Bad News- Diagonsis Prostate Cancer
Hello Everyone,
[I have asked Joe to post the following message after sending out a newsletter this morning with some distressing news.]
It is now 10:00 AM Wednesday morning, January 11, and I am in Santiago, Chile. In one hour I will get the results of a biopsy which was taken one week ago testing for prostate cancer. Ordinarily, I would tell only my close friends and family should the results be not good. If ok, I would have told virtually no one. I decided to write this before I knew the results, because I felt the information would get out one way or another, and I wanted there to be only one official story. Here is that story.
Two weeks before I left on the Journey my PSA, a blood test which can indicate the threat of prostate cancer, had jumped up 50%. This is not a good sign. I took a re-test a week later, and the same bad results. I was prescribed an antibiotic and told to have another test in 4 weeks, which I did here in Chile two weeks ago. Prior to leaving LA, the urologist in LA felt the odds were that I did not have cancer, and if I did, I could start the treatment after the trip was over. I also did not want to disappoint anybody, so I decided to start the Journey. The results here were still bad. I consulted my urologist in Los Angeles, and the urologist here, and they agreed that I was now in a high-risk category and should have a biopsy performed. Last Wednesday I had the biopsy procedure. Folks let me tell you, getting a biopsy for prostate cancer is not a pleasant experience. I wisely took my doctor's advice and spent the night in the hospital.
In one hour I will know the results, and my bags are packed to come home if that is the recommended course of action. My bags are also packed to continue the trip. I did tell Gael about this as there have been numerous trips to the doctor and hospital here in Santiago. Of course Umberto knows as well. The following paragraph will have those results.
I have just returned from the hospital and I do have prostate cancer, and to make things much worse, it is of the aggressive type. Only more tests will determine if it has spread. The urologist's advice here was to return home immediately, have scans done, and then have the appropriate treatment.
I have just made my plane reservations and will be arriving in Los Angeles Thursday afternoon, January 12. Naturally, I am shook up, but equally upset about disappointing Gael, Lori, Vija, and Cindee. Gael will be flying home in a few days, and Umberto back to Italy next week.
One dreads hearing this type of news, but it is what it is. My Irish grandmother Ryan used to say "never complain and no moaning." I will continue to send out the Newsletters once a week and make comments on the blog and make plans for the cruises in August to Alaska.
I am also sorry to disappoint you, the blog and Newsletter readers.
Sincerely,
Richard Roe

Dear Richard,
I haven't written on your Blog for many months ... but, as a cancer survivor (coming up on my 5 year anniversary next month), and someone who has heard the 'C' word as well - I just felt that I had to write here to tell you that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I will pray for you to have the internal strength to fight this battle ... and Joe is so right - in that your mental attitude will be key in helping you to get through this. And having a strong support system - with Joe and your family and friends - will be such an amazing strength for you as well.
May God watch over you and undergird you ... as you go through this process. And may the knowledge that you have many who will be sending positive thoughts your way, be of comfort to you.
Sincerely,
Brenda
Richard,
I am thinking of you and praying for you.

Dear Richard I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Know that I, too, have you in my thoughts and prayers. Your health is of utmost importance so do everything your doctor tells you. And remember how many lives you have touched, especially in this last year or so. You WILL get through this. It's just a big bump in the road but sooner than you think, you'll be cruising those highways again. Hugs from Leslie
Dear Richard, I am sending up some messages to Saint Patrick to look after you. I know he will, and you will beat this!! I just know you will!! "May the roads rise up to meet you, May the winds be always at your back, and may the sun shine warmly upon your face". This part of the Irish Blessing. Take care! Lady Jayne

are in my thoughts and prayers!
Please don't worry about disappointing
any of the FF, or the rest of us who are

on your treatment and recovery.
My brother also had the most aggressive
type of Prostate Cancer, and he followed
all of his doctors advise, surgery, radiation,
etc. and it's been 7 years now for him, free
of the disease. His cancer had even spread
beyond the prostate. And now he's back to
skiing and sailing and living the fullest life!
Modern medicine CAN treat this very well,
so have hope and faith that all will be OK.
And don't forget HUMOR...the healing power
of humor is well known...so stay tuned to

Dear Richard -
I read the news this morning and know that you will beat this. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I, too, am going in for a biopsy this afternoon. It is for a thyroid nodule, which is probably benign. They just must "prove" this, in medical lingo.
I have lurked on the Senior Bachelor since I saw you on Oprah many months ago. I did not apply as I just did not feel I was as adventurous about travel as was needed, but really wanted to meet you as you are the REAL DEAL.
I have been divorced for over 15 years. The divorce was a nightmare, which continues to haunt me financially to this day. My wonderful son is now 24, and it is time to have a life again. I am still working 2 and 3 jobs, but your adventure, which I have enjoyed vicariously, has really made me realize this. I thank you so much for this and wish you the very best as you enter this new life phase. I know you will beat this as your spirit and attitude are 150% of what is needed for the battle ahead. Will keep you in my prayers and look forward to updates on Senior Bachelor.

