the only two swimming in the bathtub temerature waters, two sisters in the moonlight laughing, holding onto one another. Then as we swam closer to the shore we sat on our hind ends and let the waves just bounce us around in the shallow waters. This had us ROTOFLOAO (rolling on the ocean floor........) and we giggled and giggled just like we did when we were little girls. Oh the things we are blessed with!!
Smiles to all, be happy, Neva one word CHICAGO. Y'all take care now.
Huggers,
Aloha,
Deb Eddy
Hello Richard, Joe and Ladies,
Looking forward to seeing/meeting you all in Chicago. Have made all of the reservations and hope that like "Katrina", "Rita" does not block me from attending this time.
I have been on the road quite a bit and have not had constant access to the net, so have been doing a quick skim of the blogs etc.
How are you ladies who are going on the cruise dressing?
POPCORN222 - Angie
RR - yes factoid is a word and so is factlet... very interesting huh! {------smile------}
Richard.......................if you hit my name it takes you to the blog page and just hit email.
but if this is easier:
DENEDICCI@AOL.COM
Its probably all over your blog site these last couple of days anyway.
Ladies please check out my blog site, ADA has asked me to post a request there that she has sent me

Trivia for the day,
As of this AM.About 30 had signed up for the Oddessy dinner cruise and about 30 for dinner at La Cantina.
Richard, Well, I'll Be!! I googled "factoid", and there it was. Also found "factlet". I am astounded!! "If a little factoid is a mini fact, a factlet is a mini factoid". That is what it said!! I learn something new on this blog each and every day. I had better start using Google and the other search engines. Thanks!! ANONYMOUS, Lady Jayne
Lady Jane...Everyday in some lettle way ,we grow wiser...right?MM
This post has been removed by the author.
MM, you bet we do!! Especially those of us with insatiable appetites for learning, and those of us who are writers. "Life is so interesting". Thanks, ANONYMOUS, Lady Jayne
Ladies,
Time for a little cyber-spanking! LOL! May we ask that you please not ask or report on the RSVP's for the activities that we have planned. That is my responsibility and, due to the fact we do not know who is posting and whether the information is accurate, we ask that you refrain from doing so. What this does is make more work for Richard and me as we have to verify the information for accuracy and follow up, etc. We appreciate all your offers of help and we will ask if we need help.
The logistics of an event like this can be daunting but Richard and I are having a ball thinking about what you would like to do and then making it all happen. All we want is for you all to come to the event and have a great time!
Thanks! Stay tuned for two more FUN announcements about the entertainment after dinner on Thursday and about the Odyssey Dinner Cruise.
My only suggestion about dress would be as follows:
Thursday, dinner: Casual to dressy. Let's be comfortable as most of us are coming in that day and the restaurant is more casual than formal. And you want comfortable clothes for later as you will be rolling in the aisles at the after-dinner entertainment we have planned for you.
Friday, cruise and dinner: I would not go ultra-formal but maybe dressy to semi-formal because, again, we want to be comfortable walking down the Navy Pier to the boat and then walking around the boat itself while "asea" (or is that "alake").
Saturday, dinner and Crazy Hat Party: Probably a little less dressy than Friday and you want to be ready for some other fun we have planned for you!
You may want to look at some of the photos of the Ladies who came to Manhattan Beach, especially the photo taken on the stairs at the Ayres Hotel on the "Meet the SB" page. That was during the cocktail party and buffet dinner on the first evening. Other photos are located in the blog archives for August 31, September 1 and 2.
Richard (pipe in here) will most likely be dressed in beach, semi-dressy Tommy Bahama type of clothes. Not much different than in those photos.
Hope this helps. Bye for now.

Joe: Thanks for your update of information!
RedTBird: I have to wait for 'unfinished business'. I have in my netflix queue; being here in the netherlands, I must wait for the postman for my films.
Lady Base: What a wonderful mind you have! I haven't enjoyed 'the cabinet of Dr. C' since film school! Wow, great black and white. The shadows were incredible from what I remember!
