"Meet the Senior Bachelor" Daily Blog- Wednesday, August 31 -Photos Part I

Hello Ladies,

Check out the first photos below! The Senior Bachelor and the "Early Birds"!

Joe taking over again. Even though the official Event doesn't start until tomorrow, many Ladies are on their way to Manhattan Beach by air and car and the excitement is building! Safe travels to all!

Well, the Senior Bachelor is all spiffed up with new clothes, fresh hair cut and .... well, read my comments in the previous blog. You did it-- you sold out the hotel! And the best part is I think most everyone who is at the hotel already knows each other through the blog. We never would have imagined that! And to think most of you never blogged before meeting up with the Senior Bachelor (including me... and Richard.) And I'm sure that those of you who do not know each other yet will make fast and lasting friends during the Event.

I'm going to make every effort to keep the Senior Bachelor Blog as up-to-the minute as possible during the event with photos and commentary-- Umberto, "aiutami" (help me!). I will also create a new blog every day to prevent "scolli-itis". Ladies of the Blog, I know you have your own blogs to manage but could I ask a favor and request you add your comments on the Senior Bachelor as well so everyone can read what you have to say. Thanks!

Stay closely tuned-- you are all going to make this a fantastic Event!

-joe

11:00AM PST- Ladies, I just heard from the hotel that due to Katrina related weather, there have been three cancellations for Thursday night. Please give them a call if you would like to reserve a room! 800-675-3550.

7:00PM PST: A surprise visit with the "Senior Bachelor"!!

7:30PM PST: Sunset on the Pier- Pictures with each of the Ladies

8:00PM PST: Dinner...

9:30PM PST: The Senior Bachelor "rides" into the sunset... on a girl's bike?!

Umberto arrives in the nick of time-- all the way from Milan! Greeted by Desertflowers, Leslie and Barbara.

Good night-- what surprises are in store for tomorrow?

-joe

Getting ready to start getting ready to come! Looking forward to it.

La Dolce Vida: I have been watching the TV to catch up on the storm damage. KHOU.com has a message board "Hurricane Katrina" for people to post if they are looking for family and/or friends who they have not heard from since the storm went through. You might try leaving a message there, if you have not heard from your Father yet. I hope this will help you.

[BTW -- it has been announced that Houston schools are open to any and all students who are staying here from Louisiana. It is estimated that it will take at least 2 months to reopen schools there.]

Good morning to all............
May I take this opportunity to THANK ALL OF YOU WHO RESPONDED TO ME WITH YOUR PRAYERS AND INFO..

Lady Camp.........Could not get any info from FEMA. Their ph.# doesn't direct me anywhere. It seems it is set up more for victims of immediate need or if they have applied for assitance. Any other suggestions? You sound so knowledgeable and capable.
Hope you make it to CHICAGO.

MOD317............I will try your info next and let you know what happens.

Ceila..........My deepest, deepest sympathy for your loss.I too have a mother that is ill and each day is a gift. I hope your mother's passing was peaceful.

I plan to blog along with everyone else on clickgirls site and also here as ...joe... has requested.

I don't want to bog people down with my issue right now with all the wonderful goings on in MB, so I am going to post a copy of a response I sent to ...Babette... in an e-mail this morning. Individually each may choose how they would like to correspond with me. I will also post it on "clicks" web site.

ALL YOU GIRLS OUT THERE IN MB "PARTY DOWN GARTH".

RICHARD, EVER HEARD THE EXPRESSION" BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR" HMMMMMMMMMM. :):):):):)

Well I'll say toodles for now, keep in mind my e-mail to Babette was early in the AM after 2 hours of sleep.