God is on your side. His promise is that He will heal all of our diseases "psalm 103:3. This is the kind of battle only your creator kind see you through. Be smart!! call on Him. He is waiting. Richard, I want to weigh in as one who has experienced a similar cancer diagnosis. Yours is for prostrate cancer, and I, of course, don't have a prostrate. Mine was for uterine cancer...you see where I am going regarding the areas where our diagnosis differed?!
However, mine, like yours, was an agressive, fast moving, level 4 cancer. When my concerned friends observed my calm approach to the matter, they told me that perhaps I didn't understand the seriousness of my circumstances. I replied that, yes I did, and if I thought it would do any good, I would buy the biggest box of worry beads I could fine, and pass them out to everyone I had ever said "Hello" to. Obviously I did not think that was the solution.
The important thing is early detection and NOT TO DELAY treatment. I quickly scheduled surgery with someone so specialized that all he did was cancer of the female reproductive tract. If I had been a breast cancer patient, he would not have been my surgeon.
Before surgery, I had been told that I would need both chemo and radiation treatment in way of follow-up.
My cancer was a stage 1 (level 4). Stage 1 means we got it early. They removed all the cancer with surgery. I DID NOT NEED CHEMO! I did have three radiation treatments as sort of an insurance policy.
No one knows better than I how lucky (blessed)I was. I have always been grateful that my experience was so easy.
And, I know without doubt that I was saved from more unpleasant follow up (chemo) because we caught the cancer so early.
Early diagnosis and the best medical experts you can find are critical!
You have done the only thing you could by coming home.
As a footnote, I had to ask my daughter last week just what year I had my surgery. It was right before New Years 1998-1999.
Cancer does not define who I am. It is something I have had, and could have again, but it is not who I am.
And, it is not who you are either.

Wow Richard,
Problems, problems!
Looks like the week before leaving on THE journey, you had a bunch of bad news. Cataracts and a 50% increase in the PSA!! 50% of what?
All men will eventually get prostrate cancer, if they get old enough. This may be at 110 years. 64/65 is too young!!
Waiting for all the tests to get back will be an awful time for you.
You are in our prayers!
I AM WISHING YOU WELL.
To all my friends on RR's blog, I have started a prayer chain for Richards recovery, if you would like to join in visit my blog site and add your name to the list. Sign in as often as you'd like. There is power in prayer and even more power in numbers.
My first prayer is for Richards complete recovery and that he remain strong in the days ahead.
RICHARD I know that I have not been on your blog for a very long time. It has come to my attention om my site the news of your ailment and I would like to wish you the best and a speedy and complete re-covery.
MAY GOD BE WITH YOU and I will keep you in my prayers.
Francesca aka Chi-town girl
Richard know that our thoughts are with you and prayers are for your complete recovery. Take care.
Dearest Richard!
I am so sorry to hear about this news, you are in my thoughts and prayers 24/7. I have had the strongest feeling over the past few weeks to meet you for whatever reason, even just to thank you for being the 'trailblazer'/catalyst for removing the stigma attached to the term 'seniors'. I will remain a friend on your blog as long as it exists and G-D Willing look forward to meeting you one day in the not too distant future!
G-D Bless You and guide you through this to 100% perfect health! You are VERY SPECIAL!

Dearest Richard,
We are saddened to realize that Prostate Cancer is another one of the "Man Things." A few years ago I heard that over 60% of men over 60 years old were affected by it in some form or another.
As you hear encouragment from so many of us survivors (From one hardship or another), You will come to agree that a curve in the road doesn't mean the end of the road unless You don"t change directions.
I am reminded here of Phillis Diller's advise,
"NEVER GO TO BED MAD. STAY UP AND FIGHT"
On this stage of LIFE, your "Mission" just might have been changed again.
So strange of me to be reminded of and writing this now, BUT, several years ago, when I was on Oprah, for the 2nd time and she and I were talking personally, she told me that she was no different except that Millions watched her decissions and actions. What & what she did was so important.
From that moment on, when ever I have a hard decision to make, I make it as if Millions were watching my, because my decision or action could air nationally. In looking back, that "Tool" has never steered me wrong.
She also told me that she counted on Wonderful Staff to do their jobs and help her.
I pray for your continued Courage and Willingness to accept Help and Love from others along your road. We each have our part. May we do them the best we can. Others need to see our Courage, Strenght and Faith.
As you have already found out, you are not sure Who is watching you or how you have/will affected them.
Today is the beginning of the rest of our lives.
At this point, "Love" and "Hugs" are the only 4 letter words I want to use.
Love and Hugs

Dear Richard,
Along with your many Blog Readers, my thoughts are with you, and i will certainly be lighting a candle for you and sending you healing thoughts. Your Irish Grandmother's advise is sound, but sometimes it is hard not to complain a little bit, and it IS allowed.
I look forward to hearing from you soon ... keep up the good fight, and don't lose faith.

