Hello from Richard Roe
Hi Folks, My Portuguese is rusty so it has taken a while to read the instructions. I just posted a comment about a Newsletter about to come out and that Vicki has been great and a real trooper. Umberto is doing a fab job as you will see from the photo page. We hope to hear your feedback on the comments here, as we will have access to the computer going forward (I think). Lots more info to follow in a day or two. Ciao, Richard Roe

Good morning...I've never been first......Have a great day. Blessings, Mary in Snow country. Brrrrr
Hi Richard, Umberto & Vickie, we are really enjoying hearing about your magnificent trip. Keep all the info and photos coming. Glad your all having a wonderful time.
Nancy
Umberto Your pictures are incredible! I knew there were lots of species of birds in the Amazon, but I'm having trouble identifying that brave little yellow one...even with the 'Clementina' clue! Does she sing?
Richard and Vicki What an adventure! You two look like you're having SOOO much fun! What can you tell us about 'the witch' from the pictures? What was the skirt made of that the child was wearing...feathers? I'm anxious for the commentary!
Glad you're back in communication and have emerged umscathed from the jungle!!!
Must go snowblow the 8" of snow off the driveway...it's fun! Really!!!
Connie
Umberto your photography is SPECTACULAR !!!!!
Hi Richard, Vickie, and Umberto,
The photos are fantastic!!! You
all are having such an amazing
adventure!!! Vickie...I love your
jungle leaf outfits...Jane, where's Tarzan?
Seeing all of the wildlife must have been
incredible...were the pink dolphins wild?
Umberto...what length lens do you use for
the beautiful shots of the native children?
We can't wait to see where Clementina
takes you next!!!

I'd love to go to Malta, too!!!
I haven't been to that many
Mediteranean countries, but
am glad I went to Libya before
it becomes the next "hot" destination.
The big cruise ships are already stopping
in Tripoli!!!
We had a teenage girl in the group, who
adored the wild jeep rides in the desert,
and was really up on her Greek and Roman
history...so I'd say it was a fine place to take
older kids!!!
Cheers,
Sunni
reetings to you Richard, How wonderful it is to be sharing this journey with you from this visual perspective. I wont to express in my own words what a wonderful message of encouragement you are sending out to people both male and female who have been labled seniors weather they are married or single. Your pictures show that new beginnings are a matter of the mind and attitude. Fun and excitement are not monopolies for the young. With just a change of attitude, ugly can become beautiful,The chronilogical calender can be reversed by attitude. You are helping a lot of people see that attitude is more powerful in life than title,it can cause homeliness to be attractive. Your self image is portraid in your beat the odds attitude. Your victorious smile is contageous. I predict that your efforts to share all of this with others will make you highly esteemed in the legacy you leave behind. By the way Vickie is a complement to your southern gentlemen ethics and your Indiana behavoral portrail. Congratulations on your choice . Mary from Oklahoma
The photos are great! Looks like so much FUN!!
Howdy U3 Muskeers :)
La Dolce Vida!
UMBERTO: the photographs of the Amazonian Children are priceless
there is one particular child that stands out, the young girl dressed in a pink top, she is so beautiful and going to be a magnificent looking young lady one day, for sure Miss World Material! She is standing next to Viki in one of the pictures. An irridescent glow emanates from the children through their smiling faces :) love it!!!
RICHARD: now why does it NOT surprise me that you would find the Amazon's Medicinal Plants fascinating. I have a Medicine Woman friend who is very familiar with the natural plant rememdies and used to grow Herbs/Plants in her garden solely for Medicinal use, she has since moved and now is an Aromatherapist(love her Aromatherapy Massages, especially when she uses Murrh and Frankincense Oils(my favourite concoction!)
Richard are you familiar with Carlos Casteneda's Books? My favourtie is the first 'The Teachings Of Don Juan' fascinating to say the least. You remind me a bit of Carlos as he was VERY adventurous and interested in Medicinal Plants growing in the Sonora Desert, which was his Thesis whilst attending UCLA in the sixties! The rest is history when he met the Yaqui Indian Don Juan when he visited the Sonora Desert to research for his Thesis!
That is another story and a mystery that has also 'haunted' me on my Spiritual Quest as much as I tried my best to avoid getting into the Carlos Casteneda 'maelstrom' that people seemed to 'fall in to', it seemed to come looking for me, not me it ;) but then again, that is how Life works, don't go looking for something, it will find YOU when YOU are worthy of it, referring also to LOVE of course ;)
'nuff said for now ;)

