BLOG SCOOP!! Meet The Senior Bachelor Tour

The blog has the advantage of hearing news and events first as it takes a while to prepare Newsletters. Early next week, a Newsletter will be sent announcing that the first Meet The Senior Bachelor Tour will be in Los Angeles (actually 10 miles south in Manhattan Beach) Thursday, September 1, and Friday September 2, at the incredible Ayres Hotel, a luxury boutique hotel which will make you feel like you are in Italy!! Please go to www.ayresmanhattanbeach.com for hotel details. There will be a very special Senior Bachelor room price; $109.00, which includes a full breakfast. I am working on finalizing the details for a cocktail party Thursday and Friday evenings from 7-9, followed by a buffet barbecue. And folks, this will not be a regular barbecue!! There will be a cash bar and the dinner will be at a very reasonable price. All details will be included in the upcoming Newsletter, but I wanted to tell my fellow bloggers asap. Manhattan Beach is a very special beach town with amazing beaches and many things to see and do. This is right before Labor Day weekend, so perhaps you want to make this a mini-vacation!!! Tentatively, notice I said tentatively, I will be in Chicago Thursday and Friday and Saturday, September 8,9, and 10. Details to follow also in a Newsletter. At the moment, due to time constraints, these are the only two planned visits. Have a good weekend. Richard Roe

Is this an open invitation to anyone who has sent/will be sending all the necessary information to you?

Is the special SB hotel rate for a single room or a per person double occupancy?

Would love to come and meet you (and the other wonderful ladies I've met on this blog) and will try (if it's open to all). Too bad you couldn't have made it Saturday and Sunday instead, as a lot of us have to work.

It should be a great weekend for all involved.

It's my understanding that the L.A. trip is open to all interested parties, right? Unfortunately I'm in Alaska for the summer and getting ready for a trip to Tuscany in Sept. otherwise I'd be there in a N.Y. minute. Anyway, sounds like loads of fun, and good luck to all. Your observations of the Vietnamese people on their bikes, etc reminded me of the time my late husband and I were in Taiwan while he was stationed there with the US Navy. We enjoyed many a Pedi-cab ride.
Ciao for now....KJS

Richard: Forgive me for questioning the "rules" here, but I'm a bit confused. Suppose someone has already sent their video, you filed it in the "no way" pile, and they go thru a bunch of hoo ha to get to CA. Seems like this should be more of a personal invitation thing? Since the focus from the beginning has been on those who sent in complete packages, what do you do with some gorgeous babe who shows up and wants to chat you up? Tell her to send in her audition tape first? Sounding like a free for all hon. I'm pretty sure you know who I am, and I'm only about a 9 hr drive from you which is doable. How about you give me a (possible) "yay" or a "nay" before I invest too much more here? Much appreciated!

Dear Richard and Friends. I agree with Linda the Nurse and Linda in Tucson and my name is Mary Rose. There is nothing wrong with cocktail parties, weekend/or any day get a ways, even retreats but certainly Richard will have a guest list for these events. He said on Oprah and all along that he was considerate and so far has been.
It is getting closer to Sept 16th.

Good questions! First to my Canadian friends and people from other countries, while it is not 100% I will not visit other cities, it's unlikely. Not that I don't want to-I do-very much, but it's just not probable. I wanted to be sure there would at least one "East coast and West coast" meeting opportunity. I don't have a "no way" list, and the meetings are open to everybody, whether they have sent in tapes or not. For sure priority will be given for meetings to the women who have taken the time to send in tapes and biographies. Because I have never done this before, I have no idea how much, or how little, time I will have to meet with people. To that extent I will not encourage nor discourage anybody from coming. I certainly have spoken with people on the phone (pre-SB) and was totally surprised, either way, when I met him or her. I'm sure we all have had similar experiences. I understand this is expensive and time consuming-if you have to fly in and pay for a room for a night. I wish there were other ways of doing it. However, this seems to be the only realistic way. Everyone should know that not coming to a face to face meeting will NOT preclude anyone from being selected. There still may be time from September 16 on, as the trip will not begin until sometime in November. (probably) I realize I don't want to miss both Christmas and Thanksgiving with my children and seven granchildren. My best guess as of today, is the trip will start soon after Thanksgiving. Bottom line- EVERYONE is invited. Remember. this is about having FUN. The idea that many of you women meeting each other for the first time, and maybe make lifelong new friends, is a wonderful thought. Please bear in mind this is a heads up, and as everything else, subject to change. I have some other business to attend to (not related to Senior Bachelor but to Pop&Me) next week, and I'll be traveling from Monday to Thursday around the country. I hope to get the Newsletter announcing this published early next week as well as the first Cruise Newsletter. (wow, was that idea well received!!) That's it for now. Any other questions, put them here and if and when I can I'll try to respond. Cheers, Richard Roe