Richard arrived safely from Chile today (Thursday) around noon. He went home briefly and then directly to a doctors appointment. We'll keep you posted. I am so heartened by the outpouring of support for Richard. You are all terrific!
-joe
Richard, you have all of us supporting you. Have great faith because prayers work wonders. Take care of yourself.
Wow, I am overwhelmed by so many kind words of support. I have received well over 600 e-mails in the six hours that I have been back in the U.S. I apologize for not answering any yet, but I will over the course of the next week.
The first e-mail as from my eldest son, Richard, who will come up from San Diego and spend the weekend with me. Second son Chris walked in the door with arms full of groceries within an hour of my arrival with all kinds of health food. And in 30 minutes number 3 son Gabby, is picking me up to take me out to dinner.
Never having been in this position before, I can assure you it all helps!!!
I will start a series of tests tomorrow, starting with a bone scan. Due to the type of cancer I have, surgery is probably the best option, and I will be interviewing doctors to see which kind of surgery will give me the best chance for recovery.
In POP&ME Julian Lennon said "Man plans and God laughs." I'm sure Julian did not originate this quote, but it resonates with me right now.
SINCERE thanks to all of you who have so faithfully followed along this Adventure. Who knows, perhaps some good may come from this. I will keep in touch now that I have access to the blog again. Richard Roe
Richard,
May God shower you with His Blessings on your road to recovery.
with love, hugs and prayers for you
When I got home this afternoon and turned on my computer...the sad news hit me...I thank Richard for being so open and honest and sharing his very personal health issues with all of us. I'm glad that he was wise enough to see his doctor and follow through with his exams, tests, etc. So many ignore the symptoms for fear of what they may find out.
I hope that each of you visit your doctor regularly? Get those paps and mammograms...they could save your life.
love and hugs/goodnight

Hello Richard & all,
"Man plans and God laughs" is such a perfect quote which describes everything.
Myself, along with all the other SB gals, are so disheartened by your sad news today and we feel so priviledged that you are sharing all of it with us. It seems that this type of cancer is not uncommon in men your age so I am hopeful that they have come far in their treatment of even the aggressive kind. Just be glad that upon finding out about it you took action to head home regardless of the SB adventure. That took guts but was the right thing to do. We are ALL praying for your full recovery and with your positive attitude and necessary treatment we are sure that you will come through it. Never could anyone imagine that this would be happening but somewhere there is a purpose to what is taking place and you will be guided to where you should go so just flow with what is going on right now and be glad that you have such a large prayer chain and so many friends in your corner. That is well beyond the imagination.
God be with you, Richard and thanks for sharing this with us. We feel closer because of your courage to do so.
My blessings to you on your road ahead. We are all here for you.
Hugs,
Chandra
Bev,

Richard,
I don't know what to say. I will just type and let the thoughts free flow. What a burden for you to suddenly confront and come to terms with............ An unexpected chapter in the book of life.
I was going to wait until tomorrow to communicate because you must be overwhelmed right now. Not to mention jet lagged and exhausted. On the other hand, I wanted you to know that I cared and was thinking about you.
You are strong. You are determined. You are positive. You will lick this. It is not an uncommon thing to have.
There will be a happy ending. Besides, look at all of us cheering you on and praying for you.
Hugs...............vija
Dear 'Pop' and Friends,
Everybody's freightened a bit. But how many of us just go through the fear and do it anyway?

Richard, I wrote to you about a prayer chain starting across the US for you and now there is one here (callmelin) starting and God will hear our prayers. I know your children must be very frightened about the unknown, but isn't it wonderful that you not only have your family and close friends, but the extended family of Senior Bachelorettes. God works in mysterious ways. God Bless You. Karen
By my own experience, do not be surprised by the power of "PRAYER".
As I read the blogg, I am sure many, many more individuals have placed you in their minds and prayers. Let this carry you. In my dark hours, I always remind myself; "This too, IS passing."

THEN A PRIESTESS SAID, SPEAK TO US OF PRAYER.
AND HE ANSWERED, SAYING:
YOU PRAY IN YOUR DISTRESS AND IN YOUR NEED; WOULD THAT YOU MIGHT PRAY ALSO IN YOUR DAYS OF ABUNDANCE.
FOR WHAT IS PRAYER BUT THE EXPANSION OF YOURSELF INTO THE LIVING ETHER?
AND IF YOU CANNOT BUT WEEP WHEN YOUR SOUL SUMMMONS YOU TO PRAYER, SHE SHOULD SPUR YOU AGAIN AND YET AGAIN, THOUGH WEEPING UNTIL YOU SHALL COME LAUGHING.
WHEN YOU PRAY YOU RISE TO MEET IN THE AIR THOSE WHO ARE PRAYING AT THAT VERY HOUR, AND WHOM SAVE IN PRAYER YOU MAY NOT MEET.
THEREFORE LET YOUR VISIT TO THAT TEMPLE INVISIBLE BE FOR NAUGHT BUT ECSTASY AND SWEET COMMUNION.
FOR IF YOU SHOULD ENTER THE TEMPLE FOR NO OTHER PURPOSE THAN ASKING, YOU SHALL NOT RECEIVE:
AND IF YOU SHOULD ENTER INTO IT TO HUMBLE YOURSELF, YOU SHALL NOT BE LIFTED:
OR EVEN IF YOU SHOULD ENTER INTO IT TO BEG FOR THE GOOD OF OTHERS, YOU SHALL NOT BE HEARD.
IT IS ENOUGH THAT YOU ENTER THE TEMPLE INVISIBLE.
I CANNOT TEACH YOU HOW TO PRAY IN WORDS
G-D LISTENS NOT TO YOUR WORDS SAVE WHEN HE HIMSELF UTTERS THEM THROUGH YOUR LIPS.
AND I CANNOT TEACH YOU THE PRAYER OF THE SEAS AND THE FORESTS AND THE MOUNTAINS.
BUT YOU WHO ARE BORN OF THE MOUNTAINS AND THE FORESTS AND THE SEAS CAN FIND THEIR PRAYER IN YOUR HEART.
AND IF YOU BUT LISTEN IN THE STILLNESS OF THE NIGHT, YOU SHALL HEAR THEM SAYING IN SILENCE:
"OUR G-D, WHO ART OUR WINGED SELF, IT IS THY WILL IN US THAT WILLETH.
"IT IS THY DESIRE IN US THAT DESIRETH.
"IT IS THY URGE IN US THAT WOULD TURN OUR NIGHTS, WHICH ARE THINE, INTO DAYS WHICH ARE THINE ALSO.
"WE CANNOT ASK THEE FOR AUGHT, FOR THOU KNOWEST OUR NEEDS BEFORE THEY ARE BORN IN US:
"THOU ART OUR NEED; AND IN GIVING US MORE OF THYSELF THOU GIVEST US ALL."