Operawench: I miss the beautiful sunsets of San Diego (really OB). Those colors are realy glorious.
Safarisoul: I hope you get enough hugs in your life. They are sooooo important. So many people need a touch and especially an overdose of a hug.
Hugs to all!
TO: JoeinMB -
Thanks so much for welcoming me in as a new Blogette, Joe. (Per your blog entry on Sat., 09/17 at 11:07 p.m.)
If you have free time (lol!!), just Google "die lustige witwe." It's a famous operetta by Franz Lehar, king of the genre of operetta.
If you like blues music, I wish some of us - especially Umberto - could walk over from our Hotel to Buddy Guy's Legends for an hour or two. 'Looks like free time won't be plentiful, though....
Thanks, Joe,
Die lustige Witwe von Chicago
Hey Sunni and Paula Thanks for noticing I didn't say good morning! Couldn't decide what to wear, ha ha.
So excited for all you girls going to Chicago to meet my new b'friend....I will share but you must return him in the shape you found him!
(I DO hope you all know by now I just like teasy fun!) RR doesn't even know he is my b'friend! Ha
Joe,
Sorry.I had no idea I was doing something wrong.
Dear "Prairie Critter",
And you really did nothing wrong. No worries. I know we are all excited about Chicago but with the blog being open on the internet we just have to be very, very careful what gets posted and who posts it. We have to be sure of our "factlets" and "factoids."
"Die lustige Witwe" LOL! I knew it sounded familiar. I took several years of German in college and one of the upper level profs introduced us to a lot of culture. I think that was one of the things we studied. Buddy Guys sounds great but we'll leave that for the next trip to Chicago. There are other favorite haunts Richard and I have talked about but we're going to places this trip we've never been to before so that adds to the Adventure!
Hey, spoke with Mina at "La Cantina" and she is absolutely fascinated with what you Ladies are doing and thinks you are so courageous (there's that word again.) She's printed several pages of the Senior Bachelor website and is reading them on the train on the way to work. I told her to join the blog! (She's missed the deadline so not to worry :)

Would you believe that I only checked the blog 2X yesterday? I scanned it quickly at work and then again last night.

I also remembr you from earlier blogs and wondered what happened to you or if you changed your name?
So nice to have you blogging again and thank you for sharing that special bit of TV trivia with all of us. Sounds like you've led an exciting life, travelling the world with your skating. Do you still skate?

Greetings to Richard, Joe and Ladies,
First I want to thank honestgal and Willemina for the cyber hugs you sent. I do get lots of hugs in my life now, but that is one thing we can never have too many of. Again, THANKS!
Richard, referring back to your comments in "Pop&Me" when you said that your children are all involved in lives of their own... You brought to mind a quote I love that says the job of parents is first to give our children roots and then to give them wings. So when our kids no longer need us in their day to day activities, it just means we did our job right!
Joe, I have my silly hat pictures ready. Are we going to have a place to post them soon?
Dearest Karrene and Kevin
United in the transforming power
of love, we are renewed in mind, body, and spirit as we pray for one another and the world.
Yesterday is gone
Grace is on its way
A new day is here
A new life to begin
Let us come togeather as one
From the least to the greatest
Let us be joined in spirit
Faith comes by hearing
A sweet revelation
In your hearts and souls
Faith and allegiance shall
Give birth to blessings
Blessings overflowing
From all of us
To both of you
In my heart of hearts
Deep in my soul
I reach a still place of power
My thoughts spread wings
Off they go
They travel deep and far
They cross the ocean
And soar the mountains
Flying with great speed
To seek out those in need
May you both be blessed
With the power of healing
Hi, I remember reading that there would be an opportunity to meet Richard in New York also. Is that still planned or will Chicago be the last opportunity?
Safari Soul....Wasn't it Kshil Gibran that said our childre come from us but they are only borrowed?Like you said we have to prepare them to fly on their own.
I think Richard should do a new movie"RR's Harem of one thousand".
Skiwatcher Ella...Our ice capads will be the 29th-Oct.2 and it is Finding Nemo. I'm sure it will be fantastic but I'll be in Chi. the whole time. I watched soo many of the things your G.M. was in. Great good and clean entertainment.