To anonymous, Richard clearly stated that people who sent in videotapes will get priority for meetings. Didn't you see that? And if you, in fact, sent materials in, why don't you e-mail Richard and ask him directly? I know for a fact he answers e-mails from the women who sent in tapes. He's always answered my e-mails.

Ok. Now that last comment was a pretty good one. Yes, I do answer e-mails from everyone who has sent in videotapes and biographies. So, why still be anonymous??? If you have sent in the materials, I will know that, and respond to your question. Be my guest. Incidentally, the anonymous who last week commented about feeling "ripped off and was going to withdraw her submission" never did that. Methinks she never sent anything in.

The Sept. 1-2 get-to-gether
sounds great.

However, I have a prior commitment (a lot of bucks involved) which would prevent me from considering those dates since it is from 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m. daily and 3000 miles away.

I checked the Sept. 8, 9 and l0 dates which would work better for me, but would make for a very long trip (5000 miles), yet appear to be less expensive (at this point at least). I think the price break requires 14 days in advance booking and I could probably schedule some other east coast business at that time as well.

When will the Sept. 8, 9, & 10 dates be less "tentative?"

Enjoy! Have a great time.

Now, the weekend of the 8th, 9th and 10th September is a good one,
should you decide to arrange for a Senior Bachelor Partayyyy with Oprah, your 'posse' and the gals
from the Blog, would be faboolous
and easy for me to get to Chicago from 'tarana' moneywise, easier on me too! I hate to say this but my financial position does not permit me to do much other than pay my bills and cover the necessities, that is why my pending Settlement will be a GIFT and give me that slight edge to not being dependant on anyone! Helluva way to get a Settlement through an accident!
My work is Community Work AM and PM therefore the salary ain't top dollar by no means, but the work is THE most rewarding feeling in the world! I believe honesty is the best policy, I would love to meet YOU and your 'POSSE' no matter what the outcome! :)

The meetings in Manhattan Beach (and I hope Chicago and any other cities I can get to) will be open to women of all ages. In fact, I encourage women to bring friends, even if they are not interested in being on the journey. I am trying to make these events as much fun as possible for everybody. Please bear in mind my Mission Statement of "Promoting Romance and Adventure for People of All Ages." Anyone interested in the journey however, will have to be at least 40, and I think I've made it obvious in many communications, that I feel the age women that makes the most sense for a man of my age will probably be 50 and over. That certainly does not preclude anybdy 40 and over, I am just doing my best to communicate how I think things will occur. And, I have consistently said, this is all new to me, and things are subject to change, while here in the States, and on the Journey. Having said that, I think there have been few changes, and all of the target dates still seem good. I will say I have been incredibly impressed by how many wonderful women there are that have submitted information. This has been a most pleasant discovery and I am very grateful. Now comes the hard part!!! Best wishes, Richard Roe

Hi, Richard, and ladies. I have a question for you, Richard, that all might be interested in knowing the answer. I went to the hotel website (the Ayres is lovely!) and tried to make a reservation on-line. However, there was no "Senior Bachelor" listed for a "group rate". The $129 rate is the only rate quoted. So, before I make a reservation, would you please check with them about the on-line reservation process?, or should we just call them? OR, is there a "group code" that we should put in the box? Thanks for your attention to this nitty-gritty detail!! ahhhh, don't you just love the "chores" of life...the life that we are creating for ourselves, huh? regards, sharon

BDNC I really liked your post "One Flaw in Women" HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN, IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH. So true!
I have a litte post it on my computer that reads "I am just as giving to myself, as I am with others" I think many of us need the reminder.

