CRAZY/SILLY/FUNNY Hat party, now for everyone!!!

NEWSFLASH- Sept 19, 8:30AM PST- The Senior Bachelor Newsletter for Monday, September 19 just went out. Lots of details for Chicago!!

Also, the newsletter highlights a special offer from Netflix for Senior Bachelorettes. I'll repeat the info here:

I just received an email from Netflix because my movie, "Pop & Me," is available from them. I have been a member of Netflix for years and I REALLY LIKE the way their service works. This gave me a thought, along with the recent discussion on the blog about movies, that we should have a place on the Senior Bachelor website to discuss movies. I LOVE talking about how my son, Chris and I made the movie and how Hollywood works. In fact, I lecture about this at UCLA several times a year on this subject.

In addition, Netflix is really, really affordable now. They have a special offer of $9.99 per month and they are giving ONE MONTH FREE if you sign up through the Senior Bachelor. So click on this link to sign up now and then we can start discussing movies in a couple of weeks.

Netflix;-Only 9.99 a month. Over 40,000 Titles. No Late Fees. Try it for Free

Don't worry, it's not going to take time away from the Senior Bachelor Search and Journey-- movies are my hobby! RR

Original Post:

Hi Folks, There have been so many positive comments about the upcoming Crazy/Silly/Funny hat party in Chicago, that I thought it would be fun to include everybody from the blog and Newsletter list as well. How, you ask? Via the Internet! You can send a picture of yourself decked out in your goofy hat, or multiple pictures with different goofy hats, to a new Page which will be established on www.seniorbachelor.com . Then weekly, or monthly (to be determined), we will have everybody voting for the most creative and funniest hat, and I'll award prizes to the winners (also to be determined). I just had this idea 5 minutes ago, so details will follow. Well, back to watching tapes and reading biographies. After all, someone has to do it!! Ciao, Richard Roe

Hi Richard,
Great to hear from you today. A sweet surprise!
That is a great idea. You are never short on creative ways of making this on-going adventure more fun. Even through all the "stuff" you still think about the rest of us. I am sure that you are having a great time viewing the creative videos and making it fun.
Can you tell me about how many more videos you received? Is there an update on how many women are coming to Chicago? Time is winding down.
Thanks
Paula

Sybil, The whole idea IS to look funny, or not good. The more "awful" you look, the better-at least in this case. So come on, send 'em in once we get the page up. Richard Roe

DearVJ Dreamweaver,I ordered 2 Pop and Me's from Amozon and 2 from Sam Goodies and they said could take up to 2 weeks so I should get them in time for Chicago to get autographed...1 for each of my kids and 1 for my sis.
Paula.Last night I ran into my x-ciusin by my first marriage and I hadn't seen her in sometime. You 2 could be twins and she is just as sweet as pretty. Her husband committed suicide 10 years ago and she hasn't remarried. He left her very wealthy but he was having mega problems. I showed her Richard's picture and she just drolled. She wanted to meet him too and do the vcr and bio and I told her the cut off was the 16th. If hee doesn't find a soulmate out of all of us I'll have to get them together. We ran around all the time when she married my first husband's cousin. If I see her I'll get a picture to bring for you to see. Should I show it to Richard? I told my son and he said I don't think you need any more competion. It's been a blast so far...can't wait 'till Chicago. By for now...I've got to think about my hat. I won it at Grove when we did it for Easter 2 years ago...but I bribed everyone to vote for me by giving out gold coins(gold foil w/ chocolate candy inside). All is fair in love and contests????MM

Hi merrymary
Is it me your X-cousin looks like? I get that a lot - I am exactly the twin of someone. I would love to see a picture of her - if we really do look alike it would be a first. I never think I look like any of them so far. But Let's not give RR any more pictures to ponder...yet!
Hey and chocolate is my favorite bribe!! You go girl! :)

Richard and Umberto - I am a bit hesitant of those "many" late night pictures. Can I have my agent (me) give first right of refusal? just kidding.. I think!

i LOVE this idea! my creative processess are perculating away!...photos to be forthcoming; but you know i'm not so good with deadlines, unless it is for a research paper that i get marked on!, lol..
I had a WONDERFUL day with my daughter yesterday after she paged me to tell me to meet her at Starbucks where she treated ME to a pumpkin de-caf, lowfat late, told her about the contest, :she did not say "oh brother, mom" as i expected. however, she did connect me to HER blog and later showed me how to do some techy stuff to improve mine. i fixed dinner for us (my world famous fabulous salad) and then drove her home..
well back to my sewing machine and glue gun to get started on that hat!...

Boy, turn my back for one minute and Richard makes more work for me! Please, please hold on to your "crazy hat" photos until we have the page ready on the website. We'll make the announcement on the blog and in the Senior Bachelor newsletter and provide instructions when it is ready to go.

I think it is going to be a lot of FUN! I'll also post some generic instructions later on how to upload photos to the web or attach them to emails. I know the technology can be daunting so I'll try to make sense of it if I can. I may even offer to scan actual photos for you if it can be done practically.

