What a way to spend out winters...Watching you enjoy the summer time in the southern hemisphere, are we lucky!!

Vicki, are you the one who was on Oprah, about ways to 'look younger', and what your dermatologist recommended 20 years ago? If so, I bought some in Dubai, and the Pharmacist thought I was nuts! How do you use it? Anything to look as great as you!

The pictures are great, but watch your wallets, they will pick pocket anything, so stay safe. Nancy

Beautiful photos, Umberto! Looks like things are off to a good start. Vicki what on earth were you doing climbing over that railing?

For all of you - WARNING this made me cry. Copy te the web site below. It takes a few minutes to appear... but the message is a good one, and it is worth the wait, especially if you like Josh Groban.. Have kleenex handy.

The scenery is fabulous, and I must say, Vicki and Richard look like they are having a great time. I would like to know also, what were you doing, Vicki, climbing over that rail? What an experience! My Perfect Match acquaintences continue to amaze me-Richard, all your work has not gone unappreciated-I am having more fun than I have had in a long time, and it is all because of this whole experience. I am waiting anxiously for the next installment of pictures. Thank you for sharing, and Umberto, besides being adorable, you are a great correspondant and photographer!!

Hi Joe,

As I told you, I am interested in trying out Perfect Match and took the personality profile some time ago. I can log in, but have not proceded further. Other people (who also have taken the profile, but not yet joined) have received promotional offers and a newsletter, but I have not. Attempts to contact the organization have been unsuccessful. My last two emails have not been answered and the promotion ends tomorrow.

Perhaps you can help me resolve these problems.

Also, if I join, how do they know and give credit to SB for my membership?

Shayla, Mart, Millie & Wren,

Thanks for all of your sweet messages. It's so great to have such fabulous friends and family. I'm still numb from day 1. Richard has everything planned perfectly. Only a few hours each to catch our breath and catch a few zzzz's. Richard is taking me to all the best places and most of them are "high in the sky." You know how much I love to be waaaaay up there!! I can't imagine a whole month of this kind of excitement! I'm like a "kid in a candy store." Can't get enough!!! Keep checking the newsletters, etc. I'll be writing my comments daily if possible. Hi All, It's been a busy time since we left the U.S. on Monday. Just in case anybody is curious, Rio is 6 hours ahead of California time and 3 hours ahead of east coast time. It is VERY hot and humid during the days. Vicki does not have a problem with this as Georgia and Atlanta (where she lives) are similar to this in the summer. But I am not used to this weather. Manhattan Beach has virtually no relative humidity, so typically we do activities from 9-1, have lunch, then chill out in our a/c rooms 'till 6, then a walk along the beach, then dinner. We have packed a lot into our first 3 days here. Umberto is doing a great job with the photos and as a traveling companion to both of us.

Tonight we will go to dinner at a friend of mine's restaurant. I have not seen him (Roberto) in 10 years. He is a Brazilian and lived in LA in 1995 and 1996. He attended the going away party for Chris and myself when we set off for our around the world trip shooting Pop&Me. It will be great fun to catch up with Roberto. We leave Sunday morning for the AMAZON. A lifelong dream of mine. Umberto will endeavor to post photos every day, I will try to comment on the blog every day, and so will Vicki. Vicki is requesting her friends to comment on this blog versus hers so everyone can read how she is doing. Ciao for now. Richard Roe

Carol,

DId you go through the SB website, or directly to Perfect Match? I went through SB, and had no problem, and I am here to tell you, it was the best thing I have done in a long time! I had a date to the Rolling Stones (6th row) on Tuesday night! It has just been so much fun. Good luck-Keep trying.

Richard, Vicki, and Umberto-I think your adventure is better than the Rolling Stones-everything is just so beautiful, and it sounds like the journey has started out with a bang-keep us posted.

Yes Mom, exactly what were you doing hanging off of that rail??? I don't know if you knew this, but base jumping does require a parachute! Next time you do that, at least strap on a bungee cord!

Well I am now afraid that I am going to fail my brokers test tomorrow and lose my job because I have become completely consumed by the SB website! I now have all my friends and everyone in my office tracking the adventure as well. I was much less obsessive when I had you here to talk to in person! I was so excited yesterday...those pictures were amazing! I couldn't believe the color of that water! Many thanks to RR for putting all this together and Umberto for tracking this adventure w/ his fabulous pics. I am completely overwhelmed with excitement for MY MOM! You look like you are having a blast and I can't wait for the next group of pics to be posted!