Soft rain, you expressed how all of us feel so eloquently. Richard has definitely become a very "special" person to all of us, and with the love and support of his family, friends, and now his extended SB family he will overcome this, his greatest challenge.
Lance Armstrong's book about his cancer battle is another good read in fighting the good fight.
Joe, we will be watching for your continued updates. Richard is fortunate to have such a close friend in his corner.
Strength and Love, Karla
I just got an email from Gael and she is shaken about Richards news. She is on her way home today. She was really taken by Richards concern for disappointing the ladies at a time like this.
Gael is a really classy lady and I am glad she was there for Richard when he needed a true friend.
From Umberto (for some reason he cannot access the blog in Chile):
Dear Ladies and SB followers,
Well, some news-- but please trust me when I say that your favorite
Bachelor, Richard, is the kind of man that looks fear right into the eyes and says: "I'll fight you with all my power". Life does not
intimidate Richard-- he takes it step by step, day by day, trying to make the best out of it. He'll take good care of himself so that in no time he'll be back with all his great stories and adventures, for him and you!!!
I'm still in Santiago de Chile, with good old friends who always take wonderful care of me, waiting to go home on the 19th-- by "home" I mean Italy, where I'll start working on some personal projects and of course waiting news from Richard. Cold winter is waiting for me, but two days after I get there I'll be already skiing and waiting for my beloved surfboard to arrive from sunny California-- Surfing during the winter? Well, yes-- shy surfable waves there appear only during the winter!
Some have asked what I have learned by standing next to Richard-- well, a LOT! Just the 3 months spent in California for me have been like going to the best university ever! Then came the trip, and I guess my work speaks for me in that case. Last night I received an e-mail from Richard who was apologizing for the interruption of the trip! Can you imagine? I just told him to forget that and focus on what he has to do now. He has already given enough-- and I think I can speak for ALL of us, right?
Clementina and Ettore are doing well, but Clem is acting a bit strange lately-- something might come up! I'll let you know.
Ciao for now,
U
Umberto!
You write with such sensitivity, strength and feeling! Good to know Clementina and Ettore are getting on! It could be Ettore's headscarf that is bothersome to Clementina, reminds me of a song from one of my favourite rock bands Aerosmith
singing 'Dude Looks Like A Lady'!
Enjoy the rest of your stay in beautiful Chile with your loving friends. Yes, Richard is certainly a Mentor of good standing and INTEGRITY ;)good Karma for you Umberto!
Arrivederci
Ciao
valerie
p.s. keep taking photographs and post some of where you live, would love to see!
Good afternoon everyone!
I don't know if anyone saw the Dr. Phil show today, but I wanted to tell everyone about a couple at the end of the show. They had been high school sweethearts until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942,and went on to lead separate lives. Well the young man found her listed on Classmates. com and contacted her. They were married two years ago when both were 79 years old! After 62 years, they found each other and rekindled their love for each other, and spoke of the marvelous life they now lead, mostly traveling across the country visiting their respective families.
One thing the woman said that made me smile was ' You're never too old for love! '
It made me think of all of us, and I wanted to share so we all know to keep the spirit alive!
THANK YOU RICHARD, WE ALL LOVE YOU!!!
Karen JW
Umberto: Clementine acting up, maybe something in the water? -- or maybe she just misses her relatives...
Thanks for all the lovely photos,
cheers for now,

Richard I am so very sorry about this news. I will pray for you and if you need anything or if I can do anything for you, please don't hesitate, I will be there for you.