I have a sister that has the MOST fabulous hat collection, but alas, she lives in Colorado-and I don't-so I guess I am on my own. I am going to get on it tonight-just got out of the pool-it is 98 degrees here-yep, Texas heat!!!

Hi Richard, Joe, Umberto and all the chickadees......just got back from a really fun weekend with the girlfriends. Every year we go to an event called 'Cherrys Jubilee', it is a classic car show that benefits the local hospital. This years proceeds goes to the newborn icu unit.

What a great time we had and definetly a step back to the past where the best of memories were made. Great cars, wonderful music and people of our age group.

Since becoming involved with Richards 'Adventure', this year seemed more fun than ever. I wore my husbands letterman jacket and class ring to the 'dress for it' party. The downtown theater was showing 'Rebel Without A Cause'.

Hey Richard I saw two '55 T-Birds but something was missing.........Oh yeah.......You!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greetings to all as we chew our nails waiting for the results of Richards search....This is worse than a pregancy test..............

I think it is great that the hat contest will be open to everyone. Bad enough that some won't be in Chi. but to be left out of the hat contest - just not fair!

Since some are taking on the name of chick-a-dees maybe it should be called the HAT CHAT. Besides the fact that we chat here, another def. is "any of several birds known for their chattering call..."
No, not French, like catty. LOL

Hey Joe,

A few days ago you mentioned wanting a picture of all of us with Richard on the carousel at Navy Pier. No way! I’m ABSOLUTELY SURE that what Richard really wants is to join me (and all of the rest of us, of course!) on the giant ferris wheel. After all, isn’t this supposed to be about adventure? Some of us have stepped pretty far out of our comfort zone from the get go – SO HOW ABOUT IT, RICHARD?

Linda in Tuscon, I can't believe it. Here I am asking dumb questions about the "Crazy Hat Contest" and you have already entered the lst hat. WOW! It's a beauty! I am older than you and not to high tech. I guess I am telling my age. To Paula in Florida: I have a sterling silver charm bracelet with an old timey key charm and a little plaque that says "Come Up and See Me Some Time" - Mae West at her best!! Better get off that subject or we may be perceived as "Old Biddy Pervs".
This same bracelet has a movable "Flit Can". Do you remember these cans that our mothers and grandmothers used to flit bugs away with? Maybe not! I too am always mistaken for some celebrity, ever since I was a young girl, people would say I looked like Jean Simmons, Elizabeth Taylor, Hedy Lamar, Sophia Loren (as I get older) and many others, but I really don't look like any of them. Isn't it funny what is in the "Eye of the Beholder"?
I have to get off this blog. I have spent entirely to many hours blogging these blogs especially since I had never heard of "A Blog" until Richard started all this. It is all his fault that we are Pervs, dreaming dreams, having fantacies, acting like Mae Westies, and now hats. It is all your fault Mr. Roe, all your fault, and WE LOVE IT!!! ANONYMOUS, Lady Jayne

I am getting off the blog NOW. It's 8:00 p.m. here and I want to watch Larry King and get caught up on my beloved New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. From that ANONYMOUS, Lady Jayne

Here is a funny story I just got from my uncle it is called "JUST A WEEEEEE BIT"

An extraaordinarily handsome man decided he had the responsibility to marry the perfect woman so they could produce beautiful children beyond compare. With that as his mission he began searching for the perfect woman.

Shortly there after he met a farmer who had three stunning, gorgeous daughters that positively took his breath away. So he sxplained his mission to the farmer asking for permission to marry one of them.

The farmer simply replied, "They're lookin' to get married, so you came to the right place look 'em over and pick the one you want."

The man dated the first daughter. The next day the farmer asked for the man's opinion.

"Well, said the man, "she is just a weeeee bit, not that you can hardly notice....pigeon-toed."

The farmer nodded and suggested the man date one of the other girls, so the man want out with the second daughter.

The next day, the farmer again asked how things went.

"Well, the man replied, "she's just a weeee bit, not that you can hardly tell....cross-eyed."

The farmer nodded and suggested he date the third girl to see if things might be better. So he did.

The next morning the man rushed in exclaiming, "She is perfect, just perfect. She's the one I want to marry."

So they were wed right away. Months later the baby was born. When the man visited the nursery he was horrified: the baby was the ugliest, most pathetic human yo can imagine. He rushed to his father-in-law asking how such a thing could happen considering the beauty of the parents.