CHI-TOWN GIRL

Babette,
Thank you so very much for your concern, it's amazing how our priorities can change in a blink of an eye.
I just woke up from falling asleep on my couch just glued to the TV.
The biggest frustration in all of this is not knowing. We have become a global community in the sense of our forms of communication. My computer has become my escape and allows me a way to get my mind off what's happening. I don't want to leave the house in case I might hear something and when I sit here, it is impossible not to sit glued to the TV.
Watching it all just brings it all home how fragile everything we take for granted really is and how we sometimes can get our priorities mixed.
I don't want to post much of this on the "RR" blog, somehow it doesn't feel right. It is so far removed from their event right now I don't want to invade it.
I'm going to put out another post letting people know they can comment on my blog site regarding this issue. I know all have sent prayers for what is happening, but when it is as close as it is for me it takes on a whole different dynamics.
For anyone who has ever been there (New Orleans) the realization of what has been destroyed is beyond comprehension. Yes they will re-build, but it will never be what it was.
I must vent here, I don't understand "what the *!%#@&*!@# our "PRESIDENT" is sitting on his a.. for" Of all the country's that have what it takes to handle something like this we are it. What is he dragging his ass about!!! Whew ! WOW , I needed that !
Lord, then the news is telling me right now 600 people have just dyed in Baghdad stampeding a bridge.
ARE WE PAYING ATTENTION HERE PEOPLE, "someones" talking to us, are we listening ?
Well I guess I should stop dumping on you right now, but admittedly it felt good and for this I both apologize and thank you.
MAY GOD HEAR OUR PRAYERS.

The tragedy of Katrina touches each of our lives. This truly special gathering in Manhattan Beach with Richard and all of you attending and following via the blog can serve as a reminder for all to remember how precious each individual life is and how much each and everyone of us needs to reach out and touch every life we come into contact with a smile and loving heart. This a GREAT OPPORTUNITY for so many lives to join together in friendship and TRULY embrace one another in celebration of the human spirit. Take this unique opportunity to truly make a positive difference in each life that you touch and share your happiness with all.

My daughter's father is one of the millions of people whose lives are directly affected by Katrina. He lived on the beach in Pass Christian, Mississippi, and it is clear from news reports that he no longer has his material belongings but her last contact on Sunday night was that he was moving to safer grounds. We wish him and every other life directly and indirectly affected by Katrina all the love and support that we can give.

We can all make a difference by doing our individual part to show kindness, compassion and understanding to everyone we meet. Have a wonderful and enriching time in Manhattan Beach -it truly is a celebration of all the best that life has to give!!!!!

CB: yeah ..... like who would want all that party stuff ... really ...

Babette: Great to hear from from you. Honestly, my head is definitely DF. I don't drink tea or coffee cause I don't like them but I drink lots of water and regularly have sliced ginger in hot water and what have I not got in the place since I got sick .... yep ..... NO GINGER .... DOH! Thanks for the reminder. Hope you're doing ok :).

Suzanne & Linda: Ok I've decided that for this trip you guys are Thelma and Louise. You can decide which is which .... fight it out between you and hey, keep the gun outta sight ;).

Dolce Vida: thoughts are still with you.... waiting must be unbearable.

Between natural disasters and man-inflicted disasters 2005 has been pretty hard to beat.

Can't wait to see some photos making their way back soon ;)
Joe: are you only going to post official ones or .........?? ;)

BTW who are you guys responding to ie. Old Dog. I must have missed that posting somewhere.

To the person who is going to Burning Man in Nevada ... enjoy ... friends of mine have been and were planning to go again this year but one of them had to have an op. They love it! They had the guy who organises it stay with them when he was in Ireland.

Oh ... and a special Hi to Dale :).