Thanks for sharing the trip. The pics are fantastic. I'm enjoying following along as the Journey continues.
Thanks, Richard, for starting this and raising awareness that there are some fun and desirable ladies over the age of 50.
Vikki, you seem to be a lot of fun. Congrats on making it to the finals. After reading of some of your adventures (spiders and snakes, oh my), I say you are truly brave.
Have a blast. Wish I were with you all.
Enjoy!
CC-Pat
Richard and Vicki I'm sure you'll laugh at me...but I can't check out the photos until I get someone else to look at them and tell me what pages the snake pictures are on. BIG phobia! Anyway, will let you know what I think after someone "edits" them for me. Have fun - I'm off to a staff Xmas dinner (like I don't see enough of them as it is LOL)
Finally...You both look like you are having a BLAST!! I think my favorite part, so far, is the pink dolphins and the children. Umberto did himself proud with all his work...but the ones of the children are ethereal.Vic,
I can't believe you are afraid of spi--rs.I'm embarassed to say I have the same phobia..Had it since a bad childhood thing...still gives me the willies!!! We'll have to talk about this in Vegas.Umberto's photos leave me breathless..and the ones of you...Vic, you look gorgeous! 'course, that's probably because you are!!! I miss you girl...just found out that Tam,you and I are going to be in the DEEEELUXE suite together...WHEEEE!!Alaska will never be the same. Going will be a dream come true for me...like the trip coming up with Richard...DREAM COME TRUE...I feel like Cinderella(pinch, pinch). I'm with you Richard, love the medicinal properties of nature. It's the path I take, on the rare occasion I don't feel well. Today it has poured rain, snowed, rained again and then snowed with thunder and lightening..I've NEVER seen that before!! I'm frozen...but glad that you are both warm and enjoying each other and the adventure you are having together. Missing you...Stay safe...Gael
Leslieand all snake and spider phobes
The snake is on Photo page 9 and the tarantula is on Photo page 10.
The photos are excellent and give a great view of the Amazon Jungle so just skip those two pages if snakes and spiders give you the heebie jeebies. Be sure to look at the rest as they are really worth looking at!! Vicki is a gas!
She's a real Jane of the jungle!!
Vicki....you go girl!!
Thanks love2travel I was able to look at the photos with ease - just skipped page 9. The tarantula didn't bother be a bit. In our house, daughter #1 tells me when the snakes are gone on Survivor and I tell her when the spiders are gone. We have a great system going.
Anyway, GREAT shots! I especially love the photos of the pink dolphins! What an adventure to be able to swim with them!
So, Richard, I'm rather taken by the grizzled look. "grin" Watch out, Vicki snakes be damned - I may just parachute into that there jungle and feed you to the crocodiles! LOL Have fun, guys! :D
Good Morning Travelers!
I am so enjoying living vicariously through all the wonderful pictures! I know displaying the pictures is taking a tremendous amount of time, but I'm going to "push the envelope" and ask if you could periodically add some commetns so that those viewing can learn more--such as what type of dance were you doing, was the paint on the children significant, ie. what did it "mean".
Thank you for giving all of us the opportunity to share your adventure!
Jo-an'
Good Morning Ladies,
Our adventurers are back from the deep dark jungle. Yeah, right! Did you see the photos of the Ariau Resort? Those tree house cabins even had A/C! Good for them. Click here for more info about this amazing place.
I wonder if Vicki had to swing from the vines to get to dinner? What would be good "vine swinging" etiquette? Would Richard be expected to let Vicki swing first or should he swing first and clear out the snakes and spiders. Will have to check my "Miss Manners" for that.
And Vicki, bridges and their respective fences are not an invitation to "dangle"- okay!!
Jo-an, yes, captions will follow. I'm sure you can imagine the logistics of the travelers and the access to the internet. It's problematic but they'll do their best they can do with filling in the blanks. The Newsletters should help to do that as Richard, Umberto and Vicki generally spend more time on that.
Umberto loads the photos via an FTP connection which usually requires a high speed connection- rare to find at times with this itinerary. Once loaded, we have an online tool to create the captions. All this takes quite a bit of time. But I know how you feel. I'm dying to know about that very cute pink dolphin!!
Mary, wonderful thoughts. You are living proof of all that!
Sunni, how did you fly into Libya?
Gael, I have it on good authority that Chile and Argentina have all sorts of spiders and snakes too! Cover your eyes, Leslie.

Hi ho Richard & Vickie
WOW! What a f*ing blast!
I love the pictures!!
Clementine is an absolute hoot and I can't wait to see where she shows up next...how funny!
Vickie me being the girlie girl that I am I can't help but notice what you are wearing here and there....how on earth did you pack for this trip? Looking good...you go girl!
I must ad that I am glad I and am here and someone else is "there" but I'm enjoying living it vicariously!
GREAT PHOTOS!
HI ALL!!!!
glad everyone is in such great spirits......

Umberto ----- are you coming to Canada one of these days? still have a big crush on you.... just crush :-)has cupid hit you yet?
JoeinMB- ------ still the right hand man huh? i wish you and your family good health and good wealth.
I am off to find the perfect outfit (yeah right!??) for the christmas party tonight.... i am ready to boogey woogey with anyone who would dance the night away with me.....
Hi All, Thanks for the great participation on the blog. We all love to hear your comments.
As I knew, there will be some snafus and the first one was yesterday. After leaving the incredible Ariau Amazon Towers (I think I may offer some trips there and I'll be the "tour director") we had a flight from Manuas to Sao Paulo then to Salvador, and the Salvador part was cancelled so we spent the night in Sao Paulo but know in Salvador.
A few close friends of mine know that I have a little company (really little-just me) called Where In The World Do You Want To Go, and I make all of the arrangements and escort the small group to see all goes well. Anyway, have to run will comment again soon. Best to all, Richard
Oops, I was not able to spell check and saw that I meant to write now, but wrote know. Ciao, RR
Hi JOE
I can't wait to see Warm

Tomorrow night, right? On

Re: Flying in to Libya...I flew in from
London with my tour group, on BA. But
Alitalia has a great connection in from Milan,
via New York. I always prefer going through
Italy, any excuse to spend a night in MY
favorite country!!!
RR, Vic, & Umberto If I hadn't just
returned from Libya, I'd be on a plane to the
Amazon....you three make it look so much fun!
Sp*d*rs, sn*k*s, cr*cs,
who cares! I'm

linda in tucson,
Thanks for your comments. As for the clothes I packed `´rugged´` from REI and Wild Country. Richard likes `´tomboy´´ and all of their things work well in the jungle. The humidity was really high but it did´t really bother me much since I lived in Miami for over 30 years and am really used to it. But I did work up a real sweat with all the tree climbing and vine swinging! We were three ``gamey`` (sp) tourists when we left the jungle!!! I´ll NEVER get all the grass stains out!! Still having the time of my life!!! I´m a lucky girl!!
Vicki-in-Brazil
Gert,
My best friend from Miami!!! Im glad you found me!! Can you believe all that´s happened to me over the last year?? See, we can make our dreams come true if we just get out there and make them happen!! Thanks for being my ``best bud`` all these years and keeping me always having fun. I laugh every time I think of you! xoxo to all the kids and grandkids.
Vicki-in-brazil
Your first canceled flight. The odds are that there will be plenty more for the 6 month traveler. Don't they say that half the fun is getting there? Travel hasn't lost it's magic.
I hope you like the unexpected, it's what makes the world go around. Have a great trip and come back refreshed..
Hi Bloggettes -
I've been considering going on one of the Alaskan cruises, but haven't decided on which one. I could fit either one into my schedule, but was wondering which one would contain more bloggettes and/or people from the Chicago and MB events. Is there a way we could find out who's going when?
Perhaps Holland America could provide us with information about how many S.B. people (and maybe even how many single gentlemen!) would be traveling on each cruise.
It would be great to go on both cruises, but financially challenging for many of us.....