"well," explained the farmer, "she was just a weeeee bit, not that you could hardly tell....pregnant when you met her."

question to OK DANGER RANGER: Huh?
hey LINDA, if you could give me a set like those you gave Paula, GO RIGHT AHEAD, 'tho on second thought, maybe just a tad smaller, since i'm only 5' 1/34" - the hat is great, - VERY appropriate, if somewhat a bit premature, eh? [joke] {one has to clarify, it seems, when one is being serious or trying one's hand at humour}- when i am being catty i'll type [meow, or hiss and when i am joking i will type lol or joke, hopefully there will be no confusion [joke]!!!! lol
i must admit i had a somewhat similar idea, only my veil is white, well, more grey than white truth be told. - no joke, it really is grey, well, from age, (it belongs to my friend and she got married when she was 21).
ADA: happy to share the salad recipe - romain or greenleaf lettuce (no iceberg for this chickypoo)ummm...oh yeah, spring or green onions, whatever you know them as,similar to chives only larger, artichoke hearts (marinated or otherwise just canned) cut into pieces, red bell peppers, or orange if you like, or both, feta cheese (break into smallish pieces with a fork) sliced black olives, you can use a small amount of spanish onion if you really really like onions, sometimes i add a few radishes, or an avocardo if i have a ripe one hanging around, (absolutely no tomatoes or cucumbers allowed, as they quite alter the taste), and then i add my fabourite Kraft dressing, Signature Greek with Feta & Oregano; but you can mix your own; if i don't have a commercial dressing around i would just grind some herbs with my mortar and pestel, sweet basil, oregano,( a must) pepper, the SMALLEST pinch of nutmeg - mix with your favourite wine vinegar and some extra virgin Olive oil. and Buona Appetito (how's my spelling Richard?);
Never mind the ferris wheel, Carol, how about the Roller Coaster, or better yet Wild 'n Wet Ride (heh heh)
oh MERRYMARY you DO make me chuckle...in a good way...i dunno ADA, you kind of got it with your salutation Happy Designing, Women. "Designing Women" i remember when my mom referred to a girl who fancied a boy, she would say; she has designs on him; so designing women...get it? or is this a bit of a stretch?
yes, Ciao All

Hello Sweet Richard,

What a wonderful idea to include us all in the hat contest, great thinking to use the web. So sweet of you to think of the rest of us, but then again thats just who you are, " The essence of sweetness "

To MerryMerry & Desertflowers

Laughing releases endorphines that help us relax, they say this helps slow the ageing process, oh well, you never know, so heres a dose for yall.

51 Days

A bartender is sitting behind the bar on a typical day, when the door bursts open and in come four exuberant blondes.

They come up to the bar, order five bottles of champagne and ten glasses, take their order over and sit down at a large table.

The corks are popped, the glasses are filled and they begin toasting and chanting, "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!"

Soon, three more blondes arrive, take up their drinks and the chanting grows. "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!"

Two more blondes show up and soon their voices are joined in raising the roof. "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!"

Finally, the tenth blonde comes in with a picture under her arm. She walks over to the table, sets the picture in the middle and the table erupts.

Up jumps the others, they begin dancing around the table, exchanging high-fives, all the while chanting "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!"

The bartender can't contain his curiosity any longer, so he walks over to the table.

There in the center is a beautifully framed children's jigsaw puzzle.

When the frenzy dies down a little bit, the bartender asks one of the blondes, "What's all the chanting and celebration about?"

The blonde who brought in the picture explains, "Everyone thinks that blondes are dumb and they make fun of us.

So, we decided to set the record straight. Ten of us got together, bought that puzzle and put it together.

"The side of the box said 2 to 4 years, but we put it together in 51 days!"

OH MY !!

Feel like a woman
On a Trans-Atlantic flight, a plane passes through a severe storm.

The turbulence is awful, and things go from bad to worse when one wing is struck by lightning.

One woman in particular loses it. Screaming, she stands up in the front of the plane. "I'm too young to die!" she wails.

Then she yells, "Well, if I'm going to die, I want my last minutes on earth to be memorable!

No one has ever made me really feel like a woman!

Well I've had it! Is there ANYONE on this plane who can make me feel like a WOMAN??"

For a moment there is silence. everyone has forgotten their own peril, and they all stare, riveted, at the desperate woman in the front of the plane.

Then, a man stands up in the rear of the plane. "I can make you feel like a woman," he says.

This tall, tanned and built guy with jet black eyes starts to walk slowly up the aisle, unbuttoning his shirt one button at a time.

No one moves.

As this man approaches, the woman begins to get excited.

He removes his shirt.

Muscles ripple across his chest as he reaches her.

He extends his arm to the trembling woman, and whispers:
"Iron this."

G'Day Richard, Joe, and all the Ladies of the Blog!
I have just started reading the blogs and decided to try this myself--there's a first time for everything, right?
You all sound like great, fun-loving folk and I hope to meet some of you in Chicago.

Just catching up on all the recent SB blogs, so some of my comments may seem dated!

Connie: Your menu was as good if not better than your nuptial rites! You deserve a prize BUT you still CANNOT have mine! :)

Lady Base Camp: It was great to hear that you were inspired to up your exercising. Keep it up! I am trying to just keep exercising some. Also you said it is getting to be winter there. Well, as Sunrise mentioned earlier, it is in the 90's here in Texas. We are no way close to winter and probably will not be for several months.

Almastar & Sunrise: I am a native Texan, born and raised in and around Houston. Where are each of you located?