Willemena I'll have to wear my Blue Chinese jacket to deliver your hugs.
I am going to bed early and read 'til I get sleepy so pleasant dreams to Richard and Joe and the chicks out there. XXXOOO
HONESTGAL - Good to hear from you. Unfinished Life was only playing at 1 theater so I had to go across town to see it. The last movie Redford made was out for 2 wks and than was gone. I had to wait for it to come out on video so this time I was there when it opened. If it's not a kids movie they just don't do well anymore.
Are you going to Chicago?
Nancy
DEBBIE EDDY - Whats happening?
For Sylvia…(Heiresschild)…
If I could catch a rainbow
I would do it just for you
And share with you its beauty
On the days you're feeling blue.
If I could build a mountain
You could call your very own
A place to find serenity
A place to be alone
If I could take your troubles
I would toss them in the sea
But all these things I'm finding
Are impossible for me.
I cannot build a mountain
Or catch a rainbow fair
But let me be what I know best…
A friend who's always there.
Love to YOU …
Skywatcher-“ella”
DEBBY EDDY - You just make us all jealous. What a time u r having. Enjoy that sister of yours and thanks for sharing.
Doesn't Chicago sound fun?
Nancy
Unfortunately I do not have the time to travel to other cities. My biggest regret, by far, about this endeavor is that I was unable to meet each and every woman. For that I apologize. Nighty night, RR
Good night Richard and sweet dreams
Well I for one am sorta glad you aren't meeting each and every woman! Heh heh. Here's hoping you've already met at least a few that you are pretty confident you can make fun with for a month...add a few more from Chicago and let's get planning to go rock the world!
Sweet dreams.....
okay everyone,
I have posted some new pics on my blog. There is one in particular that may interest all of you. It's of me and my younger sister. I was afraid to post this picture earlier as most of you would say to yourselves, "how can I compete with her?" and you would be so right. I knew that once Richard saw this picture, he would fall madly in love with me...well, you'll just have to check it out for yourselves...nighty night
Hi Redtbird..............Spent the entire day snorkeling (Maui) right off the beach of the Sheraton. Absolutely wonderful. I've been two days in the sun here, and already have a tan like you wouldn't believe. MISS YOU
And yes, Chicago does sound fun. Every person that attends will be blown away by Richard and Joe's orginization of the entire three fun-packed days, and nights. I really don't know how they do it!!!
Neva, what did you do today girlfriend? Hope you had as much fun as Gayle and I did yesterday!! You're a sweet, sweet person. We need to know where we should go to long-board surf.....call me, thnx and hugs.
Hugs to all.
Deb Eddy
Well, just got home from school (Meet the Teacher Night) and got caught up. Too much reading for me after another l..o..n..g day. Don't know if I'm going to have the time to design a crazy hat, so I will thoroughly enjoy the photos of all you others. Gee, tomorrow I should be able to get home by 5ish. A short day!
sylvia I think of you and yours often and pray that things will work out in a positive way. I can't imagine your stress right now but know that those who know you and those who don't are with you in spirit.
Richard It's almost over. Soon the really fun part will begin. {{U}}
Lady Base - when I read your comments about San Diego it took me back to Mission Beach - many a fun time did I have there - loved living at the beach. I also lived in Pacific Beach and Wind & Sea Beach in LaJolla - a bit of a wondering foot I have. That was in the early 70's late 60's - do you remember Maynards by the Sea?
I have a BA degree from San Diego State. I was able to attend college, work part time, and live at the beach - a whole lot cheaper back then.
In 2002 I went back to SD for the first time in years - a very different city but some of my old haunts were still there.
Debby Eddy - I took my first trip to Maui last March - absolutely loved it. Did the bike ride down the volcano - all down hill - just the way I like it. Would go back again in a second. Fell in love with the turtles. I have a friend who lives there and works at one of the golf courses and I played 18 holes of golf with her one afternoon. It was hard to watch my ball with whales spouting just off the shore line.