Hi all,
It's getting so interesting to follow the adventurers into unknown territory. Those photos are so fantstic and it is such a pleasure to be able to come right along with your trip. Fantastic idea to include all of us to share in it. They are so beautiful and the close ups are wonderful. We can't wait to see the next batch of photos.
You wouldn't want to know what the weather was doing here in Chicagoland.......we shovel our way and swear that we won't stay another winter.
Thanks for the talents of Umberto we are able to witness the beauty of the land and the peoples. And thanks to both of you, Richard and Vicki, for the first hand reporting.
We wish you lots of fun and just be safe.
Hugs,
Chandra
Hi Chandra! Too bad you have to shovel that white stuff. It was a gorgeous day here in Vancouver today - 3 degrees celcius with clear skies and sun giving us a beautiful view of the mountains lightly dusted with snow. I love days like this. I even got to visit my little grandson. We lay under the Xmas tree together looking at the lights while my daughter looked on remarking how she loved to do that when she was a little girl. Ahhh...the simple pleasures of life.
Nancy If I go on the cruise, I'll be going on the second one Aug 20-27. Do you need a roomie or were you just wondering who all was planning to go?
WOW! You guys are AWESOME!
There "ain't no such thing as TOOOOOOOOOO much FUN!" Pics are incredible... Umberto, you are
FABULOUS!!!!!
Spirits must be in-tuned as I was just in St. Maarten where I got to be with the dolphins.... Made me smile big-time as I saw your pics.
Half-way around the world and likes be-get likes!
Love the jungle pics. Always the little children and older folks intrigue me, even with my little digital. They tell such a story in their faces. Keep up the good work, U !!!!
Vicki, indeed you are a PERFECT PICK for the Amazon.. eating those slimey things??? I'm not sure about THAT! Otherwise, RR, what a perfect destination to start your journey!! Can't wait for the rest.
Also your "casual" hair style is much more becoming... Is it the Amazon that is bringing out the best in you?? Yes, Vicki, you are a lucky gal! And the other 5 ???
Hold on! YOUR turn next.
It is ALL of us who are lucky, too! For we have found friendships too numerous to count.
Getting booked on the Alaska cruise is a BIG one of our perks!
Is anybody having any luck getting guys to sign up? I sent out 12 invites. We gotta have some MEN to dance with --- RR may have his own "squeeze" by then -- good LUCK with all that "squeezin' by the way, RR!!!"
V, Keep looking as beautiful as you are! RR, you are amazing! By the time you get to Lori, you may have a beard like ole SANTA!!!
Umberto, want to move to CO??? :)
HUGS and SAFE JOURNEYS TO ALL in PEACE!!!!

Hi Leslie -
At this point, I have a tentative roomie for the cruise, but she's in the same quandary as I am - wondering how many are going on which cruise, so neither of us has made a decision yet.
We'll keep reading the blogs and hopefully more people will respond as to their plans.
Meanwhile, it's freezing here in Ohio!!!!!

Hello all - some sad news..
I have just received word from Carol that Wendy who was a fabulous finalist in MB with us and those of us in the second week had the pleasure of meeting, passed away this week from a stroke they think. Oh my gosh- she was the most vibrant, spirited and beautiful woman and we were all in awe of her energy and grace. Life is indeed too short and she was the essense of beauty and a sweet spirit. Shows me how precious life truly is and to enjoy every day and be thankful as she did indeed. Her memory will be cherished I am sure and her spirit will live on in those who had the pleasure of knowing her and through her family.
I am just shocked and sadden by this news and felt I needed to share tis so we can all please say a prayer for her family during this difficult time.
Paula
Paula, thank you for letting us all know. I have been sitting here for about 10 minutes now feeling sick to my stomache. Although I never met Wendy, I felt like I knew her a bit through this medium. I'm sure many others feel the same way. Her photos revealed a beautiful, brilliantly happy woman having the time of her life. May we always remember her that way. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, her friends, and with all you FFs who got to meet her.
Hello Everyone!
PAULA: I am shocked by this news of Wendy's Passing and send Love
and Light to ALL who had the pleasure of her company in Manhattan Beach.
Thoughts and Prayers go out to her Family, Loved Ones and Friends. Even though I did not have the pleasure of meeting her, following this incredible Sojourn of Richard's has kept me 'in the loop' so I feel what you all feel at this time.
We must remember to embrace each and every day for Life is fragile!
G-D Bless
In Love and Light
Valerie
p.s. Now sweet Wendy is an Angel looking down on all of us!
PAULA: Thank you for sharing about Wendy how sad. God works in strange ways. She could have been on a trip with RR in a strange country and just how frightening would that have been for all.
Please send our condolences to the family.
Sincerely,
Nancy
Cruise- Barbara and I will be going on the first on if that'll help. Hope we have some Bloggetts on that one, too.