Katrina update -- I am happy to report that 3 of the major shelters have been consolidated into 1 (I don't think anyone is still in the Astrodome, they have been moved into Reliant Arena). So misplaced LA residents are either joining relatives, being taken into individual homes, are finding their own homes/apartments or going back to their own homes. The shelters do not need as many volunteers, but the Salvation Army & Food Bank are still asking for help, so I am going into the "Army" this week!

Everyone going to Chicago: I hope you enjoy yourselves as much as we did in MB.

hey PRARIE CRITTER this is for you; "many ancient myths and stories speak of a magical time and place in which there were no boundaries between humans and animals. Animals and humans spoke. Wild and tame had no meaning. And always the divine revealed itself in Nature" from
"Animal Speak". Coyote: "KEYNOTE: Wisdom and Folly; CYCLE OF POWER: Year-round. There is always hidden wisdom where the coyote is concerned. in many ways the coyote is to the plains Indians what the raven is to the people of the Northwest -- creator, teacher, and keeper of magic. Both are playful and love to have fun. Both are siillful, but often look for ways to do things that will not involve the use of their own skill. They often look for sortcuts. they remind us not to become too serious, and that anything is possible." coyote is comparable to the Court Jester of olden days;..." the image of the wise fool has been used in the lore of many societies. This is the individual who seems to be a simpleton and yet the words and actions have a greater wisdom than is initially recognized. Are you not seeing the wisdom of your life and its events? The coyote will help you. Coyote's have a very close-knit family unit. they will sometimes mate for life. The father is very conscientious and participates in the care and raising of the young. Both parents train the young in hunting rechniques. The male cares for the mate while she is pregnant, helping to protect and feed her. If something does happen to the mother, then the male takes over the care of the young. The coyote will often use cooperative hunting techniques. The chase ooccurs in relays...This kind of cooperation hints at the energies that coyote can bring to your life -- an ability to stimulate cooperation to accomplish important tasks in the most efficient manner. Those people who have coyote as a totem require a lot of mental stimulation"
SUNRISE: my daughter is starting up a business from home, hats, bags and accessories...you could order a customized hat from her, although i suppose it would be just as easy to courier a hat from Colorado as Vanc. As soon as i figure out how to attach photos from my files i will try and post some of her creations. (or we could just give you instructions on how to make your own for fun one, using a paper plate, u know the kind we used to make at those frilly female baby-shower parties...i, in fact was thinking that someone should throw RR a senior bachelor party, and make HIM dress up in a silly hat!

lol lol lol lol and more lol, thanks SOFT RAIN, )ops, there goes one of my endorphines...I guess it's true, blonds DO have more fun...even when it is at their own expense! -- i feel ten years younger, hah hah
LADY BASE CAMP; you could even put a little nutmeg in your latte; i also add just the tinyest pinch to vegetable or even meat soups. it is amazing how it ever to subltly enhances the flavour...you just need a very very small amount..sweet basil is my most favourite herb, i use it all the time in almost everything, and lots of it. drying might be better than freezing, but i'm not sure of your climate. i would place some paper towels on top of some newspapers on a tray and then place the basil leaves on the paper towel and leave in a moderate dry place for a couple of days. then you could freeze them after that, or store in a glass jar. i have never frozen or dried them before, but i have done parsley that way, i'm not sure if you would get the same results with basil. I have a really old book on freezing almost everything that i got when i was in England, but i don't know where it is. if i can find it i will look it up, but i bet you could find some info. on this on the Net.

well, sigh-ah-nara and nighty-night, i have scripted enough for one weekend...

Hello Ladies,

How could one get a group photo on a ferris wheel???? The carousel photo sounds like an awesome idea. Besides would Richard ride a ferris wheel since he's not too keen on heights???

Speaking of ferris wheels, my favorite is the Prater in Vienna, Austria. It was built either early last century or late 19th century. It's huge, one of the biggest in the world. The 'carts' look like old train carts or compartments so you are indoors with windows all around. You can see all of Vienna from the Prater.

Droma, I feel like a "dumkopf" not knowing the German title for "The Merry Widow". It's one opera I haven't sung in.

Speaking of music a friend and I went to see one of my other friends perform in the musical "Miss Saigon" here in San Diego. There were some intense moments in the show. For those of you who don't know the show, it is loosely based on Puccini's "Madama Butterfly". "Miss Saigon" takes place during the fall of Saigon in 1975 and then 3 years later in 1978. I know that Richard is planning to take one of the lucky ladies to SE Asia to include Vietnam. Seeing the show piqued my interest in Vietnam.

It's so cool that Cheryl and Leslie got to meet and have a sumptious dinner and lots of laughs. This Blog is an adventure in itself! There are ladies coming out of the woodwork everywhere. I wonder where the ladies from England are that I met at MB???

I'll have to get my "Aida" football helmut scanned so I can put it up on the Crazy Hat Page when it gets set up.

Lady Base Camp, I forgot where you live? Is it in the "Great White North" of Canada?