Sylvia - been thinking about you and your family. Keep us posted.
I so enjoy reading all of the remarks on the blog - I look so forward to meeting everyone in Chicago - you too Richard - happy dreams.
Melanie
FRANCHESCA: you go girl! ...i know if i was visiting Chicago or any other place i had not been to i would be delighted to have someone playing "hostess"...i think all "sour grapes" should be culled from the vine, if you get my drift, nudge nudge, wink wink...and you too DOLCE VITA, i know i would not snub an offer to be welcomed at the airport..in fact i love people meeting me, and when i meet people at the airport i sometimes dress up in an outrageous get up and carry a handful of balloons, or maybe a crazy balloon, like a dinasour or something...life is a celebration..., non?LINDA, for the moment you hat still gets my vote, i think you should keep that picture up...in between reading this blog i'm trying to make a rhubard and strawberry meringue desert, but got so involved, complete forgot, so i hope i have not ruined it...have to let it cool down a bit before i put the meringue ontop...SKYWATCHER...now when i see a harvest moon or one that wakes me at 2 or 3 in the morning, i'll remember you and know there is someone else who may be up at the wee hours gazing out at the beautiful early morning sky. in and around Vancouver, the sunrises in summer are spectacular, all pink and blue, and in the fall it is the sunsets that are magical...all gold and full moonish, and just before Halloween, the full moon is so huge one it takes over the whole sky...
You DO have a very exciting life PRARIE CRITTER ...I can't remember where you live, but it sounds like you are on acreage, or somewhere out in the "sticks" (i.e. country, as in 'not in the city")...i love owls too, you are so lucky to be haveing encounters with wild animals...i don't get many since moving back to the suburbs from the 'sticks' or "boonies" as some people say...after i posted the excerp about Coyote i decided to check out "chickadee", and found this: KEYNOTE: Cheerfula nd Truthful Expression CYCLE OF POWER: Spring. "The chickadee is part of the titmouse family. "...oh yeah??..."Tit" is a folksy 14th-century for English name for anything little. The "mouse" part of titmouse comes from "mose", a general name that was applied to any small, dull-coloured bird in that same period."...hmm, i'm sure RR did not know this, as i know he does not think of The Ladies of The Blog as dull...anyway, i digress.."It is known for its cherry call, and to many people its mating song is the first true sign of spring. It ususally has a black cap on its head. Many birds have caps, and this has great significance. Anything associated with the head has aplications to the thinking process, highter mind, and higher perceptions. Black is associated with mystery, the feminine, and the great womb of life." ...WOW, i did not know this!..."As to the colour of the cap, it reflects that the chickadee can help you with the uncoveirng of mysteries of the mind. It can awaken understanding and higher truth. It can help you to perceive more clearly in the dark. To the Cherokee Indians, the chakadee is the bird of truth. It helps us to pinpoint truth and knowledge. One tale speaks of a witch by the name of Spearfinger who terrorized the entire tribe. She would wait in hiding to kill any passer-by. After killing them, she could stab the liver of the individual with her spearfiner and eat it. Nothing seemed to be able to stop the witch as she was made mostly of stone. Then chickadee landed on her, showing the tribe warriors exactly where she was vulnerable to attack. Chickaadees usually travel in groups, reflecting a cheerful sociableness about them."...how apt...
" For such a small bird, it is also fearless, with no qualms of taking on larger birds that may threaten it.
There are seven kinds of chickadees and this is most significant to those with this totem. Seven has an ancient mysticism associated with it throught the world. It is a sacred number. It is a symbol of the individual rising from the material plane of life, as depicted in the ancient image of the triangle(3)upon the square(4). It has association with the seven rays of power, the seven major planets, the seven bodies of the human being, and the seven chakra centres.
It is this last correspondence that is reflected most strongly with the chickadee. When the seven chakras or energy centers of humans are blaanced, there is a greater realization of truth in the world around us. It also enables us to express the truth more joyfully within our life. Some people say, 'the truth hurts.;. Those who have a chickadee as a totom will learn to express the truth in a manner that heals, balances, and opens the perceptions. Truth is shared in a manner that adds cheer and joy to our own life and the lives of others."