THEN ALMITRA SPOKE, SAYING, WE WOULD ASK NOW OF DEATH.
AND HE SAID:
YOU WOULD KNOW THE SECRET OF DEATH.
BUT HOW SHALL YOU FIND IT UNLESS YOU SEEK IT IN THE HEART OF LIFE?
THE OWL WHOSE NIGHT-BOUND EYES ARE BLIND UNTO THE DAY CANNOT UNVEIL THE MYSTERY OF LIGHT.
IF YOU WOULD INDEED BEHOLD THE SPIRIT OF DEATH, OPEN YOU HEART WIDE UNTO THE BODY OF LIFE.
FOR LIFE AND DEATH ARE ONE, EVEN AS THE RIVER AND SEA ARE ONE.
IN THE DEPTH OF YOUR HOPES AND DESIRES LIES YOUR SILENT KNOWLEDGE OF THE BEYOND;
AND LIKE SEEDS DREAMING BENEATHE THE SNOW YOUR HEART DREAMS OF SPRING.
TRUST THE DREAMS, FOR IN THEM IS HIDDEN THE GATE TO ETERNITY.
YOUR FEAR OF DEATH IS BUT THE TREMBLING OF THE SHEPHERD WHEN HE STANDS BEFORE THE KING WHOSE HAND IS TO BE LAID UPON HIM IN HONOUR.
IS THE SHEPHERD NOT JOYFUL BENEATHE HIS TREMBLING,THAT HE SHALL WEAR THE MARK OF THE KING?
FOR WHAT IS IT TO DIE BUT TO STAND NAKED IN THE WIND AND TO MELT INTO THE SUN?
AND WHAT IS IT TO CEASE BREATHING BUT TO FREE THE BREATH FROM ITS RESTLESS TIDES, THAT IT MAY RISE AND EXPAND AND SEEK G-D UNENCUMBERED?
ONLY WHEN YOU DRINK FROM THE RIVER OF SILENCE SHALL YOU INDEED SING.
AND WHEN YOU HAVE REACHED THE MOUNTAIN TOP, THEN YOU SHALL BEGIN TO CLIMB.
AND WHEN THE EARTH SHALL CLAIM YOUR LIMBS, THEN SHALL YOU TRULY DANCE.

Leslie,
That is exactly how I feel and I can't control the tears and sadness. I am in disbelif and shocked. I can only imagine how her family will miss her since we only had a few days with her and she just inspired us all. She touched us in so many ways with her beautiful smile and sweet and caring soul.
Thank you all for your prayers. Please continue to pray..It does help to have friends praying during such times and that is why I felt everyone needed to know and keep her family in their thoughts and prayers. I am proud to have met her and blessed to have know her even for a moment.
Heaven does have a new angel. It is still unreal yet for me as I am sure it is double for her famly. She has 2 daughters and a twin sister and I am sure many other's who will miss her.
In memory of Wendy
The Rose Beyond the Wall
Near shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed
in God's free light,
Watered and fed by morning dew,
Shedding its sweetness day and night.
As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall,
Through which there shone a beam of
Light.
Onward it crept with added strength,
With never a thought of fear or pride:
It followed The Light
through the crevice-length
And unfolded itself on the other side.
The Light, the dew, the broadening view
were found the same
as they were before;
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing its fragrance more and more.
Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint and fall?
Nay! Let us faith and hope recieve;
The rose still grows beyond the wall.
Scattering fragrance far and wide,
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forevermore!
(From the writing of A.L. Frink)
Wendy you were a beautiful person and you are in our prayers. May you rest peacefully...We love you...
Jungle Jane
Please forgive me...poem phrase should read:
And make our courage faint or fall?
Jungle Jane
Paula...thank you for letting us know. I am so sad...Wendy was such a vibrant and kind person...I will miss her.
Jungle Jane
Paula,
Thanks for letting us know
the very sad news about
Wendy. I'm stunned that
one of our group has passed!
I went back to the photo page
to see her vibrant, lovely face.
My prayers are with all of you who met
her, and her family and friends are
in my thoughts, too.
Wow...I was coming to the blog to tell Joe what a great job he did on his house for HGTV. That convertible in front of the house, with the Merry Christmas sign looked alot like the one that Richard was driving at MB..(so who's car is it?!) It was such a fun show and alot of fun to see you and Nancy decorate the yard and house. HOLLYWOOD JOE!!!
Now I read the sad news about Wendy. So very sad. Like Leslie said, you feel like you got to know her a bit, seeing the pictures and reading her bio. Seeing the picture of her with her young daughter was the saddest. Prayers go out to Wendy's family at this time. Hopefully she didn't suffer much. It's just another in your face reminder to live life to the fullest...you never know when your time is up. Sad, sad, sad
Thank you Paula for letting us know about Wendy. How sad. Her family has my deepest sympathy and prayers during this time. Right here at the holiday season is such a sad time to loose our loved ones. God has a special angel with him this year!! Life is so short, we each need to live each day to the fullest and be thankful for each day we have.
Linda P.
I am so deeply saddened by the news of Wendy's passing. I just now heard about it and cannot believe it. Nancy and I spent some time with Wendy in Manhattan Beach and were deeply touched by her sensitivity and warmth. It's not surprising she was both a physical therapist and an accomplished water color artist. We are all blessed to have gotten to know such a kind spirit. God bless her and her family as she will be remembered in the prayers of her new extended family.
Allow Richard and me some time to speak with her family to see if we can collect some special photos of her and some samples of her artwork as well that we can share on a special tribute page to her.
-joe
I just received a message from Lori regarding Wendy's death.
How very sad.
Since we might all associate our "knowing" her in some way attached to the ocean near Manhattan Beach, I share the following poem I wrote in memory of another loved one who passed away just this past week also.
AMEN OF PEACE
2005, CarolLee Miles
As I look into the ocean
I feel you by my side
The day is filled with memories
AS surely as the tide
The sailboat mast is swaying
As clouds embrace the sky
I know that you are with us
To hear our mourning cry
Your time on earth is finished
As heaven becomes your home
Your gentle smile replenished
To share God's loving throne
You're with us now in Spirit
Our love will never cease
Your angel voice of mercy
Our sweet AMEN OF PEACE.
God bless all of God's children at this very tender time.
PeaceBlogette AKA CarolLee in CO
It is with enormous sadness that I felt when I heard the news about Wendy. I knew Wendy to be a devoted mother and a wonderful, giving person. We will await information from her children, and if appropriate, have more information. I just do not know what else to say. All of us who only knew Wendy could see the beauty and love this woman had for the world. Everyone who knew her will miss her. RR
just heard about the news about wendy. This search wouldn't have been complete without her. Don't know what else to say except I am truly sad....
Wendy will be missed.
As we turn our grief for the loss of Wendy's beautiful life into good grief, may she rest in peace.
Please extend our deepest sympathy to Wendy's family as we and they celebrate her life.
Dear Traveling Trio And Wonderful Blogers,
Great pictures, updates, adventures and opportunities!
I'm Looking forward to reading some of the background details as might be in the unfolding chapters of this story.
Anddddd, if you all happen to come accross an available alias, part time "Tarzan," give him my address. He is what I really want spending some time around my body.
We are still in cycle riding weather here. Another different view of so many lights enhansing the season.
These times go so fast for all of us!
Enjoy it as you flurish!
Happiness to ALL.