Dear Richard,
I'm one of the many who has followed your adventure from the very beginning; I met you in Chicago, but I seldom blog.
Thank you for being so open and honest with all of us. Even in your hour of difficulty, you have given each of us a valuable gift, that of your trust and the sharing of your real self.
I am joining with all of my sisters on the blog, lifting you up in the power of prayer.
There is a depth to this whole adventure that has astounded me. Know that you have the love and support of a multitude cheering you on as you run this unplanned race. The golden cup awaits you.
XOXOXOXOXOXOX and MUCH LOVE,
ilene
Dear Richard....I can only speak for myself but have a feeling others have been dazed by the initial news of your prostate CA,like me!!. Your integrity is exhibited by sharing your very personal physical dilemma with the WORLD. There are many of us out here across the country in the medical arena with various backgrounds. Please be assured that there are successful outcomes. Be easy on yourself, it is a given that you will experience the stages of grief related to your condition. The response from everyone on the blog is like surfing the wave to carry you through to saftey as Umberto can relate to. Your family, friends and the world is there for you. Energy like that is the ultimate. Accept our gift of love to you and embrace it. You are a lucky man. You said to me,
GO FOR IT! back at YA!

OH, See you in Alaska, on the Seniorbachelor Cruise!!!
Richard,
My prayers and thoughts are with you as you go through these unfortunate times. We never know what life has in store for each of us and we need to take one day at a time!! You are a survivor!!! Hang in there and hold onto your faith. You know there are many of us who are very concerned about you. You have given us so much, now it's our turn to give back to you.
Hugs,
Linda P.
Wow, again. Over 1,000 e-mails, and dozens of calls. First I cannot tell you how helpful this is. My world changed when in Santiago at the hospital, Dr. Pinto started out the bad news saying "Richard, your life is about to take some dramatic changes from here on in."
I am sorry I have not had the time to answer anybody, but in time, I will. My Newsletter next week will have a giant "thank you" for all of the wonderful support. I truly feel that we are part of a new, extended family.
I had a very important test Friday afternoon. It is called Nuclear Medicine, and it is a bone scan to see if the cancer has spread. Of course this has everything to do with the type of treatment/operation to be performed, and what ones chances are for beating this nasty piece of business. I will let you know once I know the results. And, yes, I'm nervous as can be. Ciao for now, Richard Roe.
Good morning Richard,
I was just thinking; If you need some thought to cheer you up, just think of the picture of all of us rocking the ship, dancing on the cruise in Chicago! The fireworks, the dinner and conversations, the line for the slow dancing, and best, you, Joe and Umberto, out there shaking it in a sea of women who adored you all!
It was the best time, and I'm hopeful we'll all be able to shake it again in August!
Love Ya,
Karen
Hey Richard,
Do you remember the look you gave me at the end of the National Anthem, when I sang 'and the home of the Mets? ' :):):)
Karen
Dear Richard Good morning to you, Good morning to you...We're all in our places...with bright shinning faces and saying a prayer for you. This is true....Mary C. and Mary B. had lunch at the Olive Garden yesterday and we said a special prayer for a very special friend named Richard Roe. If it wasn't for you I would have never made friends with Mary C. and she is a delight so thank you. I hope you have a wonderful week end enjoying your sons and family. We love you loads....MM
Dearest Richard....MAN OF INTEGRITY!
We don't always SEE the BIG PICTURE and the TRUE MISSION that G-D has planned for us! I hope our Sister Oprah knows about the winds of change on your journey as I feel you will be a guest of HONOUR on her show again. You are a BEACON OF LIGHT to the world and an example of the words "we cannot afford the luxury of a negative word or thought"
Sending you Healing White Light and LOVE

Dear Val, I go in Hilcrest at 6;30 am Mon. morning....have surgery that morning and after recovery room I go to a real room where they will be getting me up to walk the same day...I only spend one night and go home sometime on Tue. I will be in a brace when out of bed and when in bed will have a cold pack,,,,looks like a small pop cooler with ice in it ,and it plugs in and blows cold air on the back($240.00) I hope I can use it for something else later... Maybe I can bring it out to Richard if he has surgery. My sister will be up tomorrow to spend a week and my daughter is taking off too so thank God for family. Thank you for caring. You are a sweet, sweet lady. Mary Corbett brought me a beautiful get well basket yesterday. I am so glad we have become friends. She's an RN so if I have any problems she told me to call and she'll be here to help. She volunteers at a clinic called the dream center for people that are needy...She teaches there...What a wonderful person she is. Anyway, I will be off the blog for a week as my computer is in the bedroom my sister and brother in law sleep in so don't think I'm gone because I'm not here. I'm taking my kids, grandkids and greatgrands out for lunch tomorrow tho just in case it's my last....Just kidding I'm getting well and fit so I can dance with Richard on the Alaska Cruise.I have faith we will both be just fine. Love to all, Merry Mary P.S. I'll get my daughter or Mary Corbett to give you a report in a day or 2 after surgery.