Well! are The Ladies Of The Blog well named OR WHAT!!
sweet dreams of sensuas sailing, and elegant eating aboard the Oddessy...g'nite..

Good early morning (it's 1:45 am here) RR, Joe, Ladies, and Gents (?),
To everyone praying: i just want to say "maholo" (means thank you; i picked it up from Yvonne in honolulu and Neva on this blogsite)for all of the prayers, words of encouragement, emails, poems, etc. for me, my daughter, my brother and the rest of my family. Words can't even begin to describe how you each have made me feel; you've brought tears to my eyes. I feel the prayers and the love. Thanks.
My daughter and her husband told me to tell you all thank you, and that they appreciate your prayers so much. The doctors are planning on taking the baby between today and this weekend, which is 32 weeks, but they'd still like to wait until 36 weeks.
Prarie Critter, your info was very timely; i shared it with my daughter. And they did give her that shot on Monday and Tuesday to help develop the baby's lungs.
DebbyEddy, that was a beautiful story you shared about you and your sister Gayle.
Willemina, please share about "Redeye" when you go and see it.
Peachie, love your name. Everytime I see your name, my mouth waters. Makes me want to go to the refrigerator.
Again thanks La Dolce Vida, Peachie, Callmelin, Mary R, Anonymous (got your email), Flowergirl, Willemina, Sunni, Carol in Riverwoods, Dreamweaver, Marty, Ada (got your message, will call tomorrow evening), Operawench, MerryMary, Sunrise, Prarie Critter, Paula in Florida, Leslie, Soft_Rain, Clickgirl, Bikingnut, DragonFlyFilly, and everyone else praying (trying to remember everyone).
DragonFlyFilly, that sounds like fun when you dress in something outrageous or carry a balloon, etc. when you pick up at the airport. It makes me laugh just thinking about it. Maybe since you accidentally hit the post button twice for me, that means double healing. Thanks, I'll take it.
A lot of excitement on the blogs regarding Chicago. I know it's going to be so much fun.
I'm getting ready to go to bed. Have a good nite. And thanks again.
Sylvia
Yay!!! Canadian JD Fortune is the new lead singer of INXS!! I've been following the show all summer and love his singing. All the rockers were great but I've been rooting for JD from the start. Here's to CANADA joining the AUSSIES to rock the world!
DancingGirl Through all the goings and comings you still remain focused on what is important and true.
I can only say for myself that I did not lose my values, or change my standards or discredit my morals for the sensationalistic competitive sport of women diving into a puddle for a free trip with one man who really isn't all that. That would never be the way I would want to have a relationship start. I am well centered enough to realize that I am the prize that got away free and unscathed. I feel good about that. Money can not buy the pure at heart.
Need some help: I had just written a long answer, went to see Willimena's pics (they are great) & lost it. Is there a way to save what you've written so this doesn't happen? Do you just have to keep notes so when you get to the bottom you can write everything or is there a way to "bookmark" your spot to come back to your place on the blog?
Loved the Mommy/friend card one of you got & the poem about only being a friend (no mts. etc.)
Sylvia, looking forward to your call & hope you take what I am sending out in the next blog ('cause I think there is a word limit.) as just a bit of humor (unless it really is so)to give you some reprieve from the clouds over you.
CONNIE: Do you need info on the rally itself, or re D.C.?
LADYBASECAMP: I think you were refrring to someone else but I was an ice dancer (tested up to pre-silvers.) The Delaware-VA corridor is loaded with rinks & great pros. Took lessons from Dorothy Hammil's choreographers & I think they were one of the reasons she moved to my neighborhood. I can probably connect you to many skaters. Am I at my limit?
I THINK THIS IS FUNNY/INTERESTING:
IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE EXPECTING
Can something you eat actually cause labor to begin? Here are two recipes you can try -- maybe you can jump-start the birth process!