Linda in Tucson, I'm curious whose pic you put up in Paula's spot? I love it! Big hair and big boobs, what more could a man want???? LOL Also love the purple hat!!!

Night Nite to you all,
Lois

Thanks.I love those kinds of stories. On occasion, I will be sitting in my front room with the door open. Full screen door closed of course, when this cyote comes along. He will look straight at me, give alittle woof-oooowww and then check out the bowl. He often will pick up a piece of something and carry it away. Shortly he will return and do the same thing.Acording to your post, I bet he is feeing his mate amd family.Thank you so much for the insight. I love animals. Large or small, tame or wild. I have a big, and I mean big, ole owl that will sweep down my drive when I come home. He can be pretty intimidating as his wing span is as wide as my drive. He sweeps low and fast and at the last second, glides up over the car. He then circles around and sits in the tree by the end of the garage until I pull in and close the door.If I sit out on my deck at night, he will sit in a nearby tree and we will hoot back and forth. He won't do it if ther is anyone else with me. Have a marvelous week.

RECIPE FOR SUCCESS
By Madge Blake

“Develop the hide of a rhinoceros and add a little rubber to your diet so you can bounce back if you get knocked down…”

PS- I thought this might be a good time to add a different type of recipe (although not as tasty as the previous edibles!). It’s from my sweet grandmother who gave this advice to a group of young aspiring actors trying to break into showbiz, which she did after raising my Dad and his brother (alone, during the depression,no less) in her late 40’s. She was “discovered” by Fanny Brice while acting in a play at the Pasadena Playhouse (I REMEMBER MAMA). Fanny Brice waited for my grandmother after the performance and gave her the name of her agent (how lucky can you get?)…
With a lot of hard work, good luck, & great timing, she worked as a character actress throughout the 50’s & 60’s performing 100’s of roles in theatre, movies, and television (google Madge Blake)…
My grandmother passed away in 1969, and her last memorable TV role was “Aunt Harriet” on the original Batman series.
She loved her work, life, and PEOPLE, and she was exactly the same off screen as she was on. A sweet, gracious, generous, kind, warm, witty, humble, and intelligent “LADY.” She was a wonderful role model and had a profound influence on my life, although I had no idea at that time how my future was to unfold…
Ironically, her “recipe” came in handy when I landed a professional ice skating career which eventually spanned 22 years (not including the 10 years of training in ballet, gymnastics, ICE, and other sports prior to my first contract (at age 17) touring with the Ice Capades.
I wonder if she knew then that adding rubber to my diet would save me from the 100’s of times I would have to "bounce" (ouch!) back after getting knocked down (I skated Adagio with 11 different partners). I think the only crucial ingredient that she left out of the recipe was a helmet, although in those days the producers were more interested in glamour than they were in our safety (still are, I’m sure)…Alas!
Please forgive me for rambling on here about ME… The FULL MOON keeps me up at night and I love to write. I live alone here in Las Vegas, and feel that you women are the family/sisterhood I have been searching for… Thank you all for supporting each other, although I know you have no idea how much you mean to me as well...
My gypsy life has made it difficult to grow roots, marry, or have a family. I’ve worked and traveled all over the US and Canada, mostly performing. But in between shows and partners, I’ve learned many other unusual occupations to survive on my own, adding some spice, challenge, and balance to this crazy life and the bigger picture.
I am rather shy and modest by nature, which made performing in front of 1,000’s quite difficult for me (Madison Square Gardens, Radio City Music Hall, etc). A mental exercise I quickly developed was pretending that the audience was focused solely on my partner (who was ALWAYS so much more handsome than I)!!!
A most unusual life I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams…. I look forward to learning more about each of you as this journey unfolds…
Hey! The spectacular FULL MOON is STILL beaming in the western sky and it is just after 6:00 in the morning… Time to RUN!
Sending LOVE to ALL of YOU...

wow, Shy Sakter....What an interesting blog...I am so impressed. Are you coming to Chicago?? I can't imagine not ever marrying since I married at 16 for 8 years, 11 years to #2, 23 years to #3 and 3.5 to #4...This is the longest I've been single...I moved out Sept. of 2003 so I've lived alone 2 years..had 3 guys that talked marriage in this last 2 years but if there is another I'm going to make sure God is first with us both, each other and family next and traveling 3rd. I feel closer to God on the lake fishing than even in church. Hopefully I've matured enough at age 64 to make sure(if possible) the last one is compatible. I'm a Scorpio and my husband that died was Virgo and we had a happy and fullfilling 23 years. I adore ice skating. The ice capades will be here in Oct. The last one I went to was Pocahaunus...Delightful. I'm in Tulsa. Is there anymore Okies out there in Richard land???

Richard, do you really have a pinched nerve??? Since I'm a result of Oprah's rerun I've been trying to review the old blogs and stuff and I see where nurses are sending you remedies but I don't see where you ever have mentioned it. I still have lots more to read about you tho. Take care.