JOE and NANCY
I watched the HGTV special
last night and loved seeing
your HOLLYWOOD at XMAS
hyper lighted house, red carpet ready
with Santa in his Tux. Tell Nancy she looked
swingingly festive dancing with Santa.
As one of your neighbors said, "Only
the Franklins could do something so
wildly creative." You guys definitely win
Best Dressed House for the show, and
the OSCAR goes to...the Franklins!!!
And It would be really wonderful if you
could put up a special page in Memory
of Wendy, with photos of her art work, too.
You and RR are both so sensitive to immediately
think of doing that! I'm sure her family is in
shock, and the timing may not be quite
right, but the gesture is so heartfelt.

Hello Ladies,
I hope it doesn't appear insensitive that Richard and I are sending out the Newsletter without mentioning Wendy's passing. The newsletter was scheduled to go and we want to wait until we have some more details and permission from her family to mention it. We will devote a special newsletter just to Wendy when we have communicated with her family (Richard has already sent some emails) and have some materials put together.
I was rereading her bio on the website and had forgotten she was 64 years old (and soon to turn 65 right after Christmas.) You would have never guessed that if you met her. She was an accomplished watercolor artist. I'll ask her family if we can show some of her work. When Richard met with Wendy in Montecito this summer they met at a cafe and the comedian Jonathan Winters was there. He and Wendy were friends! In fact, I saw a watercolor she painted with Mr. Winters as the subject. Imagine the laughter they must have shared!
I've changed my blog photo of one of Nancy and Wendy recently in Manhattan Beach. Wendy was demonstrating her healing technique of "auraltherapy" of something like that which treated ailments via pressure points on the ears! Look at her smile.

Hi Again,
Just took some time to catch up.
I share the grief about Wendy, As I just wrote , "Life goes too fast!" My hospital is filled with people who hadn't planned their accidents or illnesses. It seems the rest of us are just paying ahead for when we need help, by what ever good we can do.
Only by coincidence, I have been spending a lot of the past week and a half with a clinicially depressed 43 year old tall tan Brizalian wife who survivied trying to end her own life by placing her arms on the running table saw. This was not her first attempt but could have been her last. She still has something or things important to do.
I saw the first real smile from her last night as she was passed by my parked big Honda scooter on route to the ambulance for her next hospital transfer. The adventure of learning to ride it (If I could do it) was an unexpected fun goal to work for. Her recovery may save someone's life she crosses as she unconsiously teaches and inspires people she'll probably never know. Our current job seems to be helping her hold on just a bit longer till more help arrives.
Each day counts as no one reading Richard's adventure is alone on an island. We share LIFE.
It is that we never know "Our Important parts" ahead. Wendy helped a lot of people be happy.
Even sleeping moments count.

"My First Christmas In Heaven"
I saw the countless Christmas trees around the world below, with tiny lights like heaven's stars, reflecting on the snow, The sight was so spectacular, please wipe away that tear,For I was spending Christmas at home with God this year.
I heard the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear,But the sounds of music can't compare with the Christmas choir up here.
I have no words to tell you,the joy their voices bring,
For it is beyond description to hear the angels sing.
I know how much you miss me. I see the pain in your hearts,But I am not so far away,we really aren't apart.
So be happy for me ,dear ones,You know I hold you dear. Be happy that I've spent my Christmas at home with God this year.
I send you each a special gift from my heavenly home above. I send you each a memory of my undying love.
So, keep your Christmas merry and wipe away that tear. Remember that I've spent my Christmas at home with God this year.

To Wendy's family: Mere words are totally insufficient to provide the comfort you need to see you through these times, but love sustains you until it all subsides. So I pray that you will receive our love and sympathy as best we can express. M.M. Corbett
Wow....the pictures are absolutely incredible! I must have looked at them 5 times already. Not only are you so fornutate to be on an adventure like this....you are even more fortunate to have a fabulous photographer with you to document the whole thing!!!!
I know they say "save the best for last" but I'm afraid that will not apply on this trip. It looks like the Amazon is going to be pretty tough to beat! I am so happy you are having so much fun...but I can't wait for you to get home so I can hear all about it in person!
I'm also happy to see that your adventurous spirit hasn't taken over your sense of humor. The Tarzan & Jane pictures cracked me up!
I'm sure you'll here from Keely, Sloan & Chase soon. I know Keely has been trying...she keeps calling me asking me questions. Maybe the 12th time will be the charm! Chase is home from school too.
Can't wait for the next round of pics! Love, Shay
MerryMary -
What a lovely poem you sent in memory of Wendy. I hope her family reads it and derives comfort from it.
A dear friend of mine passed away this year and so will be spending his 'first Christmas in Heaven' also. Reading the poem made me feel happy through my tears....
Thanks, Mary!

