The Journey

Hi All, Sorry I have been quiet on the Blog, but please get ready for a very active Blog once the Journey begins next week. I will try to update the blog frequently, and Umberto will be posting pictures, and I hope whomever my Traveling Partner is will also post comments. Should be interesting!!!We'll see!!

When leaving for a 6 month trip around the world, there are a million details to attend to, and this has kept me quite busy. A Newsletter just came out with some amazing pictures of a place in Brazil where we will be staying, the Ariau Amazon Towers. All of this was arranged by a Brazil specialist, Jill Siegel. See the Newsletter for how to contact Jill(Jill@AriauAmazonTowers.com, 1-888-Go-Ariau) if you are going anywhere in South America, and especially Brazil! She's great to work with!!

Sign-ups for the Cruises have been EXCELLENT. I have helped to match up at least 10 women as roommates (and 1 man and 2 women???). Again, if interested in a roommate, please e-mail me at richard@seniorbachelor.com . By having a roommate, you avoid a single supplement charge, and a great way to meet a new friend. Folks, I guarantee you these cruises will be spectacular scenery and great activities during the day and parties at night!! I hope you will be on board. You should know that Joe and I are working very hard to get as many men on board as possible. 99% of our group will be single, not married folks. But if you have married relatives (your children or parents), OK for them to come as well.

Best wishes, Richard Roe

Jungle Cruise Jokes:

Not all of the jokes have been approved for use on the Jungle Cruise. On October 11, 1997, the Orange County Register reported that at least 8 Jungle Cruise skippers had been fired for telling jokes which were either unapproved or not approriate to the 1938 theming of the attraction.

Cruise Captain:

"As we leave the last outpost of civilization, we travel deep into the mouth of the Irrawaddy river of Asia into a tropical rain forests, where it rains some 365 days a year."

"Feel that mist on your faces...Don't worry that's only the monkeys in the trees"

"That's the only evidence we have they are still in the trees along the Jungle Cruise."

"As you can see, countless varieties of plant life grow in abundance here. In fact, we've counted more than 100 varieties of rare bromeliads in this area. Many of these tropical plants get their nourishment simply from the air."

"Now please watch out for these carnivorous vines [pointing]. Last week, one of them reached into the back of the boat and pulled a woman right out. It was awful! And just before she disappeared, she was feeling just vine...[Pointing] In fact she was sitting right where that man in red is sitting!"

"These are the ruins of an ancient shrine, almost totally destroyed centuries ago by an earthquake. Many explorers have tried to steal that priceless ruby, but no one's ever gotten past that poisonous spider."

"How many of you think that's a big spider? [show of hands] How many of you think he's bigger than the one crawling up that woman's leg [quickly pointing to guest]?"

[Turns off lights, kills motor] "Oh no, not again!"

[In low voice] "That's no house cat over there. Bengal Tigers can jump over 20 feet, and we must be at least, well...19 feet away!"

"And here we have some killer crocodiles. Don't worry though, they've been super glued to the rocks for your protection. "

"[In low voice] Don't make any sudden moves! Those king cobras are the world's largest poisonous snakes... and they go out for a bite every few minutes! "

"Up on the steps...three king cobras. Hmm...there use to be four of them--I wonder where the other one is?" [Look around boat interior]

Dear Great Friends on this Blog,

I just need to pop in to wish everyone a greatful Thanksgiving.

Thank goodness for these "Hallmark Days" that add an extra nudge towards Friendship and Hospitality.

To the theme of Adventure and Romance; as we mature, each day and Holiday seems to become more meaningful. With our knowledge and experiences, our values are changing.

This sight is such a great place to share a bit of each of our lives.

Our best wishes are for Richard, All the Finalists and the rest of us that make this work.

I kind of chuckled as Richard disclosed some of his worries, ie;health, etc.
That is life and what joins us as humans.
I find that Worry Works. Things seldom turn out as we worried they might and we always seem to get the help we need as needed.

A special shared TOAST today for all of our Tomorrows and the Adventure of Living.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I played volleyball with 2 of my sons today and tomorrow night will see Gabby. Kind of a goodbye for at least 6 months. I'll miss them for sure, and especially my 7 grandchildren. I'm thinking this is my last long trip. I don't want to miss seeing my grandchildren grow up. My next communication will be from Rio de Janeiro. Umberto and I (and hopefully the women) will update the Blog as much as possible and I will write weekly Newsletters. Thanks to everybody for everything, and I look forward to a lot of fun events for all of us upon my return. Ciao, Richard Roe

RICHARD: I know the feeling of missing a loved one all too well, with my Son Stuart in Uganda on a
six month Internship. Monday marks his second month away from home and
I miss him so very much. He will be back April 1st, 2006. He has travelled quite a bit already, spent three months in India a few years ago, visited Israel, Australia and now Africa! All three of my children have a fair amount of travelling under their belts, so to speak! It is wonderful how encouraging the universities are pertaining to promoting travel incentives for students, exchange programs etc.
Well it is the final countdown to an adventure of a lifetime, how generous of you to invite six lassies each on a months holiday!
Wishing you all the best in finding the 'pot o' gold' at Rainbows End!