Richard and Joe - Thanks for the e-mail with updates on the Chicago party. It all sounds very exciting to a small-town Midwest gal who doesn't make it to the big city very often. I have used Netflix before and thought their service was great. It was very easy to get on-line and create your list of movies. When you mail a movie back, Netflix just automatically sends you the next one on your list. That way you always have a movie available. Well, I must start working on my crazy hat. It is going to take some doing to keep in the running with others on this blog. They are so creative.

Linda in Tucson - what a sense of humor. I have to get on the blog two or three times a day just to keep up with your antics and pictures! I think you are the blog queen. Keep up the good work.

Paula in Florida - I think you are running a close second to Linda. I have really enjoyed your postings also and appreciate your letting Chi-Town girl know that I was out of town for the weekend. I e-mailed her when I returned and gave her my flight information. She is going to give me a ride from the airport on Thursday afternoon. We will talk later on in the week. I'm really looking forward rooming with you in Chicago.

Chi-Town - Thanks again for agreeing to pick me up at the airport. You are a very special lady!

HELLO ALL....................,WOW a person misses one day here and it can take forever to catch up!

Glad to see everyone is getting physced for Chicago. Looks like Richard and Joe are cooking us up a blast.

Joe................I'm confused. I hope that fact that my living here and offering to pick up people from the Airport or making suggestions is not causing some conflicts or misunderstandings on your or Richards part. I am just the kind of person who help's out when I can. The fact that I would like to save the ladies cab fare if possibble seemed logical to me since I am in a position to help them.(airport pick-up)
My comment re-garding "Starbucks" was only meant as a joke ,(can you imagine me trying to carry 100 cups of coffee?!)and in no way would that stop any of the ladies from wanting to breakfast with RR. At first I thought it was just me reading the comment wrong, but I've recieved some feedback asking why you seemed upset with me. If I am wrong then please accept my apology in advance. I guess as someone who loves her city,(except the winters) is just excited about having everyone coming here, just as Richard loved showing off his town too.

NOW FOR A GIGGLE.................

Walking through San Francisco's Chinatown, a tourist from the Midwest was fascinated with all the Chinese restaurants, shops, signs and banners.

He turned a corner and saw a building with the sign Moishe Plotnik's Chinese Laundry.

" Moishe Plotnik?" he wondered. "How does that fit in Chinatown?"

So he walked into the shop and saw a fairly standard looking Chinese laundry. He could see that the proprietors were clearly aware of the uniqueness of the name as there were baseball hats, T-shirts and coffee mugs emblazoned with the logo "Moishe Plotnik's Chinese Laundry." There was also a fair selection of Chinatown souvenirs, indicating that the name alone had brought many tourists into the shop.

The tourist selected a coffee cup as a conversation piece to take back to his office. Behind the counter was a smiling old Chinese gentleman who bowed and thanked him for his purchase.

The tourist asked, "Can you tell me how this place got a name like 'Moishe Plotnik's Chinese Laundry'?"

The old man answered, "Ahh... evelybody ask me that. It name of oh-nah."

Looking around, the tourist asked, "Is he here now?"

"He light heah," replied the old man. "He is me."

" Really? But you're Chinese. How did you ever get a name like Moishe Plotnik?"

"It velly simple," said the old man. "Many, many year ago, when I coming to Amelika, I standing in line at Immiglashun Centah. Man in flont of me was Jewish man from Porand. Lady at countah look at him and say, "What your name?"

He say, "Moishe Plotnik."

Then she look at me and say, "What your name?"
I say, "Sam Ting."

MAKE IT A WONDERFUL DAY EVERYONE

The boy replied, "Not exactly, but they aren't for brother. He's four. We saw on TV that if you use these you would be able to swim and ride a bike. He can't do either one."

Dear anon.......................
First off, never at any point have I alluded to the fact that RR or Joe have asked me to help, I only said I offered.

Yes it is in my city, soooooooo.

There are plenty of women who went to MB that did not send in an entry. Also there are women coming to Chicago who have not, besides ME.
Richard himself has spoken to the "phenomenon" of how so many women have made connections here and we have chosen to meet one another. We are also in complete support of the ladies who have chosen to do so and wish to cheer them on!

As to your statements re-garding my 'not being nice" as an understatement I take issue with that. I have expressed my doubts, concerns and skepticism yes, but I believe "I" have never been the "only" one to do so.
There were even women who went to MB who felt that way and returned with a different opinion.
I believe Richard has had no problem addressing issue's re-garding himself and has shown he can take care of himself. Also I belive it has been sometime since I have had as you say "not been nice" in regards to "RR"

To answer your question as to "MY" identity, I have spoken to people here from the blog, corresponded with them and even purchased a magnificent piece of jewelry from one of them so my "identity" is not secret, but if it makes you feel better. my name is "Francesca".
I know Richard is aware of that becuse I had an e-mail I sent him so there was no hiding my identity.
On the other hand, you, "ANON" have no identity and obviously choose not to have one here. You are saying you are a friend of RR's, but I must say you do sound like another ANON we have had trying to stir up problems.
I also find it bad taste to mention someones name as an acussation to their identity.