Hi Nancy.....I hope you go on the first cruise. My son and daughter in law are coming too but they'll be in their own room. I went ahead and got one on veranda deck so we could sit on the balcony and see the sights and have room service for breakfast.
M. M. Corbett in Tulsa...I live here too. You could email me at homz4u@sbcglobal.net and we could go for coffee sometime...or I'm in the new phonebook under Penquite, and Mary Bryan under the Penquite....I see a Corbett on N. Cincinati...would that be your number?? Mary
Anyone booked yet on the second cruise Aug 20-27?
To Wendy's family, please except my deepest sympathy.
This is a poem I came across,
LOVING WORDS
Sorry I didn't get to stay.
To laugh and run and play,
To be there by your side.
I'm so sorry that I had to die.
And I say to you please don't cry,
God sent me down to be with you,
to make your loving heart anew.
To help you look up and see,
Both a loving God and me.
I really wish I could of stayed.
Just like I heard you pray.
But, all the angels would cry,
if they had to tell me goodbye.
God didn't take me cause He's mad.
He didn't send me to make you sad.
But to give us both a chance to be
a love so precious, don't you see?
Up here no trouble do ever I see
and the pretty angels sing to me.
Paved streets of gold,
is where I stroll,
one day you'll come here too.
Until the day you join me,
My love to you I send.
Each breeze you feel and see,
shall bring a loving kiss
from me to thee.

I'm trying to catch up with all of you...I was so saddened to hear about Wendy's passing. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting her, and after reading all of your comments, I'm sorrier for the loss. There isn't much in this life that I'm certain of... but...I'm absolutely Certain that Wendy is in a place of no pain. That all of the things that come to us in life, in little bits and pieces.... Love, security, peace, perfect health,warmth,serenity...Wendy now has all of those wonderful feelings all at the same time and they will never be taken away...Wendy is living in her perfect world. My heart goes out to her family and all of you whose hearts hurt. xxoo Gael PS. The First group(10) at MB will be taking the Aug. 20 to Alaska...hope that helps..G

Hello all,
I wanted to express my shock and sadness at the news of Wendy's passing. Thank you, Paula, for making an announcement that I'm sure was devastating to you and others. Wendy seemed to be the epitome of what we all hope our life can be; a loving heart, a giving life, and an unbridled spirit! May God grant her serenity and peace; my prayers to her family. Thank you, Joe, for sharing her lovely picture with us.

Haaaa I really enjoyed your newsy bit in the Newsletter!! I'm so glad to hear you had a toilet...I had visions of a hole open to 45 ft below....HAAA The pool and jacuzzi sound so nice for the jungle! You paint such a visual picture...I can just see that tarantula coming down a stick toward your face....now that's a memory of the Jungle for you!! Or getting tangled up with a monkey in your hair, snakes, spiders, dolphins, crocodiles...What an adventure!!!
THANKS FOR SHARING THE FUN!!

Tribute to Wendy
The first thing Umberto said to me yesterday was that I looked sad.....he had not yet heard of Wendy´s passing. It was a rough day for all of us.
Although I did not know Wendy personally I had heard only the kindest, sweetest comments about her from the other finalists. (Thanks Paula for sharing) Her energy and youthful spirit can only inspire all of us to live our lives to the fullest each and every day for we just never know God´s plan for us. Only ``the best´´ are called before their time.
My heart goes out to her two daughters, and the friends and family who truly loved her and appreciated her uniqueness and warm spirit. I know they will all miss her terribly.
Let Wendy live indirectly through all of us as we enjoy and live life to the fullest with great zest and passion. May God bless and keep her as she now paints all of our sunsets......
With loving thoughts and prayers,
Vicki
Nancy in Ohio, my cab buddy, what a wonderful thing you said and I would like to use it for those I also lost his past year. Wendy will be spending her" first Christmas in Heaven" how peaceful and comforting that sounds. For anyone who would like to read Wendy's Obit in her local paper, was sent to me by a friend and I forwarded it on to Joe. Lynn