For more than twenty years,(THAT IS LIKE 1 A MONTH) women have gone to Scalini's Italian restaurant in Cobb County, Georgia, with one thing on their minds: To go into labor. They always order the Eggplant Parmesan, which, so far, has helped encourage more than 300 babies to come into the world within 48 hours of their mom eating the meal.
The restaurant promises results within two days. If you haven't had your baby by then, expectant moms get a gift certificate for another try.
The chefs at Scalini's shared their recipe with us. If it doesn't work, sorry, there's no gift certificate -- but you can use the recipe again, absolutely free of charge. (For best results, don't try it until your due date.)
Eggplant Parmesan alla Scalini's Ingredients:
3 medium size eggplants
1 cup of flour
6 eggs, beaten
4 cups fine Italian bread crumbs, seasoned
Olive oil for sautéing
8 cups of marinara sauce*
1/2 cup of grated Romano cheese
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 lbs of mozzarella cheese shredded
2 cups of ricotta cheese
Instructions:
After you wash the eggplant, slice them into 1/4 inch thick slices. You may choose to peel the eggplant before you slice it, however you may want to leave the skin on since the skin contains a lot of vitamins. Place the eggplant slices on a layer of paper towels and sprinkle with a little salt, then cover with another layer of paper towels and hold it down with something heavy. This will drain the excess moisture. Let them set for about an hour.
Working with one slice of eggplant at a time, dust with flour, then dip in beaten eggs, then coat well with bread crumbs. Saute' in preheated olive oil on both sides until golden brown.
In baking dish, alternate layers of marinara sauce, eggplant slices, ricotta, parmesan, and romano cheeses, until you fill the baking dish about an 1/8 inch from the top. Cover with shredded mozzarella cheese and bake for 25 minutes in 375 degree oven. Let set for 10 minutes before serving.
Scalini's Marinara Sauce
2 tablespoons of chopped garlic
3 tablespoons of olive oil
8 cups chopped tomatoes (fresh or canned)
1 cup onions chopped
1/2 cup of fresh chopped parsley
1 teaspoon of oregano
1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper
1/8 cup of fresh chopped sweet basil
Pinch of thyme
Pinch of rosemary
One teaspoon salt
One teaspoon black pepper
Lightly sauté the onions in olive oil in large pot for a few minutes. Add garlic and saute' another minute. Add tomatoes and bring sauce to boil, then turn heat to low. Add remaining ingredients, stir, cover and let simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally
Bikingnut Michelle: Maynards by the sea?!!!!!! Of course- Garnet by the pier, I think. It was across from the Jesus freak place and they had a walk up window and free taco night. My mischievous friends would get in the line over and over until the cook recognized them. The Hells Angels hung out there, a little scary, but they were always kind to the kids. One of my high school friends was a model they befriended and she told me they told her, “Act like a lady and you’ll get treated like one” Ive never forgotten that. I was way too young to get into any of those places. One time the Doors were playing in a store front and I didn’t even care, I was too young and too sober to get in. But the winter waves were good ; particularly Law Street and Bird Rock. I remember making a huge jump rope once , out of kelp; hanging out with a kid named Biff, building a raft from wood and 50 gal drums and launching it. Do you know where dead man’s is, on the south end of La Jolla Shores? I lived very near there in my first house. Every Friday on my day off I baked pies and I used to lure young fellas with blueberry pie! Don’t worry. . Dead Man’s wasn’t named after me!
Dear Richard,
How can one meet over 1000 women face to face in appx. 6 months???
I don't think you need to apologize although you would have loved to have had the opportunity to meet all those women. You are meeting them in a sense by taking the time to watch the videos, and reading the bios by yourself. I think that is to be commended in itself. Most men wouldn't even do all that and would just be satisfied to go out with 'whomever'. I know that you are treating this endeavor very seriously as you are ready to move on in your life and find your life's partner. So Richard, thank you for taking it upon yourself to make quite a thorough search, and that you won't settle for just 'whomever'. I feel very fortunate to be among the few that have met you in person. The meeting, as short as it was, was meaningful. If I don't see you again I will always keep this time in my life in my memory as quite an adventure. A year ago was the last time I dated anyone, and he was way too busy to take on a relationship. I was intrigued by this Journey because you are a man who wants to spend some quantity and quality time with a woman to get to know her. It's nice for all of us in the search with you to know that you will have time for whomever you choose to travel with you, and that you can give first place to the friendship/relationship that develops. That would give me a great feeling of security if I were your traveling partner.