Hi Richard Heavens! No one expects you to answer all those emails. It should just be enough to let you know how many people truly care. By all means, read the emails to boost your spirits, but don't bother answering them. We all understand. The most important thing for you right now is to rest up. I'm glad the doctors are moving quickly to figure out which course to take.
Here's something to calm your nerves. Okay, now sit down, look out over your beloved Pacific Ocean, count slowly to 10, close your eyes, imagine floating, and feel my hands gently massaging your neck and shoulders. Wait 10 minutes. Relaxed? Good...now carry on. :D
SWEET MELODY.
AS MY THOUGHTS SAIL
ON A WARM BREEZE
TOWARDS YOU
THEY SWIFTLY DRIFT
AS IF A SWEET, SWEET MELODY
TO SEEK YOU OUT TO NO END
I SHALL GENTLY CRADLE YOU
AND FILL YOU WITH A SWEET ELIXER
OF PEACE AND LOVE
AND YOU SHALL TASTE THE HONEY
SWIRLING AND TWIRLING
MY THOUGHTS WILL SURROUND YOU
SHIELDING YOU FROM HARMSWAY
COCOONING YOU WITH GREAT ENERGY
LOVINGLY MY SOUL REACHES OUT TO YOU
ILUMINATATING THE ROAD AHEAD
BY YOUR SIDE I SHALL REMAIN
AS IF A MIGHTY GLOWING LATERN
AND WHEN YOUR TRIALS ARE TO GREAT
I SHALL POUR MY STRENGTH INSIDE YOU
FILLING YOU WITH GLORIOUS POWER
YOU SHALL PREVAIL AND CONQUER
AND IF YOU BEGIN TO STUMBLE
I SHALL REACH OUT TO YOU
AND SWIFTLY LIFT YOU HIGH
A BIRDS EYE VIEW TO UPLIFT YOU
AND SHALL YOU GROW WEARY
AND WANT TO GIVE UP
I SHALL BREATH NEW LIFE INTO YOU
MY LAST BREATH SHALL BE YOURS
WE ARE INTERTWINED
AND WHEN ONE LIGHT FLICKERS
THE ANOTHER SHALL GLOW FOR TWO
NEVER FAR BEHIND SHALL I BE TO THEE

Hi MERRY MARY, Much good luck on Monday with your surgery. Will be thinking of you. Hi RICHARD!! Keep your chin up and try not to get stressed out. St. Patrick sent me a message and he is watching over you every minute and you will be O.K. Take it easy. Lady Jayne
sweet sweet ladies
thank you for your kind words
Dear Richard, and Dear All,
after 2 weeks of being in dire pain i FORCED myself to out for a short walk...i was hardly gone half a block when i looked up at the silver-lined clouds; to my surprise i saw two Bald Eagles (in the 5 years i have lived here, this is the first time i have had an eagle sighting in this area!)-- i was so excited i kept pointing to the sky to alert the cars driving by to slow down and have a look.
The eagles were soaring higher and higher, moving eastward... what a magnificent gift for me today ~~ i think this is a very auspicious sign and want to share it with you!
Love and LIGHT, fight the good fight, stay strong...
PJ
Dear Dragonflyfilly!
Dire pain for two weeks must have been unbearable for you, hoping as the days go by your pain will cease. I send you White Healing Light too. Do you have Quartz Crystal? Place it in the sunlight on a window ledge for a day to cleanse it, then in the water when you bath. Epsom Salt is also very good for drawing out pain, approx. 1 Tablespoon in bathwater.
Luv and Hugs

Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades.
Over the years they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures.
Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards.
One day they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said,
"Now don't get mad at me....I know we've been friends for a long time.....
but I just can't think of your name!
I've thought and thought, but I can't remember it.
Please tell me what your name is."
Her friend glared at her.
For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her.
Finally she said, "How soon do you need to know?"
Hi, It is now almost 10:00 PM Saturday night, and I have finally accepted my condition. I have been so overwhelmed by the incredible support I have received from my fellow bloggers and over 1,000 e-mails, my family and friends, and they keep coming in. This helps-a lot!!!
My 3 sons have been awesome. Rich came up from San Diego this morning, and Gabby and Chris came to the beach and we hung out all day and even played 2 hours of beach volleyball. Thus far my condition has not slowed me down and I never had any indications (yet) that I have this nasty piece of business. I have a preliminary report on "the big test" seeing if the cancer has spread, and I think it looks good, but I have to hear this officially from the doctor.
I had dinner again with my 3 sons and Gabby's wife Lauren tonight, who is super. Tomorrow morning all of us will go to Chris and Jill's house for breakfast and then it's back to all day at the beach.
So no need to feel sorry for the old Senior Bachelor. I have my wonderful family giving me lots of love, and over 1,000 women writing in support. Hey, this isn't so bad!!!
I will have lots more information in next week's Newsletter, probably going out Tuesday. Ciao for now, and again, my SINCEREST THANKS TO ALL OF YOU for being so gracious to me. Richard Roe
Hi Richard, I am mailing you a card and if you can spot the ducks you will win another dance with me on the cruise. Now isn't that something to look forward to????
Family is great. I'm glad you are enjoying yours right now and I believe you have lots and lots of caring hearts right here on the blog family you have created. We love you very much and wish you a speedy road to recovery. I am going to meet my kids for brunch so gotta get around. MM
INTERTWINED FATES...
Sometimes when I feel disconnected from the world, my actions seem as though they are of no major consequence, and that I exist in my own vacuum. But my simplest thought or action, the decisions I make each day, and how I see and relate to the world CAN be incredibly significant...
I'm aware of an invisible connection that binds everthing on earth-- people, animals, plants, the air, the water, the soil, the universe...
Seemingly insignificant actions on my part, whether positive or negative, CAN have an impact on people and the environment which at times seems entirely separate from my own personal realm of existence...
When I'm conscious of this interconnection between all things, it helps me think of my own choices and life in terms of the broader effect I may be creating...
At this moment I’m imagining a wooden stool... the wood was once part of a tree, which was part of a forest. A person was paid to fell the tree, another to cut the wood, and another to build the stool. Their income may have had a positive effect on their families, just as the loss of the tree may have had a negative impact on the forest and the animals that made that tree their home...
When I give an encouraging word to a young person about his special talent, I hope it will influence this child to develop his gift so that someday his invention or presence on the planet will positively affect the lives of millions...
A poem or personal thought written "merely" to express oneself has the power to comfort 'physical strangers’ thousands of miles away (thanks to internet communication) by helping them feel less alone and knowing that there is someone else who feels exactly the way that they do...
Staying conscious of our connection to ALL things helps us see our choices in terms of the broader impact...
Remembering that we are intimately connected with ALL things, and understanding our power to affect our world, may be the first step on the path to living our lives more consciously...
YOU ARE POWERFUL ENOUGH THAT WHAT YOU DO AND SAY CAN REVERBERATE THROUGH THE LIVES OF PEOPLE YOU MAY NEVER MEET...