Hi All, It is difficult sending back reports after the recent news of Wendy's early and untimely passing. However, I am sure she would want us all to carry on with business as usual.
Today we fly to Rio de Janeiro from Salvador, then on to one of the Wonders of The World, Iguassu Falls, right on the Brazil-Argentine border, for 3 days. Please look for the photos! Bye for now and thanks for following along and for your comments. Richard Roe
Hi Richard I can't tell you how much I am enjoying traveling with you via internet. I bet Vicki is sad her time is almost up and Gael I guess is next so she will be so happy. Guess what....Mary (Fabulous Finalist) and I are meeting tomorrow for lunch at The Olive Garden. I am so excited. She really sounds like a fabulous lady and I can't wait to become her new friend. You have really been instrumental in causing lots of new and lasting friendships. I am so pleased with your work and I'm sure you have made God very happy with your creative efforts to bring the world a little bit closer. Take care and enjoy. I'll see you in Aug. Maybe I'll write a new song...unstead of I'll see you in Sept. it'll be I'll see you in Aug. and we'll cruse away to Alaska Bay....Hip Hip HooRay...Now I'm getting silly. You and Vicki and Umbreto...Thank you again for sharing. Much Love ...one of your Tulsa Marys.
My heart is soooo heavy...my sincere condolences to Wendy's family!!
Thank you, Joe, for putting her picture on your blog ID...what a thoughtful thing to do! I put my hands on the picture and said a prayer for her family!
I just am amazed at the way life tosses us around!! May God bless us all and our windswept lives!!
love, sharon
I have been on the road for 29 hours and not on line. I was so saddened to hear about Wendy and my thoughts and prayers are with her family. I am close to her age and have lost friends (just 3 days before Manhattan Beach a friend of 30 years died suddenly). Let's not forget how precious life is and each of my children end each call with "I love you mom". You never know when it will be the last time you speak to a loved one. Karen
What a great adventure Richard, Vicki, and Umberto. The photo's are just spectacular! I think if Wendy could send us a message from heaven it would definitely be LIVE! LOVE! LIVE! and keep on smiling! Life is short! No Regrets!
Thanks for bringing some joy and excitement to us back home. Go Team Brazil!!!
Umberto
The pictures from Salvador were great!! I especially enjoyed the man warrior with the swords and hanging bells, from the museum...it was quite artistic.
I also liked the one in Pelourinho, with house fronts and tiled roofs. The blue, coral, white and yellow fronts had watercolor effect, and it was framed really nicely.
I can't wait to see the pictures of Iguassu Falls. I've always wanted to go there. You are doing a wonderful job Umberto!! Grazie!
Hi Umberto! Do you remember me? You were at the end of the table the first night in MB and there was an empty seat between us. Your photos of Salvador are fantastic! I love the colours of the buildings. You have brought the place alive in your photographs which helps us who are stuck here in the cold winter to live vicariously through you. Grazi!
Richard Are you sleeping in those shorts, too? LOL Vicki How do you manage to look so stylin' in all that heat?
Good morning Richard, Umbreto and Vicki and also Joe...where ever you areand to all you gals in chick a dee land........The Salvadore pictures are fantastic. You all could publish a picture book for people who do not like to read alot and it's almost self explanatory. I love the cobble streets and one picture shows Richard may have put on a little weight in the tummy...could have been the angle....You're still handsome tho. I meet Mary at noon today. I'm so excited to meet her face to face. You are all in my thoughts and prayers for a wonderful and safe journey. XXXOOOMM
JOE - Thank you for posting the picture of Wendy. She was a good one and will be missed. I loved the comment that she will be spending her first Christmas in Heaven, how wonder is that?
Nancy
A big HI to RR
VIckie, and Umberto
I loved the Salvador crumbling
old city facades, were they really
tinged with that beautiful blue color?
Hi JOE, too...my hero, Master and Commander
of XMAS lights!!!! I'm in awe of your patience
when faced with I'm sure a few blown bulbs,
fuses and lots of hopelessly twisted up messes
of wires...or is it Nancy's Job?
Looking forward to the photos of Igassu
Falls...one of my best friends is flying there
with her family for the holidays!! I have her
dialed in to your photo page too!!!
Sunni
Hi, Get ready for some of Umberto's best works. The Iguassu Falls are breathtaking. Due to a change we are staying on the Argentinian side of the falls. I hope you all are well and we love to hear from you on the blog.
FYI, the bookings are going very, very well for both cruises to Alaska. I know it sounds early to reserve your spot, but it isn't and this is THE peak season for Alaska. If you plan on joining the fun-and I guarantee you LOADS of fun, please reserve your place. it costs $350 and is FULLY refundable up until the end of May. Ciao for now, Richard Roe
Hi Vic and Richard,
Wow looks like an incredible trip. Vicki don't get so personel with all those wild animals.. be careful girl. I want you to come home better than you left. Looks like you are having an awesome time. So glad seeing you look so happy. I can hardly wait to hear all about it when you get home. Hope to meet Richard someday, looks and from the blogs sounds like a nice man.
Love and miss ya
Millie
Hi Ladies,
Thank you all for your compliments on the "Warm Weather-White Christmas" Show on HGTV. It was a lot of fun (and a lot of work) doing it. I have some funny inside stories about how it all came about and how we pulled it off. Reality TV is not all it seems! It will be repeated about four more times in December so check your cable listings or HGTV.com. I'll see if Richard will let me use the NL to give you some inside "scoop."
I'm sure most of you are busy with holiday parties, shopping, cooking and visiting. Please be safe. It looks like there is some pretty nasty weather around the world this season. Travel safely.
Of course, our intrepid travelers seem to be lapping up the sun! Glad to see they are getting into a travel rythym. We do that too, when we travel as a family. I always am amazed at the end of a trip how easy things are and how relaxed we are compared to the beginning when we are all "amped" up and excited. A year ago we were on our way to Beijing and Thailand and I was very, very nervous about it all. Now when we go back, it will all seem so much easier.
-joe
Mom,
Can you come home soon?
Or at least post a blog with your Eggplant Parmesean recipe????
Love,
Shay
To all: FINALLY an internet that works!! RR and I tried to get on line everyday many times at the last hotel but their computers rarely worked. If RR got on he stayed on.....if I got on he took my place!! HE needs to learn to SHARE more!!!! Now I'm playing catch up...........
TO CHASE: My "my 275 lb,6'4" baby boy"!! You found me!! But, you went on the wrong blog! It's ok, though, at your size you can do WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!
To CLIMPEACE: All your comments have been toooo sweet! Yes, I LOVE "hot and sweaty." It's a great excuse for not dressing up and completely forgetting about hair and make-up!!! Also, those older guys like RR usually need glasses and don't even notice! I like that about them!
To LOVE 2 TRAVEL: I shed my Jane leaves in the Amazon, then had no business prancing around in my tiny Brazilian mini in Salvador and now am a total premadona in a "fancy smancy" hotel with chocolates on the pillow in Iguazu, Argentina! Life's tough but I'll manage somehow!!!
To PAULA: I love the "Team Brazil" concept if I can be the coach and boss around all my players!!! Hope RR goes for it!!