I'm sure most of the women on this Blog, whether they be writing,and/or just reading feel as I do. I'm just the type though that would either tell you this in person, or as I have to do for now, write it out. Richard, please have no regrets about all the women you didn't meet in person. You just have to go with the info in hand about each one, and getting to meet some of us is a special opportunity. I know you will do just fine in your selection process because you have such a good head on your shoulders and a good heart within.
Take good care of yourself Richard.
All of us on this Journey want to see you do your best work in making your choices for traveling partners.
Live with No Regrets,
Keep a song in your heart and
A smile on your face...:)

Good Morning Richard,
House Sitting
A man left his cat with his brother while he went on vacation for a week.
When he came back, the man called his brother to see when he could pick the cat up.
The brother hesitated, then said, "I'm so sorry, but while you were away, the cat died."
The man was very upset and yelled, "You know, you could have broken the news to me better than that.
When I called today, you could have said he was on the roof and wouldn't come down.
Then when I called the next day, you could have said that he had fallen off and the vet was working on patching him up.
Then when I called the third day, you could have said he had passed away."
The brother thought about it and apologised.
"So how's Mom?" asked the man.
"She's on the roof and won't come down."
There were 11 people hanging on to a single rope that suspended them from a helicopter trying to bring them to safety.
Ten were men; one was a woman.
They all decided that one person would have to let go because if they didn't, the rope would break and all of them would die.
No one could decide who it should be.
Finally the woman gave a really touching speech.
She went on to say how she would give up her life to save the others, because women were used to giving things up for their husbands and children and giving in to men.
All of the men started clapping.
DRAGONFLYFILLY to SKYWATCHER...
"Now when I see a harvest moon or one that wakes me at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning, I'll remember you & know there is someone else who may be up at the wee hours gazing out at the beautiful early morning sky..."
MOON MUSINGS...“To the poet in search of enchantments, the rhythm of the Moon is a spell. The Moon is full of magical musical spells and witchery, and is an eternal source of mystic inspiration for the magician-artist, songwriter and poet.
Its woeful influence injects an air of pandemonium at each FULL MOON... Dreamers chase dreams, lovers seek romance, and artists seek inspiration by the light of the Moon...
The Moon lends an air of surreal wonderment to the artist and storyteller in search of a magical world, as the Queen of the nocturnal sky inspires our imaginations and bends our emotions...”

Hello everyone, This is my first time on the Blog. Chicago sounds like so much fun. I can't afford to join you but I wish you all a good time and I hope you will post lots of comments and pictures so that the rest of us can enjoy it vicariously. Sorry I can't meet you yet Richard but there is still hope for the future.
Good morning Richard and all you new found friends...I feel like it is absolutely fantastic that we have bonded and care for each other so much. I thank God for each one of you .
VJ...I watched Pop and Me again....2 nights in a "Roe"...What do you suppose was in that long pipe he was smoking when Chris was trying to get him to relax??? I may need some. I'm getting all nervous and excited. Chris certainly favors Richard and Gabby looks like Mae(his Mom) and Little Rich favors both. Everyone have a good Hump day. Ya Hear?? Blessings to all. Mary in Tulsa Town.
Ada--thank you, I think we're set for DC this weekend, staying with someone's brother-in-law in Alexandria and taking the metro in. I've checked the unitedforpeace.org site for other info. Myriam in VA from this blog also offered help. Thank you both.
Anonymous at 11:40 Sept. 20 -- you made my today. For whatever reason, I feel called to offer myself into this fray. We will see if Richard also has the eyes to see what is "important and true."
The outcome of this venture might enhance that authenticity, but be assured that it will never diminish it. I'm here --not for travel or money--but for the possibility of two authentic people joining forces to be good to each other and to do good for those they touch.