January get-together cancelled in Paso Robles
I regret to inform everyone that our January get-together is not going to happen due to some conflicting schedules but....we will try to make something happen in the Spring! maybe March or April? Maybe we can get together in San Francisco, spend a night there, then head south to Santa Cruz...spend a night there, then head down to Paso Robles...spend a night here...and end up in LA or even San Diego depending on how many days we're talking about? We can pick up new travellers along the way or we can all travel together! How does this sound? We have lots of time to plan something so let either Lin or myself know if you might be interested.
We'll post something when we get some feedback...so let us know if you have any ideas for our"Travelling get-together" on my blog or on Callmelin's...thanks
Richard,
It's good hear that you are out playing beach volleyball with your "boys". Do what makes you happy, keep positive thoughts and remember that we care.
Many healing thoughts and prayers are going out for you 24/7.
Thank you for thinking of us too.
Richard,
One never knows how they will react in a situation like you have been presented until they live it. You are taking the posture I hope I will take if ever challenged in such a way by keeping focused, positive, faithful and active.
My prayers will continue for your quick recovery and your prevailing positive attitude.
In the meantime, what a beautiful Sunday you have planned. Sweet!!! Life can't get much better than a day like that.
An invisible hug is wrapped around you...hope you can feel it!!! Not just from me but from those of us to whom you have brought great joy and hope.
Tricia from Chicago...sending my best wishes.
Richard,
Have you ever found that we may follow one path and then find ourselves being lead down another? I am feeling that the purpose of your adventure has extended beyond finding a soulmate and into the realm of love and support that is needed during such a time as this.
My prayers and thoughts are with you as you "scale the mountains" of recovery.
Well wishes.
Trudy
Carol in Phoenix said... I have been in total shock about Richard's condition. I have been wanting to write to you, but felt you needed a few days to "figure it out." As one of the finalists in The SeniorBachelor search, I was given the wonderful opportunity to get to know Richard by spending time with him in MB...along with the other finalists. Richard was a gentleman and will always be honest to a "fault." Richard has a kind soul and a stong sense of self. You are capable of focusing on what is important and making it happen. I know you will face this "bump in the Road" to recovery with the same energy and committment we have all seen from "The SeniorBachelor"
Richard, please know that I am praying and hoping to hear that your "nasties" did not spread and that you will be on your way to recovery sooner than later. All my best to you, your family, Umberto, and Joe. Warm Regards, Carol
Richard,
Sorry to hear that you have had a detour on your road, but I am very hopeful, with everyone else that it will be a great learning experience and not the "Bad News" that it initially seemed.
Mentally, just feed the positive thoughts and ignore fear, this is good advice irregardless of what you are going through.
I have just heard about a plant that has recently been allowed in the US (it is from the region that you have visited, Amazon). It is called Graviola and is reportedly effective against cancer cells. The information did specifically name prostrate, as well.
I have just begun to read about it on-line and cannot tell you much, but it sounds like a great addition to any therapy. Of course one's diet is very important, esp. at a time like this.
One of the sites that I found is Graviola.org, start reading there. As I read, if I find anymore great sites, I will e-mail them to you, with graviola in the subject line.
Richard,
Glad to hear you are still SYMPTOM FREE!!! No pain or any physical disabilties to slow you down!
Will the Doctor's official report of the scan reach you today?
We are all hoping with you for good news.
Beware of over the counter supplements and medications, they can make claims of anything without the back up of true information. And they never mention side effects.