Cheryl,
Thanks so much for the donation of the necklace. I use to be the chairman of Americans in Toulouse and we made an American quilt to raise money for battered women and children every year. The first year we auctioned it off and the second year we sold raffle tickets. The lesson learned was that we raised a lot more money on the raffle - everyone seemed to be willing to spend 10 francs or more. So if you can get some raffle tickets to go with the necklace and sell them at the bracelet table. I think the American Heart Association will be quite pleased with the response. Only an idea and I'm not sure if there is time! Make it a great day ladies....and girls just want to have fun!!!! Michelle

Hey Joe!
You seem like quite the trooper and we all appreciate the minute by minute updates. I'll be there around noonish on Friday (because I work Thursday night.) It will be a pure pleasure to meet everyone and I mean everyone. Michelle

Drae Richard and Friends,

Here it is alomot 2:30 in Tucson Az. I am just now about to pull out of my drive instead of early this AM as planned. Probably getting to MB around midnight now. My Mobil is 520 2476166, in case I come up missing. I am driving my big red and white Dodge Cummings with a camper on top.

Couldn't leave as planned because when I got off work yesturday mid morning, I came home to fine my black horse had a HUGE gash on his upper lip. I finally found a Vet in Mexico that would sew him back together as "Quick as I coluld get him there." You all have no idea how much work that all intailed but finally around 4:30PM I was leaving Mexico with Midnight, his 46 stiches and countless staples. Face stuff will heal well if you can just keep things together. This AM he looks fine and will be good for the caretaker. At least I didn't have to go and come back.

The kites, peanut butter and jelly and water are loaded. (NO bikes) I am finally off on vacation NOW.

Good luck to everyone including ME.

A prayer for all the storm victoms whose lives will never be the same.

Love and Thanks,

Mary Rose

Mary R....drive safely...you are one dynamite lady!!
I grew up with horses and spent many years training, competing, showing, eventing, dressage and jumping etc in the States and Canada so I am more than familiar with your mega struggles with your poor Midnight and poor you! Just getting a healthy horse from point A to point B is big! Plus when they get in trouble it is always BIG trouble. Poor thing I hope he mends well...they don't have alot of patience for injuries!!
Be safe and hope you get a chance to relax when you arrive in MB

Hey Debby......don't spend one second being sorry......all I ask is for you and all to make darn sure you have the time of your lives and I will be ever so vicariously happy...I am very good at that!! I can not think of one of you Bloggette Bodacious Beauties that does not deserve the best, you have more than earned it all and more!! I sincerely wish I could be there to meet you all and play!

Hey BDNC...long time no chat!! How was your "Spa" day?? Good on you for taking time for you! I imagine you are just getting ready to order that Pizza..........eh??

Y'all will have to be very patient with me as I will be Blogging Beaucoup over the next few days...I have alot of work to catch up on so...... that means I am home creating like a mad woman...and so.......that means when my creative side needs inspiration I hit the computer and the SB Blog. I'll bet y'all never knew you were an inspiration to my jewelry...I have actually named some pieces after SB related events!! The piece I sent to MB I named "The Quest"!!

How are you holding out Joe?? I am sure it must be tough, being surrounded by beautiful women, but hey..... someone's gotta do it!! EH?? Might as well be you!! We eagerly await a photo of your mush!

Catch y'all later

Thanks for your words and thoughts.

And even now - amidst all the fun going on in MB, there are so MANY in the coastal South who may not know the fate of their loved ones for ages! How agonizing that would be! Strange mixture of darkness and lightness. Easily rocking our feelings back and forth. One is not enough to cancel out the other completely.

So to all those fortunate enough to be in the Light tonight...Enjoy, and celebrate life and your very good fortune!

To Richard: NOW the DIFFICULT PART BEGINS! Bet you'll be wishing you'd decided to take 100 women at least!!! And the deadline isn't even up yet!

Hey Cheryl: How well you express what is in my heart … about the devastation from Katrina (on the last SB Blog). It is so, so sad.

And … of a happier note – your comments about missing out on MB. Just so happy so many of our ‘Sisters’ were able to make it out there.

Chi-Town … still thinking of you … and hoping you hear word soon about your Dad very soon. And I can’t think a more ‘right’ place for your post. We are all concerned for you … and your words are a wonderful reminder about what is important in life. Thank you for sharing.