Tango Lady...your info on the level of cleanliness and sanitation as well as bathrooms that are so bad ...that the bushes are definitely the better alternative, brought back some memories. I remember being in small towns in South America seeing sides of beef covered with flies, just hanging from stands in open air markets. People washing their clothes on rocks down by the river. The "laundromat" in town consisted of rows of carved stone rocks in which hot volcanic water was pumped to and you could wash your clothes on those rocks, not having to go down to the river. (A modern convenience in that town!) As far as going to the bathroom in the bushes. Travel John makes a disposable resealable urination gel pouch. It has a funnel gadget at the top, which is great for women. Also bring little bottles of hand sanitizer, because of lack of sanitation. It really comes in handy. Of course there is always the fallen sapling that you could hang your bum over if the other kind of emergency bathroom visit is necessary. (or if you don't have strong legs! HAA) Once you get out of the cities in those third world countries, you can pretty much get an idea of what some of forefathers did without modern conveniences. It is very very interesting to see how much of the rest of the 3rd world lives, and really makes you appreciate the luxuries we take for granted in this country.

Just another quick travel story. While in Russia, (which is not a third world country),I was having lunch in a very nice restaurant. I was doing a Baltic Sea cruise thing and one of the woman opened the bathroom door and discovered a stainless steel room with a hole in the floor and a footprint outline on either side of the hole. Well everyone had to see the hole in the bathroom floor and many giggles and photos ensued. I guess you could see why women used to wear dresses!

Seeing how others live makes me feel very fortunate and more understanding why others in the world act the way they do. It's very humbling. It is sooo different in some places that you can see why we will never have a meeting of the minds. I try to pass on a smile as I am representing a country that is very foreign to many and also very misunderstood. Most people are just out there trying to live their lives the best they can. Just give a beggar in a third world country the equivalent of a dime or a quarter....They will bless you up and down. Makes you think hard about the value of money.

So i thought i'd post it here as well.

It's quite long but worth reading

A Little Reminder to Women

By the time the Lord made woman, He was into his sixth day of working overtime. An angel appeared and said, "Why are you spending so much time on this one?"
And the Lord answered, "Have you seen my spec sheet on her?
She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have over 200 movable parts, all replaceableand able to run on diet coke and leftovers, have a lap that can hold four children at one time, have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart-and she will do everything with only two hands."
The angel was astounded at the requirements."Only two hands!? No way!And that's just on the standard model? That's too much work for one day.Wait until tomorrow to finish."But I won't," the Lord protested."I am so close to finishing this creation that is soclose to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is sickAND can work 18 hour days."The angel moved closer and touched the woman. "But you have made her so soft, Lord.""She is soft," the Lord agreed,"but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish." "Will she be able to think?", asked the angel. The Lord replied,"Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason and negotiate."
The angel then noticed something, and reaching out, touched the woman's cheek."Oops, it looks like you have a leak in this model.I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one.""That's not a leak,"the Lord corrected,"that's a tear!""What's the tear for?" the angel asked. The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her pain,
her disappointment, her love, her loneliness, her grief and her pride."The angel was impressed."You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything! Woman is truly amazing." And she is! Women have strengths that amaze men. They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy. They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous. They fight for what they believe in. They stand up to injustice. They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution. They go without so their family can have. They go to the doctor with a frightened friend. They love unconditionally. They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards. They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding. Their hearts break when a friend dies. They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left. They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart. Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you. The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning. They bring joy, hope and love. They have compassion and ideals. They give moral support to their family and friends. Women have vital things to say and everything to give.
HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN, IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.