Vicki from Fla and Ga and BRAZIL.........HEY LOOK! I'M BLOGGING!

(Actually, Joe helped me set up my blog so check it out! We'll just keep it between us girls....)

57 hours, 55 minutes and tooooo many seconds to go till we're up, up and away!!!! I can hardly wait for the journey to begin!! I can't eat, I can't sleep, I can't type !/?>"<{+*#, and I haven't packed one single thing!! I need a manicure, a pedicure, highlights, a facial, a massage, liposuction and therapy!!!!!! Anyone know any "walk in" clinics for these necessities?? Actually, I think all I REALLY need is champaigne and chocolate to get us off!!

From what I can gather, Richard likes a really earthy, "no frills" kind of girl. This, I deducted from information he shared in his newsletter and at the Manhattan Beach extravaganza. He told all of us finalists that (for the trip) he is only taking a couple of pairs of shorts/pants, three shirts, a sweater, a vest, a jacket and two pair of shoes. Pretty good since he's going to be gone for SIX (I repeat SIX loooooong months!!!!!). Cindee may need to take him shopping the last month!! I'lll be taking a little more for only ONE month (even though I've been informed that I can take "whatever I want" since I will be "carrying my own bags!!!!") Lucky for me....I lift weights....travel light......and do "sweaty" really well!! (I'll pack deodorant just in case Rich doesn't like "smelly" earthy!!) I hope he also likes "rugged" since today my grandson popped me in the eye with his spider man transformer and now I have one very black eye to go with the other swollen eye that I already have from lack of sleep!! I plan to wear "blue" when I meet up Richard at the Atlanta airport so that it coordinates well with the "black" already on my face!! Ultimately, I've decideed that it doesn't matter what we look like, how we pack, what we wear or what people think.....it's about starting a new chapter in our lives and having lots and lots of FUN!!! I am so, so ready for it and I hope Richard is too!! Thanks to all of you for following this incredible journey!!

As 'Tarzan' said in his newzletter these one month trips aint for the 'faint-hearted', I read a lot in that! How about turning the coming six month sojourn into a 'reality show' such as 'Survivor' with an 'Indiana Jones' kinda twist to it ;) Look what happened with 'POP&ME'..it was A HIT !!!!

A question for Vicki?

Were you the lovely blonde lady on Oprah Winfrey's Show a while back?
I vaguely remember reading that one of the Fabulous Finalists appeared on The Oprah Show. I saw the show that day when Oprah asked her guest what she uses to keep her face and neck in such good condition and the answer was most unexpected, a cream that is used elsewhere turned out to be perfect for using on face and neck too ;) The expression on Oprah's face that day was priceless!!!!! I feel that person may have been you, just a hunch!

Nice going!! I, too, will be on both cruises, and will be back in Seattle the 18th of August at the end of the first sailing. The next ship sails on the 20th. Joe and I are already planning having great parties those 2 nights, the 18th and 19th, so that the people leaving the first crusie and the people coming on the second cruise can meet each other if they would like. the cruises are already 25% sold out!!!

Hi everyone! As one of the original "flowers" I'm still around, just tres busy with school. We just finished all our first report cards and sent them home with the kids yesterday. Then on Thursday afternoon and on into the evening, we have parent teacher conferences. So...lots to do here. However, I have been trying to keep up with all the news and am genuinely interested in how the travels go. I also keep in touch with a lot of the others via email or blogs. Everyone is fine, just moving on with life.

Richard as one of your "Rangers," I have put the word out (especially about the cruises) on a dating site I'm on so we'll see what happens with that. Didja git my email? Notice my attempt at humour about your being the least likely to respond? I'm sure you have NO time at all to do such silly things, but it might be fun to give it a try.

Vicki Sorry to hear about your black eye, but it'll be a great conversation piece. Just point and smile :D (j/k) A week before going down to MB, I fell in the shower so sported a lovely HUGE bruise on my upper arm (was able to hide it, tho', with sleeves). You'll not be so lucky! I hope you have a marvelous time - I did look at the photos of the place where you'll be staying and WOW - lucky you!

Richard I never thought about going on BOTH cruises, but that just might be fun. I would like to tour around Seattle, too, as there are a few places I'd like to see - haven't been down there since oh probably 1968ish - bought my first mini skirt there. Boy, that takes me back!

Well, I just finished up my Saturday teacher-work, so I think I'll go play with my Robbie (he turned 2 yesterday) for a while and then think about getting some dinner. Oh for some scallops from the Rock'NFish (was that the name of it, Richard?)

Ah, the tricks we play on men! If they only knew... Fortunately, however, I know Richard well enough by now to know that none of it really matters to him AT ALL!!!! He'll LOVE my black eye!! THAT I know! Lucky me!!