The company that I work for has an office in New Orleans – and, so far, we have only heard from one person – of the eight that work there. Our executive team has been trying to make contact … and we are all anxiously awaiting word of their safety. So – along with your Dad, my thoughts are with all of these poor folks who are suffering through this horrible situation.

Dear Celia: So very sorry for you that your mother has passed on. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. May it be of comfort – to know that we care.

Welcome Back SharingTheNight (Wanda)! We have missed you and were worried about you. So glad to see you back online again. Hope all is well with you.

Hi Forest Hill Gail: I don’t know all of the gals going out to MB – but I have gotten to know about 20 of them … and I can tell you … they are great – and will be welcoming everyone with open arms. The thing about this venture is that many of us have become a true ‘Sisterhood’ – and all are welcome to join in! So I am sure your friend will be fine. She is lucky to have a friend like you!

Hey Babette: I think there is actually a camera that is ‘live’ at the Pier in MB. Didn’t Richard send us a link to that one time? I’ll check it out. The gals could run down there and wave at us at a certain time. Ha ha Like they would have time to do that! : )

Hey Metalxmonkey (Leslie’s daughter): Thank for posting! Too funny! For your Mom, “Behave!” (ha ha)

Safe Travels Mary Rose!!!

Okay Debby! Stop rubbing it in!! (hee hee) No – go ahead … Enjoy!

Hey Linda and Suzanne … so glad you arrived safely! Sunset at the Pier … so Cool!! Wave to us from that vid cam there!! : )

Best to all of you!

Celia;
My heartfelt condolences to you and your family in your time of grief. Know that you are in my prayers.

la dolce vida;
Please post a note when you hear something about your father and know that there are many wonderful people praying for him. Prayer can work miracles...

destiny;
I will be looking forward to meeting you in MB. I will arrive Thursday afternoon.

Cheryl/CB;
You are a very special lady and I sure wish you were coming to MB. You will be there in spirit as will many others who could not make this trip. Thank you for your very generous donation, I can't wait to see "the Quest" (such a unique name) I'm sure it's absolutely beautiful like it's creator.

debby eddy;
Sounds like you're having a wonderful time, can't wait to meet you tomorrow. One more sleep for me!

suzanne & linda;
Glad to hear that you've arrived safely.
I read your blog from this morning and thought to myself "not the diamond in the belly button thing!"

Now how can the rest of us compete with THAT!!!??? I just may as well not show up...but I will because I'm curious and I want to meet everyone! You are both so cute and I want to attend your PJ party! See you tomorrow afternoon.

Love and prayers to all, especially to those affected by hurricane Katrina.

Bonsoir Brenda, Bloggettes, Bloggers

I can not find words to describe how vital this Blog site has been over these past few days. I know I am not alone when I say I can no longer watch the news, my heart is so heavy and my feelings of inadequacy and impotence are overwhelming.

Never imagined that I would be running to the computer for my "uplifting and inspirational moments" via the wonderful Bloggettes anecdotes and dialoguing

I am positive RR also never realised at the onset what a truly wonderful gift he has bestowed on us all at a time such as this. To be able to share with and receive support from so many like minded people is a deeply heartwarming experience which humbles me greatly. I hope Richard realises now and accepts thanks!

I also want to send heartfelt thanks to all of my new found Bloggette/Blogger friends for being who and what you are. If it were in my power I would beam us all up to MB to be together...to enjoy, savour and taste the moment!

However.... as that is clearly NOT in my power....we will enjoy these moments vicariously via the Blog (RR's, Clickgirl's etc) and the NNBBSH site....and that is a great thing !!

Get down and jiggy for us homies all you NNBBSH Bloggettes in MB!! Rock on!! Yah!

Wishing you all and more in health, life and love

i'm just getting around to checking out the blogs. here's a little late nite humor.

A man was sick and tired of going to work every day while his wife
stayed home. He wanted her to see what he went through so he prayed:

"Dear Lord: I go to work every day and put in 8 hours while my wife
merely stays at home. I want her to know what I go through, so please allow her body to switch with mine for a day. Amen.