Travel tip from the wise:
Should you travel to non potty friendly countries the absolute BEST thing to take are these fabulous anti bacterial sani wipes for every part of your body! They come in individuallly wrapped tiny packages, great convenient size to throw a few in backpack, pocket, wherever. So much lees bulky than a bottle of anti bacterial wash! Fantastic for the face, hands, body etc on hot days when there is no runnning water around and every pore in your body is manufacturing sweat at an icredible rate! There is also another kind that is specifically for "potty" trips, anywhere, anytime.........absolutley GREAT and a very essential travel companion!

I hope everyone understands that the meeting in Manhattan Beach (LA) September 1 and 2 is open to women of all ages. However, I will only meet with women that are of the right age bracket that we have discussed many times, and will give priority to the women who took all their valuable time to send in videotapes and biographies. PLEASE, commenters, PLEASE read the earlier comments and blogs by me, as I am answering questions that have been clearly addressed previously. Thanks. RR

Well thank you for clarifying that info. So all ages of women can come and no men? LOL This is lovely. It was a little hard to understand at first because of the statement you made "Meetings are open to Everyone" But now I certainly get it and if you have time you get to interview some of those women who didn't send in videos.....but those who did get priority.

Will this meeting be filmed?

hi richard,
i think that's fair on how you're going to do the meeting in manhattan beach, giving priority to the ones who have sent in materials. and even if people come who are younger than what you're looking for, at least you're opening it up to them to come and have fun. i know the emphasis is definitely on meeting you, but maybe some ladies can bring some of their men friends along that they've been talking about bringing to the cruise, after all, your motto is "promoting romance and adventure for people of all ages." so there could very well be other adventurous romances that stem from those evenings. who knows? what do u think ladies?

Richard Just one more quick question that some of us ladies are thinking about but afraid to ask.

Dress code: We would of course, want to present ourselves with our best foot forward, but don't want to be pretentious either. So could you please tell us what the appropriate dress code will be for the BBQ/Cocktail Party?

Will this be filmed by any media or privately? May we take our own pictures?

Thank you so very much.

You can buy me diamonds
You can take me on a cruise
Make love to me tenderly
Baby, you know I am worth it

A real man knows a real woman when he sees her
and a real woman knows a real man always come first
A real man just can’t deny a real woman’s worth

I will hold on to your ship when things get rough
Let's take a walk near the ocean shore
We should cherish the life we live
The world is always changing
Nothing stays the same
But love will stand the test of time
The next life we live in remains to be seen
Will you be by my side?

When I first saw you, I already knew
There was something inside of you
Something I thought that I would never find
I’ll give you love
The things you want
Baby, there is nothing in this world I wouldn’t do
I will do anything boy
Anything for you
Thanks for choosing love

Come away with me in the night.
Come away with me and I will write... you a song.

Come away with me on a bus.
Come away where they can't tempt us..... with their lies.

I want to walk with you, on a cloudy day.
In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high.
So won't you try to come.

Come away with me and we'll kiss, on a mountaintop.
Come away with me and........ I'll never stop loving you.

And I want to wake up with the rain, falling on a tin roof.
While I'm safe there in your arms.

So all I ask is for you to come away with me in the night.
Come away with me.

For the ladies coming to Manhattan Beach September 1 and/or 2, the dress is "beach casual." 95% of the time, all year round, I am in shorts, t-shirts and sandals, as are most people. You can go to the best restaurants in MB dressed this way if you would like to. I hope to have the Newswletter out tomorrow (Monday) with all of the information. Best wishes, Richard Roe P.S. By all means, bring male friends if you would like, and as I've mentioned, women friends as well. Let's make this a fun party!!