If you can't use your name you shouldn't divulge someone else's.

On this note I will say that we have been tryiny to ignore "not nice" ANON comments and I apologize to everyone out there for having done so. I just don't think I was doing anything wrong by getting excited about everyone coming to Chicago.

JOE..........thank you, I can tell you I am excited as much as the gals who are traveling here.
I can completely understand your goals and can imagine the work you must be doing to have to handle and arrange all this long distance.
I say this becuse I have a very good friend who's buisness for 22yrs. was a "Meeting Planner". She worked with many corporation's /companies setting up their meet's and conventions. To make a long story short, it was exhausting and stressful work.

OK, NOW BACK TO THE FUN,

Hi Ladies,

I don't know if it is because I am hungry right now, but my mouth is watering after nearly finalizing the details of the dinner for Thursday, September 29th for the EARLY ARRIVALS! Stay tuned for the details and be sure you are hungry.

Also, VERY IMPORTANT. The restaurant is going to need RSVP's from those who are planning to go to dinner that Thursday evening. I'll have those details as well shortly.

Aloha to All,

Just finished working my b*** off at the gym getting ready to head over to the beach, pool, and spa. It is sooo lovely here. Yep, Richard maybe even a bit nicer that MB! Sat in a chaise right at the seawall last night, fullmoon, watching the waves, and the people strolling by. That was about 10 pm, lovely breeze blowing. Gawd it was perfect.

My sister and I are going to tear it up a bit while we are here. But not too badly *grin* NOT like a hurricane "Debby and Gayle" (her name). Just feel very blessed to be here.

Hope all is well with my MB buddies, Richard and Family, and Joe and Family.

Huggers,

Deb

Dearest Richard and Wonderful Friends I have met because of you,

"On a clear day, smile and look around you,--"

Yes, 1681 miles later, I am back from yet another, smile from head to toe, Time of my life!!!!! Nothing went wrong!!! Actually we were back early Sat afternoon but had had such a wonderful time that we retraced another 363 miles to take significant others back to Tombstone and do some celebration partying. Some of us rode our bikes and some brought their non outdoors type wifes in their cars. Those memorable party pictures are on my other camera and I don't have time to transfer them just yet.

All I have time for at this writing is Go for your dreams! Wonderful things will happen along the way!!!!!

This last Open Road adventure for me,("darn tootin I"ll do it again") I hope, is just another reminder (And the gift of another whole new book for me to write) that life is for experiencing with the gift of Adaptability and an Open Mind.

Only 3 of our initial group of 5 made it to this grand hotel in Douglas to savor it's history and craftsmanship dating back to the late 1800's. As you might notice, it too has a beautiful marble stair case that Concho Via actually used to ride his horse up to the balcony on, during one of his Spanish Invasions. Standing there we could almost almost invision that Noise and Riot. (I am so lucky to have been born when and where I was)(we have the internet)

This blog sight is not the place for me to go on about my adventures, but it is the place to share Hopes and Experiences.

Before going to MB, I asked many of my friends "How I might I be remembered/noticed by Richard, out of SO MANY WONDERFUL WOMEN" I was told and retold to "JUST BE MYSELF and HAVE FUN. THAT WAS WHAT I DID BEST" And "What will be, will be."

Richard, thank you for all of your dedicated work.
Ladies, enjoy the process. You will gain more insite. ---Look around you and you"ll see who you are

Because Chicago and the Mid West are my upbringing, I know you are in for a GREAT time!!! "Smile as you look around you"

Even if it is an unclear day or night, you can make it a Great One.

Love as if there is no tomorrow.

Hey Joe Thanks for the noncommittal on the answer to my question. LOL. I doubt that I will wait around any longer for the response of what goes on any further with this competition. It seems that the age old problem of getting the answers when we want them is not in Richards plans or maybe then again it is. GRIN

As far as you being in the room, I'm not sure what you are referring to. I've always said that Richard not only remembered me by Desertflowers but he also knew my last name and pronounced it correctly which few do. It's very difficult to see someone for the first time and recognize them fully especially when there are 100's of beautiful women gathering at the meeting places.

Good Luck everyone
Hugs Suzanne

Oh the days of the original shows such as batman. I have two brothers, so I grew up watching all those show. I loved Batman. I remember your Grandmother, as Aunt Harriet so well. Such a classic.
La Dole Vida,
Francesca is such a beautiful name. I love Starbucks pumpkin spice latte. I must implore you though... DO NOT....I repeat DO NOT allow me to drink a caffinated one I made that mistake this past Saturday and was awake most of the night. I rarely drink anything caffinated for very good reason. The ccoffe dude had made a mistake and the line was so long, I did not want to make him redo it. I am sure Joe and Mr. Roe appreciate all the help you have so graciously given them.

PS,
The times I was on OPRAH, prior to 1997, her shows did not air the day they were shot and not everything that was shot or even what the live audience saw was in the final TV production.