God, in his infinite wisdom, granted the man's wish. The next
morning, sure enough, the man awoke as a woman.
He arose, cooked breakfast for his mate, awakened the kids,
Set out their school clothes, fed them breakfast, packed their
lunches,

Drove them to school, came home and picked up the dry cleaning, took it to the cleaners
And stopped at the bank to make a deposit, went grocery shopping,
Then drove home to put away the groceries, paid the bills and balanced the checkbook.

He cleaned the cat's litter box and bathed the dog.

Then it was already 1 P.M. and he hurried to make the beds, do the
laundry, vacuum, dust, and sweep and mop the kitchen floor.

Ran to the school to pick up the kids and got into an argument with
them on the way home.

Set out milk and cookies and got the kids organized to do their
homework, then set up the ironing board and watched TV while he did the ironing.

At 4:30 he began peeling potatoes and washing vegetables for salad,
breaded the pork chops and snapped fresh beans for supper.

After supper, he cleaned the kitchen, ran the dishwasher, folded
laundry, bathed the kids, and put them to bed.
At 9 P.M. he was exhausted and, though his daily chores weren't
finished, he went to bed where he was expected to make love, which he
managed to get through without complaint.

The next morning, he awoke and immediately knelt by the bed and said, Lord, I don't know what I was thinking. I was so wrong to envy my wife's being able to stay home all day. Please, oh please, let us trade back."

The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, replied, "My son, I feel you have
learned your lesson and I will be happy to change things back to the
way they were. You'll just have to wait nine months, though. You got
pregnant last night."

Suzanne, Leslie, Linda and Zoe: I am SO happy that you all are there and safe!! I am sure you had a great sunset and dinner....I should make it around noon tomorrow and will set up how, when and where to sell bracelets :)....
Glad to hear the rooms are great, and you all better follow through on the pajama party!! I actually went out and bought 'jammies' as I never wear them, lol..And, I realized I have NEVER been to a pajama party before!!
La Dolce Vida: My prayers are with you and your family...I wanted to tell you something that may ease your stress a little...My very best friend in the whole world has a Mom and Stepdad who live in a mobile home two blocks from the water in Biloxi...She has been unable to get through to her Mom and so her sister and husband actually drove there from Pensacola, Fla...Her Mom and her StepDad are fine, and they ony lost the roof to their patio...They have gas and have been cooking for all the neighbors, etc...They still have no phone service to call but are fine...My friend was so worried because some of the newer homes that had survived Camille were gone...Prayer does WORK!! And, most of the time the media does tend to show the worst of the whole thing..That is not to minimize the incredible experience these people have been through, but just to give you some hope that your father is well...My friend's Mom and StepDad went to a school shelter for a couple of days before they were allowed back home..The Mom is 80+ and didn't want to evacuate because of her dog, which I totally understand..How can you leave your animals who are so dependent on you?? Anyway, have heart and I am sending angels your way and prayers...
WE are all so very blessed to have this chance to get to know such awesome women and to have such an incredible experience, even though with all the tragedy it is somewhat bittersweet!!
See everyone soon!!

Hello Richard, Joe and All,

Yes it is amazing how things can change in an instant. I finally have access to a computer and am one of the previous residents of New Orleans. I still can't believe what has happened!!! Just a few days ago I was sooo looking forward to being in MB.

I am lucky to have gotten my mother out of harms way and my family and I are all alive, though seperated. I continue to be an optomist and work hard at never taking thngs for granted but be grateful for what we have, each other, as human beings. Fortunately I have this computer and can watch the broadcasts. Can't believe the horiffic behavior I am seeing!

On a positive note, Richard, Joe and ladies have a great time! I am there with you in spirit! Richard, you must be so excited!

Please post on the blog if Chicago will happen. I currently do not have access to my e-mail.

Best to All!