Wow! Reality has just set in! I've known for a little while now that you were going on this trip...I even dropped you off at the airport...but when I saw the pictures of you sitting on the beach in Rio...it really hit me! THAT'S MY MOM IN BRAZIL....HOW COOL! In my brief encounter with Richard at the airport, he asked me how I felt about everything. My response was, "I don't know how I feel yet!" I was definitely excited, but definitely very nervous too! But I logged on to the senior bachelor web site and saw you sitting on the beach and can now honestly say that I am definitely feeling nothing but excitement for you! The instant I saw those pictures, I realized that you have been destined for a trip like this your whole life! I called Keely and we immediately started reminiscing about our childhood and all the crazy things we did, and we both agreed that your adventurous spirit has been just dying to get out! After 31 years of having kids in the house and all the things you did for us...you certainly deserve to HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!

I was SOOOOOOOO relieved when I logged on to Richard's website and saw that he will be posting pictures from the trip. Images were of you swimming with piranhas and wearing snakes around your neck were filling my head (of course, you are not in the Amazon yet!) and I was so excited to see that I can follow your trip! Many thanks to Richard and Umberto for their efforts to keep all of this documented so well so the rest of us can follow all the fun! I hope they can keep up with you!!!!!

I hope you post a blog soon...I can't wait to get an update!
Love you! Shay

Vicki,
Hi doll. It has taken me ever so long to access this blog stuff...not familiar with it at all. My just-graduated-from-college-son got me started. Thank goodness for 2 children smarter than I!
I want readers to know that I was in Group #1 of the FF's and we all had such great rapport. I know that may sound hard to believe and I myself went into the 4 days with some pretty big doubts about the other women being catty, competitive, etc.
I will tell you that I am so behind you on this trip and in some weird way, it's almost a relief NOT to be chosen.
Anyway, run Richard's buns off and give him what-for, please, from the rest of us!!
Can't wait to see you the end of Feb. (just between FF's in #1).

hugs and luv,
Wren

that would make me kinda nervous, did you have a safety harness on, was it just a small "jump" to the ground???...but i guess not, well, in any event, hope you have lots of travel insurance just in case...

but i AM surprised that Richard looked so calm...well, it sure looks like everyone is having fun in the sun and i am sure envious sitting here in "snowy" Vancouver...

Aloha Roemancin' Roemeo, Umberto and Vicki

RICHARD: you do look dapper in all the photographs ;) By the way Oprah is THE guest on Late Night David Letterman tonight after 16 years, she has finally 'broken the spell'. Sooo for all of us who love and admire Oprah, let's see what transpires tonight. Also Opening Night for her show 'The Colour Purple' on Broadway! :)

VICKI: kiss Richard on both cheeks from me, the Latin way, I nearly said the French Kiss but that implies more than each cheek ;)although the French Way is to kiss both cheeks, see how one can easily be misunderstood ;)

UMBERTO: keep your eyes on the camera, your attention span can be easily reduced in such a 'hot climate' ;) literally and figuratively speaking!!!!

carpe diem y'all, G-D Bless and do me one big favour please bury a pinch of tobacco in the soil from me, I do that instinctively wherever I travel, I call it my 'Peace Offering', not sure when I will travel to Brazil.

A BIG HELLO to you JOE afterall you are an integral part of this sojourn/mission/cause ;)
Nice seeing you on the blog as part observer part participant, I am sure you would love to be with your good friend Richard and enjoy the daily adventurous 'Indiana Jones' ;) and Co.

Here's a joke to keep you smiling:
A cabbie stopped to give a Nun a ride. The cabbie could not keep his eyes off her, so she asked him why he was staring. He replied saying that he has always fantasized about kissing a Nun. She replied sure, if you are Single and Catholic. He said yes.
She kissed him so, it caught him completely off guard, afterwards he felt very ashamed and said he had to repent. He admitted that he was Jewish and Married, the Nun then admitted 'her' name was Kevin and dressed for Halloween ;)
Keep Smiling :)

Hi all,
"Long time no blog"
Now we can all follow those photos and live vicariously through you the three of you. Oh, stop complaining about the heat and humidity! Give us a break - at least it isn't like this Midwest white stuff. And not near as cold and slippery.
Thanks so much for giving us such a live tour of the areas you are visiting. The photos tell so much in addition to your live comments. Isn't the internet great when it comes time to all of this? Who would have ever thought, years ago, that all this would be possible. You can literally stay in touch with your family and bring them right along with you on the trip.
Have a wild time and make moments in time........but be safe.
Hugs,
Chandra

I dont know you all as personally as some of you know each other but as an "outsider" I have just a couple of comments about how special this amazing effort is.

First to Richard: I think you are brave and intelligent. I respect the way you have decided to solve an issue you would like to change within your personal life. I love to watch a person who understands the huge world we live in and is able design something special just for himself.

Vicki, you are too cute and very funny.....but dont scare me anymore by taking risks with your safety. As another competitive swimmer/diver, I know you have more than proven yourself....I want to keep reading your messages, but not those sent from a hospital :)!!!

Sharing all of this very personal stuff with us is gracious and generous to a fault. The pictures, the open communication and the positive people involved are so appreciated.