I'm out of here for the day. My e-mail is posted on my sight if anyone wants it.

Hello Richard, Joe, and ladies of the blog:
I enjoyed the newsletter today and getting more and more excited as the Chicago trip approaches. I am still looking for someone to share my room. I have a double booked for Thurs, Fri and Sat nights. Either call me at 618-463-2116 or e-mail lkpotter@sbcglobal.net!!
I talked to Rob and made my reservation for the dinner cruise. Someone asked about dress for the cruise, I read on the site that it can be formal!!! The only thing I wonder, are we going to ride the carousel in our formal wear!!! We could, I'm game!!!
The weekend sounds like it is going to be a blast!!! I can't wait to meet everyone.
Cheers!!

I love the idea about discussing movies and films....one of my favorite wintery things to do! I too have long been a Netflix fax. No 'late' fees and I like the critical reviews of films. My first career was a movie manager with 35 mm and 70 mm films! Part of my job was splicing trailers (previews) and threading up the films. Thursday evenings after the last show 'dropped' (and the audience had left), was the time the 'kids' and I got to watch the new film bonanza for Friday. However most were American films and so I had to make 'trades' with my other local theatre managers to see foreign films.

Last evenings film was a film based in South Africa called 'In My Country' with Samuel Jackson and Juliette Binoche. Great actors in their own. The film opened my eyes to a lot of history that I had forgotton (1994 apartheid healing). It was also a wonderful film in cultural diversity and the ocean of difference between African Americans and the African people. Skin color does NOT make for same!

Next up is 'Against the Ropes' with Meg Ryan who stars as a boxing manager. She becomes head of the International Female Boxers Association.

Anyone else love film?

honestgal I have to
fes up to being a movie addict,
but it's a healthy addiction!!
I'm a visual person!!! I love
movies filmed in foreign locals,
that satisfy my wanderlust to
a 'minute' degree. But also like topi-
cal films and as a balance...really
black humor films or just plain silly
laugh out loud movies...That's a range..
what's left? westerns?
Recent faves...Chumscrubber, Hustle and
Flow, Constant Gardener,
I wasn't so wild about Meg in the boxing
movie...her lips were so distracting and
her quirky style not right for the part. It
was a good premise though!! Girl power!!

RR Other than POP&ME,
what's your favorite movie?

HONESTGAL....................., here in Chicago many of us have a favorite winter pastime, it goes like this:
1.PUT ON BOOTS, COAT, GLOVE, HAT, SCARF, ETC.
2.IF NO GARAGE, GET SCRAPER AND SHOVEL AND START TO WORK.
3.DRIVE TO NEIGHBORHOOD MOVIE RENTAL AND STOCK UP!!!!!!!
4.GO TO GROCERY STORE. STOCK UP ON ALL THE GOOD STUFF,IE; ICE-CREAM, PIZZA'S COOKIES CANDY, POPCORN, CHIP'S,TWIZZERLER'S, POP'S(SODA'S,:D)etc.
5.GET BACK IN CAR, SLIP AND SLIDE ALL OVER THE PLACE.WHEN YOU GET BACK HOME IF YOU DON'T HAVE A GARAGE PRAY THAT YOUR SPOT ISN'T TAKEN ALREADY,(OR THE GUY NEXT DOOR HASN'T REMOVED YOUR PARKING SPOT SAVER/MARKER), YOU KNOW THAT DOOR SITTING BETWEEN THE 2 CHAIRS THAT KEEPS YOUR PLACE AS YOURS. LOL,LOLO,LOL. WE REALLY DO THAT HERE!
6.TAKE OFF THE 10 LBS. OF CLOTHES YOU HAD ON.
7.PUT ON PJ'S, PLOP YOUR BUTT DOWN ON COUCH OR BED. PLACE ALL GOODIES PURCHASED IN ARM'S REACH.
8. PLACE MOVIE IN VCR/DVD AND RELAX.
BEEN NOWN TO WATCH 6-8 MOVIES IN A 3 DAY SPAN.
My daughter and I use to do this on weekends when she was still living at home.
I STILL DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only differance is I don't have to go out to rent them. Been getting netflix for several years.

La Dolce: Had a hee-hee of your misery in the northern parts. But you have bang up museum(s) and to die for pizza in Chi-town!

Another great thing about Netflix, is you can share the great flicks with your friends, without worried about getting burned with late fees. Of course, they return the favor(!) When the word gets out that you can give some good advice on film - the word gets out. One of the nurses called wanting to know what films I recommended for the weekend; however at that moment I was running a code! Messy moments!

Flying mermaid: do you do any energy massage? Or cranial?

Sunni: Wish I could enjoy current films (love your list!). However I'll have to add them to my netflix queue. Have you watched 'thumbsuckers' yet?

I really enjoy films which are honest and true. Some of the content may be disagreeable; however if the writer/director was true to his/her purpose, the story shines through. "Crash" may not be 'pc' but it showed that we are ALL connected, whether we like it or not.

Hugs!