Money still cannot buy the pure of heart. What is important and true remains constant no matter what life brings or doesn't bring...
Thank you for your kind words.
Connie AKA dancingirl
Did you all hear about the new Texas state lottery??????
The winner gets $3,000 a year for the next million years.....(My kind of humor) mm
Good Morning!
Ditto on the compliments paid to Connie, dancingirl
What a class act! I had the priviledge of seeing her trapeze video...what grace!
I, on the other hand have been perfectly willing to "change my standards, discredit my morals, and jump into the puddle". Heh heh...whatever all that means.... courtesy of Ms anon
Dear Ada,
In your post to Lady Base Camp, I read that you were an ICE DANCER! How COOL (brrrrrrrr)!!!! It seems Ice Skating is such a small world that skaters often feel part of a “family” even without meeting in person. Maybe it's because we share a similar background, dedication, and love for the art/sport…
You mentioned taking lessons from some of Dorothy Hamill’s choreographers whom I have probably worked with over the past 31 years (Sarah Kawahara, Scott Hamilton, Peggy Fleming, etc?). Good grief, has it been that long?
Dorothy signed a contract with Ice Capades right after she won the Olympics & we toured together for 4 years across the USA & Canada. Several years later (1982), she asked me to skate the part of the “SNOW QUEEN” (Solo) & the “SUGAR PLUM FAIRY” (Adagio) in her HBO Production of “THE NUTCRACKER—A FANTASY ON ICE” which we filmed in Toronto (also starring Robin Cousins, JoJo Starbuck, etc (now on VHS--Amazon.com)...
I wish I could say that being a Professional Ice Skating “Diva” was a glamorous life, but as is true in most of life/illusion, it was NOTHING like it appeared on the surface. Sorry, but I won’t spoil the “illusion” for anyone else by going into the details here! Eeeeeeek!
The “experience” on the whole, however, was profoundly life changing and someday perhaps I’ll be able to apply it to THIS life in some positive, productive, & helpful way!
Although I love children but have none of my own, I try to fill that void when I can by teaching kids (and even adult “kids”) ice skating, gymnastics, and ballet. I still love the ARTS / SPORTS… Guess it’s in the genes!!! Do you still skate, Ada? I’d love to hear your thoughts about it…
WARMEST “ICE” Wishes to YOU…
Skywatcher/ ”Shy”Skater-“ella”

1. We got off the Titanic first.
2. We can scare male bosses with the mysterious gynecological disorder excuses.
3. Taxis stop for us.
4. We don't look like a frog in a blender when dancing.
5. No fashion faux pas we make, could ever rival the Speedo.
6. We don't have to pass gas to amuse ourselves.
7. If we forget to shave, no one has to know.
8. We can congratulate our teammate without ever touching her rear end.
9. We never have to reach down every so often to make sure our privates are still there.
10. We have the ability to dress ourselves.
11. We can talk to the opposite sex without having to picture them naked.
12. If we marry someone 20 years younger, we are aware that we will look like an idiot.
13. We will never regret piercing our ears.

15. We can make comments about how silly men are in their presence because they aren't listening anyway.
CONNIE:Have a great time at the rally. I'm with you.
good morning everyone,
it's a beautiful day here - low humidity; plenty of sunshine; light, gentle breeze blowing
enjoyed the humor soft_rain. thanks.
have a good day everyone.

Hey Linda in Tucson I am with you - if sending in a video, bio, and picture means that I am - what is it - losing my values, changing my standards, and discrediting my morals - I say go for it. I thought that what we were doing is expressing our values, standards, and morals. AND having some fun in the process.
Lady Base Camp - that is the place. Hells Angles and all - Sunday morning was the best time to go for their omelets. Very interesting patrons - too bad they tore it down -
Richard - all of the ladies in search of fun, adventure, and romance are wondering if you can be seen above your pile of mail or are you still buried?
Melanie
FRIENDS ARE CHOSEN FAMILY!
This adventure has expanded my family, I am truly blessed!
Michelle
P.S. Linda, you are a quick witted one!