Aloha Richard:)
A lovely cool morning, light rain, seasons changing as we merge into the Fall which is a beautiful season here in Ontario with the vibrant colours of the leaves, start changing approx.late September through to the peak end of October, people come from overseas to see the Fall. August can bring more humidity! Manhattan Beach sounds amazing, I like the casual vibe all year round, this Toronto 'thing' with suits, ties etc. is for 'the birds'. From my perspective there is a hell of a lot to be said for sucessful business deals 'clinched' on the Golf Course, at a Resort or living in a place such as Manhattan Beach, Malibu Beach etc. It is not necessarily what you wear but the ATTITUDE that is THE KEY! They started the Casual Friday thingy happenin' here a few years ago, whoopy doo one casual day, but I could see how it made a difference re. the demeanor of ALL!
Luckily I dress casual for both my workplaces, thank goodness:)ahh for the California West Coast chillin' vibe...like it!!!! A different world altogether!
Looking forward to the Newsletter with more "BLOG SCOOP":) and as always here's to 'Romance and Adventure For People Of All Ages':)

Good Morning, Ladies! As you know, I make very few comments on RR's BLOG, but I do enjoy tuning in every so often. You ladies are very entertaining! It is easy to see many of your personalities come alive in this medium. It is also easy to see who is just having fun, and those who are TRYING to have fun, but there is a certain amount of uneasiness, even fear, with this big adventure. Guess what? ME, TOO! To the outside world (casual acquaintances, bosses, etc.) I am seen as dauntless, not even flinching as I move ahead into uncharted territory…but deep inside me, I am quaking with fear. What? A Public Speaking professor and professional coach should be fearless, right? WRONG! But that is why I‘m proud to be 58. It took me years of living, trial and error, to learn how to “fake it till I make it”.
After reading your comments since Friday, when Richard announced his “Meet and Greets” in LA and Chicago, now I am motivated to speak up...and pass on some of my hard earned “wisdom”…so here goes!
Every time I feel scared, I practice getting into the moccasins of the perpetrator of my fear. Ladies, think about how worried Richard might be. O.K., I am going to make some conjugations, here, using some pretty big assumptions. However, if I am wrong, I KNOW Richard will correct me. So, let’s just assume that Richard is scared, too. He has all these hungry women chomping at the bit to meet him, and, since he is hungry, too, he jumps in! But, Ladies, Richard is a smart man. Somewhere way back in the BLOG, he said the party was open to “ALL (sic) genders and ages”. Many of you became focussed on the “ages” part and missed the “genders” part. How many of you are familiar enough with the sport of fishing to know what a “feeding frenzy” is? It is fascinating to watch it atop the water, but you don’t want to see what is happening to the “object of their affection” under the water! Richard has said repeatedly (ad nauseum) that he has never done this before and is making it up as he goes along, getting lots of ideas FROM YOU as he invents this process. Frankly, his vulnerability, his accessibility, his adaptability, and his willingness to see his pet project mutate, is what attracts me to this inventive project! I find it totally endearing. O.K., so he’s naïve, but he is NOT stupid. OF COURSE he wants us to bring our friends…ESPECIALLY our rejects! Someone, who is not my cup of tea, may be someone else’s! I have several wonderful men friends, but two come to mind immediately, one 59 and one 68, who are my good friends and great guys. They, too, are “looking”, and would be great “catches” for some of you! When I told them of this project initially, they were hesitant to get involved, but now that I have described the feeding frenzy that will occur on September 1 and 2, they agree with me that they need to help ‘ole Richard out a bit! And Richard has no concern about “loosing” any of his admirers…he has Oprah, fame, glory, and tickets to fabulous trips in HIS back pocket. And, sadly to say, if left to a “feeding frenzy” there are those among us who will purport “romantic feelings” for Richard in order to have a chance at a trip! And that would only defeat Richard’s previously stated original goal. Look, he has also said, repeatedly, that his goal (2nd only to finding “the one”) is to promote romance and adventure for all "ages" (but especially over 40). Let’s help him do it! Those of you in SoCal…bring your male friends, ex’s…anyone who is also looking for romance and adventure. Shoot, I said “So Cal”, but some of you might have a guy-friend who would even pay for both of you to get to SoCal for this great adventure/opportunity---HEY, there is no harm in asking!
Now, I selfishly must say (this is only “coach” talking): please make sure they are over 40. I have dated my share of younger men...it is a lot of fun, but I know going-in that it will not be long-lasting. In order to facilitate the search for a long-lasting relationship, I look for the men who have already been “trained” by learning from past mistakes. I am not looking for more travel…I am looking for a soul mate, who just happens to like traveling. Let’s help each other find Mr. Right (NOT "Mr. Always Right"—sorry, couldn’t resist the old joke here!) I am looking forward to introducing you to my handsome hunks, and I am looking forward to meeting yours…after I check out Mr. Roe, of course! Regards, Coach
P.S. to Richard…O.K.…I will “stand corrected” if I’ve interpolated your intent! I await your decree!