To GERT: Thanks for buying my girls diamonds and the boys motorcycles for X'mas. While you're at it will you stop payment on the checks that I gave them as presents BEFORE I left?? Didn't need the snake training I got from your boys. However, I DID need dolphin and monkey training. I lost....they won!! So you think Tarzan's gorgeous?/!? Well, he's out of commission (temporarily). As for Umberto....well....he has this "thing" for a plastic duck! But, I think there's trouble in paradise so maybe now's the time to make your move!!
To LESLIE: I wish you HAD "fed me to the crocodiles".......it would have saved me from being bitten by the dolphin and nearly killed by the monkeys!!!!!
To JO-AN'VANDOREN: I don't know what the paint on the children meant. It was a REAL remote village and my best guess is that there's not a lot to do there so the kids "finger-paint" each other. I got the feeling that the dance (and song)is something that they do just for visitors....and we were told they only do it for visitors that they LIKE!! We were honored!
To MILLIER: Don't worry about the wild animals. Most of them are really quite harmless. In fact, I'm bringing you home a very nice anaconda!! He'll keep you company when that cute new boyfriend isn't around! Miss you too!
To MART: Where are you???? I got a longer blog from your son than I did from you!!! I guess I'll just bring home a lot of gifts for him and NOT you!!! Now be a good sister-in-law and get with the program!!!
To CONNIE-PICK ME: I too LOVED that little village girl's skirt and it was made of bird feathers. My favorite, though, was the woven patterned one with the colored feathers hanging down the sides. The women and girls all looked beautiful with beads, etc. but the MEN....well, most of them were almost naked. Some things just don't change around the world!!!!
TO SHAYLA: If you need the eggplant receipe just break a window, go to the righthand cabinet under the counter, white receipe binder, under "vegetables",
then hurry up and get out before the police come!!!
TO SUNNI: Good idea about the zip lock bags for the clothes but we had almost no rain in the Amazon. Lucky! However, I should have packed more laundry detergent to get out all the sweat and dirt and BLOOD from all the animals that attacked me!!!!! Yes, the pink dolphins were wild....and NOT yet completely aclamated to humans. Guess that's why one BIT me!!!
TO GAEL: Found your brain yet??? Packing "light" is NOT synomous with "naked traveler"!!! Have I taught you nothing?? I've done my best to wear out RR so he sleeps the whole month of January so you can hit the night clubs and pick up all the 30 year olds. You know....somebody who can REALLY keep up with you!!! I think RR is freaking out that you, me, Lori and Vija are all going to Vegas together in February with many of the other FF's (fabulous finalists). You were the one who told him to just take ALL of us!! He'll be sweating bullets that he isn't!!!! I'll call you when I get back and before you leave. I packed all the right stuff and I'll give you a heads up!!! xoxo
TO MERRY MARY: Yes, I'm sad that my time is almost up but my parents taught me to "share" so I'm willingly passing RR onto Gael. If anyone can handle him SHE can so I know he's in good hands. Hope your lunch with Mary was fun. She's a sweetheart! We rode to the airport together at the end of the MB event and like I told her in the cab.....she was a little shy in the beginning....sort of a slow started....but....she really came on strong at the end. Some of her one-liners cracked us all up!
TO JOEINMB: Hope I catch the HGTV White Christmas Show re-run when I get home. The comments from all the ladies have been awesome! Still need to thank you more for all your help with my "computer challenged" relatives!!
Whew!!!! Hope I didn't miss too many people. You all deserve our thanks again for being such loyal followers!! Can I go to bed now???
I have a full schedule tomorrow of hiking at Iguazu Falls. Then probably an afternoon at the spa and then a sunset boat ride dinner or something like that. It's sooooo stressful trying to keep it all straight. Poor me....are the violins playing yet?????? Guess I'll just go and eat the chocolates off my pillow to feel better!!!!
Vicki
As a moth to the flame, the FULL MOON drew me here...
Stunned and saddened by the passing of Wendy's beautiful spirit~ too soon...
She and her family are in my thoughts~
As are you ALL...
Sending LOVE,
Skywatcher-'ella'
Just posted new photos from Iguazu Falls. Vicki, what's with that 'dangling from the fence' thing?!!
-joe
Mom,
Just kidding on the eggplant parmesean recipe. I miss you but would never want you to end your fun on account of my belly. When I blogged last night I was starving and totally jealous of you. Yesterday was one of those Atlanta winter days when it was 33 degrees and raining all day. Yuk!!!! Just warm enough not to snow, and at least be a cold day that's pretty to look at!
Can't wait to see the next round of pics...you know I have been wanting to go to Argentina!!!!
You should hear from my brothers and sisters soon...I don't know how I figured it out yet they are all so technically challenged with the blog! Guess I got the brains in the family (in at least one area).
By the say, please tell me that all you want for xmas is a fruit cake because xmas is a week away and I haven't had time to do any shopping yet!!!
Mom,
Just got an email from Stephanie. I'll paste what she wrote:
I too am so glad for your Mom. I have wanted to send her a message,
but even with the help of younger people here at the firm who are
computer wizards, I have been unable to figure out how to log on. If you send
her another message, please tell her that I frequently view the
websites and am closely following her trip.
Apparently there is something in the MacKarvich/Baker gene that inhibits our ability to figure out how to blog!!!
Greetings Everyone!
SKYWATCHER 'ELLA' : the Full Moon certainly looks good on you ;)
LOVE to U2!
Happy Chanukkah...Merry Christmas and a Joyful, Blissful Year ahead for ALL of us!
My Chanukkah decorations/lights etc. look ABFAB, the place has a glow to it ;)
Thoughts and Prayers go out to Wendy's Family, she would want us to live in the moment and keep SMILING:) A beautiful shining Star
you are Wendy!
In Love and Light
Senior Bachelorette:)
val the gal
p.s. Still have to check the website to see your 'gone hollywood' Christmas House Joe and Nancy. Mazeltov on being THE brightest house on the block!
Hi Vicki and Richard and Umberto
Once again, great pictures of the falls, just magnificent! It looks like you all got a bit wet and loved it! ; )
Vicki do you miss the family yet? Are you ready to come home? I think no matter how much fun I was having, I would be ready to get home after a month. Of course I would also be ready to go again in the next month. :0 I am sure having connected so nicely with Richard makes it a bit easier to stay and play.
Take care and I am not sure when you are returning but go out with a bang... not falling from a fence! What about a Vegas trip? Details please...might want to join you!
Go Team Brazil!!
Paula
Unberto
Honestly, these were the best pictures of Iguazu Falls that I have ever seen! When I saw the second one, with the tiny people, for the first time, I realized how tall the falls really were....Quite impressive!
Vicki
I am enjoying your nice descriptive and newsy blogs. I also look forward to the pictures of you hanging over the rails wherever you go...it's become your trademark of sorts! You've got guts and I like it! Go Vicki...You have set the bar pretty high for the others to follow.
Richard
I think Vicki has been a good influence on you...you seem to be smiling more often for the photos.
I like that hat with the flap in the back and the beard...it suits you well.
I am so sorry to hear about your news. I know exactly what you are going through. I bet that you are really overwhelmed. My husband of 23 years died of 4th Stage Lung cancer. He survived 1 year and 4 months. If there is anything at all that I can do, please let me know. If you just want to talk, I'm a real good listener. Be brave, and with your family and friends to support you, you will get through this I know.
Regards,
drouthgolfer