I am here in MB and so are over 100 ladies here, all lovely. RR seems to be doing well. He will need two weeks break for the next time.
Joe is jumping through hoops keeping us all in line. We are having group meetings with Richard in 15 minute increments. He is even prettier in person!
Suzanne is a real corker - you should see the incredible necklace she is wearing - wish you were here Canadian Blogette!
This is really fun!!!!

Hi Wanda

The pics are under the posting at the top of the blog and also on the NNBBS site under Manhatten Beach.

BTW I wouldn't think you're out of the running cause Richard said he had received your video and was asking for your email address on the blog. I thought Suzanne or someone had phoned you to tell you?

It couldn't be that cold in Montana at this time of year, could it?

Take care

Wanda All participants that have sent in videos and bios are in the running. You did not have to be here to meet Richard to stay in the adventure nor will you be disqualified for not coming. So not to worry darlin. But there are gonna be some broken hearts here. Just a tremendous amount of talented, beautiful, articulate women that are in there 50's and 60's. There are some in there 40's as well, but it is safe to say that RR will be respectful in his mission and search for his soulmate. We have some interesting conversations last night and this morning and I really can't wait to do a little emailing to ya'll. Cj just arrived and I had no idea she was so tall. Very lovely lady, Connie's asking for me so I gotta run. I miss being here to talk with everyone.

I can't even comprehend that we are enjoying ourselves the way we are and having the desvastation of Katrina in New Orleans.

Cathyincarolina,

Where do I begin!

I was one of those people who never left New Orleans for a hurricane but knew to this time. If you get a chance watch CNN and you will be able to get a sense some of the destruction. 80% of New Orleans is under water, sometimes more than 20 feet. For the first time the President declared that this is an "Incident of National Signifigance". Not only is the city shut down, but over 1 million people have been rendered homeless. The economy is seriously impacted, gas availability, pipelines etc. Hotels are filled to capacity in surrounding areas. There are @##$%*^ animals who are looting and shooting in the city, but now the National Guard is there to help.

Personally...my mother and I will drive to DC to my youngest daughter's house. My middle daughter is a nurse in NO and has been at the hospital since day one. Oldest daughter is in Phoenix. All family and grandchildren are fine. We have had an outpouring of offers for living accomodations from everywhere.

Believe it or not, the one suitcase of clothes that is with me was packed for MB.

Happy that I can distract some attention to this blog and see picutres of the goings on. Excited for Richard, Joe and the participants. I am hoping that maybe I can go to the Chicago festivities, depends on of course othere situations and what will happen with work.

I still consider myself to be blessed!

Richard, Joe and all, have a blast.

Thanks Joe and Bachelorettes !! For all of the great 'reporting'! It's so fun to see that you are all having fun!! And Richard - you look like you are really enjoying 'the Girls'! : ) So fun!

Welcome Callmelin! Glad to have you joining us!!

Hey Popcorn222 (Angie). Haven't seen you around much lately. Good to see you on the Blog ... and thank you - for sharing your situation with us. So glad that you and your family are safe. It will be a pleasure to meet you - if I'm able to make it to Chicago!

Like everyone else - it's hard to see all of the devastation from Katrina ... and it is just almost beyond belief. I just saw a special NBC report - and I can't even really write about it at the moment. The company that I work for has (had - ?) an office in New Orleans. We received word today that our execs had made contact with 6 of the 9 employees. Three have not been reached. We have a pretty good 'contact system' set up for employees - for situations like this (here in Tampa - we have a designated group to call everyone after a storm - to make sure everyone is okay - and I suspect our NO office has the same - so it is disturbing that no one has had contact yet - and I am concerned for them). I don't know these people personally - but my heart goes out to them - because they are part of my work 'family'.

Chi-Town ... you are in my thoughts!

Warm regards to All!

Glad everyone in MB is having such fun! It should be a great weekend.

Joe, or anyone else, can you tell me why only the first two photos came up on my screen? The rest stayed blank. Could it be my old dial-up just couldn't handle it?

Take care all, and keep everyone touched by Katrina in your prayers!