THE HORMONE WARNING:

The Hormone Hostage knows that there are days in the month when all a man has to do is open his mouth and he takes his life in his own hands! This is a handy guide that should be as common as a driver's license in the wallet of every husband, boyfriend, or significant other!

DANGEROUS: What's for dinner?
SAFER: Can I help you with dinner?
SAFEST: Where would you like to go for dinner?
ULTRASAFE: Have some chocolate

DANGEROUS: Are you wearing that?
SAFER: Wow, you look good in brown.
SAFEST: WOW! Look at you!
ULTRASAFE: Have some chocolate

DANGEROUS: What are you so worked up about?
SAFER: Could we be overreacting?
SAFEST: Here's my paycheck.
ULTRASAFE: Have some chocolate

DANGEROUS: Should you be eating that?
SAFER: You know, there are a lot of apples left.
SAFEST: Can I get you a glass of wine with that?
ULTRASAFE: Have some chocolate

DANGEROUS: What did you do all day?
SAFER: I hope you didn't over-do it today.
SAFEST: I've always loved you in that robe!
ULTRASAFE: Have some more chocolate.

Very interesting Posts of late and 'food for thought' For sure there is a degree of 'fear' as we ALL have submerged ourselves into
'unchartered waters' (the cruise will cure that feeling ;) it is the element of the unknown at play here especially with a Mission as serious and important as finding one's Soulmate. Let us not forget what Richard said much earlier on in one of his Posts " This is all about having FUN" and yes the 'feeding frenzy' syndrome is certainly a reality considering the amazing 'package' here! I trust that Richard being a man of the world having experienced the 'school of hard knocks' as most of us 50+ have, he is firmly rooted at the helm!
A reminder this is a new experience for me too and as the saying goes 'don't push the river'
when it comes to being vulnerable and open in wanting to meet that special someone! I think it is INCREDIBLE what YOU Richard are doing in bringing people together, not only thinking of yourself but sharing with the world, that is admirable!

Dear Richard and Friends,

I am wondering out loud if I am the only committed applicant who has had her completed file in, followed all the rules and is now questioning what chances do we have if we can't join the last minute flock at this California Open party or even Chicago, to add our 2nd Bio's to the growing stack.

Humm--Am I the only one with this gut feeling about an impulsive decision?

Richard, remembering how this all started, with our romantic relationship goals and dreams, and actions, will you address this concern, please?

Sincerely,
Mary Rose

Mary Rose,
You are certainly not alone in these thoughts. I am one of those committed applicants.
I am sure there are many many more of us who are thinking the same thing.
It was very courageous of you to say this.

i'm new to the blog, and am still feeling my way around. i've visited other sites to get to know others through their profiles and comments (really good and very interesting sites), and even to help me understand how to set up. but i still need a little help.

i would appreciate any help. thanx.

I would like to put out a hugs and support message.
The Oprah show is airing the follow-up show they did on CJSOCAL Tuesday morning. The promo's are not nice and I for one from the first time did not like the way the show handled everything and especially how CJ was treated.
I think we should give her the support she needs , this will probably bring attention on her again, the kind she doesn't want. Let's be there for her.

RR-- I think what we ladies imagined when you stated you would be going to cities to meet us was a face-to-face meeting with you and the panel to gather more information about our interest in each other. I don't think we expected this general meet'n'greet event, so this is why you might be getting this reaction.