Yes, I was the gal on Oprah this year. It was a show titled: "Women Who Look Younger Today Than They Did Ten Years Ago." I thought I was going to be on as the "highdiving grandma" but when Oprah starts reading her "last minute" teleprompter who knows what will happen. She unexpectedly picked up on my "unusual" face cream and everything then went in a "different direction." Who cares...it's OPRAH!!!!! The whole experience was incredible!! Producers, etc., etc. were all fabulous and I even got to take my daughters with me to the taping in Chicago! (My sons were a little jealous!) No complaints here...and I think they're doing a follow-up show soon! Vicki

Leslie, Sorry I did not get around to answering your e-mail, but I was going to tomorrow. If you could afford to come on both cruises, you would meet two completely different groups of women, and men!! As you know from attending the Manhattan Beach event, and the others who were on our first cruise in Chicago, so many new friendships have been formed, and these cruises will result in many, many new friendships. Of course this is in addition to spectacular scenery, food, parties, meetings, dancing, etc. etc.

As I have stated many times before, totally inaccurate comments have no place on this blog, and will be deleted. A recent comment lamented the fact that I had not spoken to Vicki recently. That could not be farther from the truth. In my absence, Joe knows to delete any inaccurate and/or misleading postings. Save your incorrect, negative, statements for the other blogs, and stay off of this one!!! You are NOT welcome here!!!!!!

Bloggers & Readers :) Please allow me to elaborate on my previous comments, since after reading it myself, it sounds flippant and somewhat shallow:
Why would I go on both Cruises??? Several reasons-- 1)Alaska is on my "A" list:
Alaska
Africa
Australia
Asia
A Man

My parents cruised to Alaska in the '70's, intrigued hearing their stories. Andys' sister lives in Alaska and I truly want to experience why anyone would want to live there. What is the appeal and warmth that keeps them in a cold environment. I love to read and research flora, fauna and learn about the unfamiliar, microscopic creatures to the largest whale or polar bear.

2) Pay once for airfare, the past has proven that one week of vacation is not enough time to relax.

3) Both cruises have different destinations.

4) Cruises offer many amenities, although I like to "rough it" at times, not on these cruises!

5) Opportunity to meet more accomplished, outstanding, lovely people which is precisely what happened in Manhatten Beach & Chicago. And hope those that I met will also be on the cruises.

6) Should I meet a man for a relationship that would be added bonus since I'm soooooooooooooo particular.

Have a Great Day! (I'm not telling you what to do)

Only I can choose to ruin my day!
HUGS.

I could not believe that you were the oldest of the 6 Finalists!!

Of course that has been the norm, rather than exception with most of the applicants to SB adventure.

I have met so many faboulous, very youthful looking and acting peers thru this and survivors of every description, which is an encouragement personally.

I have finally embraced my age, as my older sister has noted, since entering this adventure!!

I am so excited for everyone - even those of us in the peanut gallery!

Vicki, I laughed until I cried reading your thoughts about preparing for your journey. It's summer-time in Brazil (80 degrees and a little humid, for us Florida girls)...I can recommend only few important items for your suitcase...the rest is really not important. 1) Hiking boots - something kind to your feet, and good socks (does anyone remember "Earth shoes"?) 2) Lotion without perfume and, 3) good shampoo and conditioner. It is amazing how quickly we shed all our usual requirements when we are taken out of our home environments and dropped into a place like Brazil!

Richard, will you go to (I hope I say this correctly) Parque National Sete Cidades? It's a weird little place with rock paintings....and lots of opinions about where it all came from. If you do, post what you think?

ARE WE THERE YET????

You didn't miss the name of the cream I use on my face. I never said it. It's called "Premarin cream for the face." It's a perscription that can be gotten from the dermatologist. I lived in Florida for over 30 years and did a lot of the "sun and fun" activities. Always fighting the dry skin... and that's when a doctor recommended it to me. Oprah contacted my Atlanta determologist about it after I was on the show and asked a lot of questions. It is somewhat controversial so check with your own doctor first before considering giving it a try.

Richard my Hero!

Thanks for speaking up and protecting your Blog....

Why do these people continue to come here and bully us all...

IF WE WANT TO READ GARBAGE
we know where to go and get plenty of it....there will always be those that when in a gang feel they own the world and can try to destroy the fun of others

If I want to read your garbage
I know where to go!

This can be such a fun and pleasant place to connect with speacil, kind , thoughtful and loving women....lets keep it that way..

I understand how it can get so boring on some of the other blogs,
so you come here looking for victims to taunt and degrade in order to amuse your immature minds,
how sad and empty your lives must be that you have to stoop to the level of a spirit basher, a party crasher, a balloon buster.

Such poor examples of human beings....and you are the adults, the leaders that many depend on....I pity you but most of all I pity your souls and pray you find peace within the tormented storms that lie deep within you.....

Don't get me going girls or I will be bible thumping your heads to salvation.......

The only negative word I used was Garbage...

My statement was a fact of the reality of what some people try to give birth to here.

Why is it assumed that I spoke ruffly?

If a storm rips through your homestead uprooting trees and smashing your home to pieces while destroying your fields.....

And someone reports these happenings, are they said to be negative? I think not.

I reported what I precieved, in hope that the spirit busters would realize the unproductive nature of their thoughts and acts and would shamefully regret and amend their doings with grace, for the well being of all.

Anyone care to reread my earlier statement with a soft voice, please do.

Oh, before I forget....I searched high and low, near and far, but to no avail. No mention no place in the bible about capital's.