Joe, thanks for taking the time to post the pics. I had a hard time downloading as I have dial-up. However, I allowed it time to download (sloowly) but in the end it was worth it as all pictures came through okay.

Richard, you are so handsome :) Can hardly wait to see tomorrow's pics; esp. from the PJ party!

Carol in Riverwoods, here's a tip. Right click on the blank pic and then select 'show picture'. That will allow the picture to appear. It is a slow process on dial-up, but it will eventually appear in full technicolor.

It's late and Coach aka Sharon just arrived - we were com paring things and I think she won. Go to www.nannynannybooboosisterhood.com to see. The day ws very busy and Richard had and unbelievable amount of energy for an ole'geezer. He spent the morning sharing his time during breakfast with all of us. Just chit chatting. The rest of the day was spent with ladies waiting to have an audience with him privately or in pairs. Linda and I opted for tomorrow in hopes it will settle down. DebbieEddie is a hoot with an infectious smile. MaryRose chose her black leather pants with a sequins top and sequins hat and looked hot! Linda wore her belly button ring and was the first winner of a door prize which was ironically a bottle of wine. GRIN. Leslie, Dancing Girl, were beautiful for the evening and CJinSOCAl was here supporting the charity of our choice. Dinner was excellent and RR is now down sitting by the fire talking to women in the lobby. He is unbelievable - having fun, miss talking to everyone.

Linda took a picture of the beautiful gift I received from Cherly that literally made my day. it's on the boo boo site.

I've met just so many women atleast 75 that I have talked to personnally and all are so lovely. I didnt see any men except the two front the gym and I videoed one doing 20 pushups. GRIN Hot Hot Hot, of course there wre the 3 surfer hot dudes that wanted by us as we were walking up the hill from the beach and we gladly let then go by and remarked on how much better the view had gotten. whoolalalalal they enjoyed our comments even if we were old geezerettes. LOL

Hugs Kisses. Suzanne

TEXT MESSAGE PLEA TO THE WORLD!!!

“No Water, Sick, ... Call Somebody for Help.”

Update on Memorial Hospital
by Karen O'Keefe Thursday, Sep. 01, 2005 at 3:06 PM
karenokeefe@justice.com

The horrible situation at Memorial Hospital in New Orleans continues to worsen. Democracy Now! reports that yesterday Prof. Bill Quigley sent a text message saying: “No Water, Sick, ... Call Somebody for Help.” I believe that was somewhat after he described the situation as "lethally chaotic" in an interview with the Chicago Tribune.

As the Chicago Tribune reported, "People have been breaking windows to let in fresh air as temperatures inside the hospital rise above 110 degrees. Garbage and soiled linens lie strewn throughout the building. Most toilets aren't working."

It also reported: "Earlier Wednesday, [Bill Quigley] said, nurses carried critically ill patients up darkened and slippery stairways to the eighth floor, where they were told helicopters would ferry them to other medical institutions. But the helicopters never came, and staff had to bring the patients back down."

Here are articles on the situation in Memorial and other hospitals:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-050831hospitals-story,1,5213336.story?coll=chi-news-hed

best wishes to you all,

MyriaminVA

Angie,
I am glad your family is ok. when you get to DC, I would love to meet you. I am about 15mn away.
Send me an email at silver_lyrians@hotmail.com and I'll give you my phone number.

I have been appalled as the lack of responses from our federal govt to what been happening in NO and the coast. Red tape and the lack of coordination is unfortunately how the govt works (or doesn't)!!!
I've been very happy to see journalists asking tons of very relevant questions! Many congress will wake up.

Ladies, Richard, Joe, Umberto
The pics are great. You all look so beautiful. It is incredible to have all of you in one place and I can understand how it affects the energy of the place. Joe, your organization skill is tremendous. I can see that Richard is striving in your company. Not you, Joe, sorry, the ladies! Umberto, are you still alive???

Hugs to all, Myriam