I guess we figured the "promoting of adventure and romance" would come more AFTER you had taken care of the "One Man's Search" part of the SB venture.

Changing the subject back to travel stories, I can’t resist sharing two of my favorite TTT’s (Travel Toilet Tales) …
Early one beautiful morning on a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon, I settled down on “the throne” which consisted of a wooden plank with a hole in it, straddling a large metal bucket lined with black plastic garbage bags. The whole thing was enclosed in a canvas 3-sided teepee with the open side facing the river. As I took my time, enjoying the trill of a canyon wren and the view of the mighty Colorado with a 1000 ft. canyon wall across from me, suddenly three rafts filled with people floated by. What could I do but pretend to be nonchalant as I returned their waves! Somewhere there’s probably a zoom lens photo of me enjoying one of the best bathroom views in the world!

A friend and I were hiking on a 'Wanderweg' between mountain villages in Switzerland when suddenly nature called. I scrambled up the hillside by the trail, but unfortunately the trees all had tall, slender trunks … much more slender than my body … with no shrubs or any kind of undergrowth. But I couldn't wait, so dropped my hiking pants and squatted, knowing that anyone coming up or down the trail would get a great view of my bare behind and what I was doing. Sure enough, suddenly a group of five enthusiastic, sturdy Germanic- speaking hikers appeared. They stopped to chat with my waiting friend as I scrambled to zip up my pants and get back down onto the trail where they all met me with big grins. And then one of the men whipped out a flask and a handful of shot glasses, and poured a round of schnapps for all of us. If I hadn’t had to “go”, they probably would have said Guten Tag, passed us and been on their way, and we would have missed out on that free drink!

Happy travels to all ….

I find the "marketing" and "selling" aspect so very challenging as each piece of jewelry I create is so personal and has a little piece of "me" in each one.......just as your paintngs I am sure..not easy!
Cheers and welcome again

GOOD AFTERNOON TO ALL!
TANGOLADY - Those were two funny 'tales' (pardon the pun!) Not the best way to garner a free schnapps, but it could have been worse! At least you had a friend to run interference! (I've also learned from childhood, before the individual Handi-Wipes, and other packets, to keep an almost finished roll of toilet paper either in the car or pack. Sometimes depending on the country and food, a little moist towelette just isn't enough!!)

sunni - Welcome and nice photos of Portland. Drove through there a while back. Love that part of the country! I saw it snow on Crater Lake in mid-July! That was a treat for some of my visiting family from Brazil that had never seen snow before!

I agree with RR about answers to questions most of us already know. Maybe we can help him out, and either answer them, nicely, ourselves or point them in the right direction. (I'd rather RR be going through all those tapes and bios he has to go through than reading our blogs and stopping to chastise).

Have a great day all! Take care!

A roll of toleit paper story: On a trip to Machupicchu to observe the summer solice in the city of Cusco, June 1995. We were watching a very crowded parade when my friend said that his camera had been stolen and at the same moment I noticed that my backpack had been sliced open. I was sick but after checking the contents should see that only a broken pair of sunglasses and a roll of toilet paper were missing. Ever since that incident, I have very large safety pins inside my back-pack so it can't be slit. I had more toliet paper in my suitcase..I never travel without several rolls.

Dear Richard,

Thank you for addressing my/our concerns.

I do read everything available through your Senior Bachelor sight.

I asked for an up date because resolutions are usually stronger at their birth than at any subsequent period.

Good Luck with your current Pop & Me activities. I have showed your documentary twice at work now. The group discussions that followed were awesome. Comments continued long afterwards.
Thanks for helping many people you will probably never meet.
Happy Trails

To itchyfeet35:
Hi!
I was in Cuzco and Machu Picchu in 1998 (Christmas time), and that was exactly where I had in my memory the need for extra toilet paper! I was with 2 other girlfriends and we traipsed all around that area. Did some white- (brown-) water rafting down the Urubamba. From swallowing that water, or was it the food?, it was patently clear I was right in having brought toilet paper! Between the three of us, later in a bus with no "facilities", nor t-paper in many of the public facilities, my friends were very glad I brought some along! Didn't you just love their special, huge, white corn with farmer's cheese?! Not the most sanitary way of eating, but that's what Immodium is for!! Let's you enjoy trying the local foods!