Hello to everyone.
Richard, sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
I work with a world famous prostate surgeon named Dr. William Catalona. You may find his web site helpful. Go to DrCatalona.com
If I can help please contact me.
You will get through this.
Sincerely,
Anita
Hi All, I am in the process of writing a Newsletter to go out tomorrow. I think the Subject will be.....THANK YOU...... A big shout-out of thanks to all of you. And I will know the results for sure of the bone scan by then. Ciao for now, Richard Roe
Hi Richard! I am positive the scan will be clear as it seems your doctor has been on top of this right from the beginning. So sleep well tonight and know that many hands are folded in prayer for you.
Dear Richard:
I am so shocked and sorry to hear of your news. Please keep your hopes up and know I shall pray for you. Love and best wishes for your speedy recovery, for you are special to me. Haven't you been taking Saw Palmetto? Men are to use it at a certain age, tomatoes, watermelon and pineapple are excellent supplements. Relax, think good thoughts as the mind heals the body. Kisses and hugs to you and your family.
Richard,
A year ago my brother had the same problem.
He searched for the best doctor and got the doctor that developed the PSA test. That doctor is in Chicago and my brother is cancer free and still able to be sexual active, which can be a side effect if not done by a doctor who knows what he is doing.
If you would like the dotors name and phone number for a second look, e-mail me or write in my blog and I will send you the information.
If it were me I would go to the best.
My prayers are with you,
Marty

Great news, Richard! Just home from school and read your newsletter- see? I told you things would look good. Take care of that nasty little business and then onward to "promoting romance and adventure!"
Hi All,I just had my first meeting with a U.S. urologist. Pretty scary actually. He said the identical thing the doctor in Santiago, Chile told me. And that is given the type of cancer I have, surgery is the best option, and the robotic "DaVinci" gives the best chance. I have an appointment tomorrow and Friday with two more urologists specialists and then will make a decision.
Thanks for letting me vent, somehow I feel better after I write about it. Many thanks again for the amazing support you have shown me. Richard Roe
Dearest Richard!
Phew.....now I can exhale after being on pins and needles waiting to hear the news. Thank goodness the 'c' has not spread, let this be the 1st of many MIRACLES to come!
You are the LION with your strength, walking tall and proud!
We, your Sisters and Brothers around the world North South East and West form a Circle Of Light Love Hope and Prayer in holding hands leading back to YOU!

Good morning, val and all Merry Mary's blogger friends. I spoke with Merry Mary just a few moments ago and she sounds very cheerful as usual. The surgery went off without a problem. As most of you know any kind of major surgery where you need anesthesia is a bigger challenge for us older folks . But God was with her and she is recovering slowly. The rest is left up to her attitude toward healing. She has the help of her family. And of course she knows you guys are with her. She can't get to her computer today so she asked me to tell you that she feels so loved knowing your with her in spirit.
Richard, I am assured that you will recover quickly. The scriptures say that we are overcomers, and that at the end the renants of the battle shall be as strong as the original force. This is the confidence we have when we place our trust in our creator as an intercessor for us. Sincerely, The two Mary's from Oklahoma.
RR's in the 'STARS'

The old may give way to the new today, as your established habits of thinking and seeing may open to new ways of being. Sudden insights could lead you to explore new viewpoints, ideas, and activities. Decisions you may be called upon to make today might put you in a position of choosing between your usual methods and something fresh that will impact your life in a positive way.
The tempo of your day may be fast, and you could find yourself exposed to new ideas coming at you from all corners. Instead of turning your attention inward to avoid the barrage of new information, try opening your mind. You may learn or experience something today that gives you an entirely original outlook on life or helps you to redefine your spirituality.
Exploring ways of living different from those you've always relied on can help you change your life in positive ways. Temporarily trying on new ideologies, habits, or modes of thought is a great way to shake off doldrums and can lead to positive transformations. You may discover practices that comfort and stimulate you or ideas that excite you and make you think. Opening your mind to new ways of being can expand your worldview and give you a broader perspective from which to approach problems. Exploring different ways of living can also make you more receptive to new experiences and lifestyle choices in the future. When you explore new ways of living, thinking, and acting today, you will see that there are many different ways you can shape your life...

Sometimes surgeons bring another perspective that needs to be considered. I assume that at some point you will be discussing the procedure with a surgeon who isn't a robot.
(My experiences with my son and mother's surgical procedures cause me to raise this question out of concern.)
(Not intended to raise concern but rather to be informative in order to enhance assurance.)

Dearest Richard!
G-D works in mysterious ways and sometimes when we choose a particular path on which to travel, the gentle loving hand of G-D intervenes and with love re-directs our course, like a gentle breeze pushing against the sails!
I don't know anything but I am cognizant of how important it is to truly LISTEN to the inner voice and 'gut feeling'. We all have our journeys and so we walk alongside each other on our individual paths yet parallel, what a paradox;) You SHINE and will come through this as we walk alongside YOU!
SKYWATCHER 'ELLA': today is my favourite day in the month 18th day in Hebrew CHAI means LIFE, how amazing that you share RR's STARS with us today, thank you once again! Very interesting and thought provoking 'pearls of wisdom'
M.M. CORBETT/MERRYMARY: love to you both and thanks for the update!

Hi Ladies! If you want to read something hysterical, pop over to my site and click on The Pedalogue. Richard, Joe, and Umberto if you can take it, you can check it out, too, to see what we women go through for our health. :D
Dear Richard and Friends,
Along with the funny stuff, (thanks Leslie,)
I am suggesting one of the best current subject books in print:
Guide to Surving Prostate Cancer
by Dr Patrick Walsh
Some of the hospitals will even lend out copies, but I think it is also available on Amazon.
Information helps.
Hugs,
Mary Rose