Tell more travel stories! You, too, Tangolady!!

Forest Hills: Don't you just love travel stories? I lived in Europe in the early '60s. I still have letters I wrote to my parents on(toliet paper)particulary France, that we called waxed paper or writing tissue. My parents used to send me SOS packages with real American soft toliet paper. The best present I ever got. I'm easy to please. Funny, but I thought you might be thinking of Peru...guess great minds think the same.

Mary R I think that is so cool that you showed RR's film of Pop and Me at work. Was it for the patients or the staff? Because I think it certainly would have some healing properties connected to the farther and son influence on every son out there.

Richard Hun, you know I'm the impatient one....so please don't get uptight, upset, peed...off, but I'm just about ready to have a corinary waiting for that new Newsletter.

Just read the second part of your story from Easy Reader and in my opinion you seem like you might be a pretty nice guy, but I would be concerned about your concern for your other half. i.e. was reading about how Chris got sick and he felt like you wanted to press on with the Pop&Me Film...please don't take this as negative either...but it does raise the ole eyebrow. You also make it pretty clear what you're looking for, non-pretentious, casual, athletic, tom-boyish kind of woman. I'm all those things with the exception of tom-boy oh and I would like to be athletic to a point. I do have some fear of heights so the bungie jumping is a definite no go. LOL

Richard as we get older it would be nice that we both could depend on each other and have some common interests, like traveling.

I don't care about what you drive, how much money you have or really what you look like as long as you are basically nice to all people, clean-cut, and love and respect the other half of you.

I'm trying to get at least 7 women from all over to come with me to check you out. LOL But we need to have the Newsletter info so we can make our plans.

I already told you I'd be happy to come to California to meet you to see if there is any interest from either side so here's my chance. You didn't respond to that message, so I took it as you're not interest. Anyway, I think there will be more opportunities for me if I keep going. I shant give up until I find the right one.

Hugs Suzanne

Dear Friends,
Time for one more short visit here.

Desertflower, The first time I showed the film was mostly for patients. The talk afterwards included some administration wanting to schedule a second showing when more staff could attend. It was again very well received. Who knows what is next?

Briefly: I remember making an "Impulsive decision" after parking my car on a side street on Okinawa. I quickly stepped out the passenger door right into the unnoticed open, full flowing Bingo ditch. Instantly my butt, legs and one hand were submerged in 2+ inches of raw sewage. As I sat a brief moment, (Without toilet paper) the little children started to appear in a line. I looked up and saw sandaled feet, various sizes of black kimonoes, hands over everyone's mouths and the whites of multipal pairs of apprehensive eyes peaking from under the black hair, expressing "What is that dumb American going to do now?" That same quiet stare struck me from so many different heights that I started to smile. That smile was all they needed to rush in, help me up and out of the shit. Then they almost collectively drug me to the back of their hut where they magicially produced and offered me an even larger kimino as a change of clothes so they could wash me and my shorts while offering me tea. I spent a wonderful 2 hours there as the school children practiced their English. It was unexpected and wonderful. I revisited their family as a friend many more times. I have never open a car door without looking since.
Glad to say--no pictures!

When in a mess, smile.
And have fun!
Mary Rose

Mary R...Now that's a travel story! I guess you have an imprint of the smells, excitement and glory of that special moment, forever. You made the most of a bad situation...the kind of friend everyone should have with them on a trip. I'll remember to look when I get out of the car from now on too. I remember my(ex) husband decided he wanted to leave a hotel in a hurry and walked right out into a duck pond. He was not as gracious as you, Mary. He made a big scene in front of his colleagues. We all laughed at him though.
