Gael arrives and a dumb mistake by the SB
Hi All, Gael arrived two days ago and she is fine. We are still in Santiago as I made a "rookie" mistake and did not drink hardly any water for two days (don't know why!!) and came down with a severe case of dehydration. I'll write about this in next week's Newsletter, but it is like having the absolute worst case of the flu. The weather in Santiago at this time of the year is glorious. 80 degree days and 60 degree nights and no rain. Not sure yet what we are doing N.Y.E. as I am still struggling to get my system back up to traveling speed. Umberto is really enjoying his time with his friends. We are staying in the identical place he lived from 2001-2004, and it is exactly like a combination fraternity/ sorority house, but clean!! I'll have pictures and more detail about this also in next week's Newsletter. I am having the comments on the blog sent to me as we still cannot access www.seniorbachelor.com . Joe is now in Mexico with his family. I hope you all have a wonderful N.Y.E. and a great 2006. Keep those comments coming, we all love to read them. Ciao, Richard Roe

Hi Richard - so good to hear from finally So sorry about your bout with dehydration - I had that happen once and ended up in the hospital on an IV. So be careful, okay? We're all looking forward to new photos of Chile and Argentina but I guess we may have to wait a while still, what with Joe away with family so you can tandem info back and forth. We'll be patient. I'm sure the wait will be worth it. All the best to all three of you for the New Year.
WOW!! Richard, We all hope you are O.K. Please drink lots of fluids. Can't you just carry one of those bottles of water around with you at all times? Richard, Merry Mary has told me about a rubber ducky contest and we get a chance to dance with you. Get your dance card ready as we love to dance. Seriously, take care!! You are not a spring chicken anymore, are you? We will be waiting patiently for more news and photos. HAPPY, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU, GAEL AND UMBERTO AND JOE & FAMILY. Lady Jayne
Richard, your always telling people to take care, but It seems you need to do the same. I'm sending up healing prayers for you and believe you will recover soon. Hope all the feelings of concern will provide you with the cheer you need to know how important you are to all of us. M. M. Corbett
Hello everyone...
I posted on the previous blog last night and sort of explained where I've been. I won't "promise" to blog regularly because I know that I won't but I will try to check in more often.
Richard
You should get a water bottle on a rope that you can carry around your neck. I do hope you're feeling better.
Lady Jayne
The prolific writer from Alaska is Lady Base Camp and I'm sorry, I can't recall her first name...but I do have her blog address for you.

I'll check back later this evening...tata for now
Hello Richard!
Sorry to hear about your bout of dehydration and wishing you a speedy recovery you Spring Chicken You ;) I got caught in the pouring rain on Wednesday night, the walk seemed endless before arriving home with dripping wet hair and now pain in the lungs, for some unknown reason I just did not have my 'brolly' (umbrella) with me! I am taking lots of deep breaths and soaking m' feet in hot water, applying ice packs to my back. Dr. said I sprained a muscle due to tension whilst walking briskly, first time ever as I walk a lot! My thoughts are with you, thank goodness you have moral support in your male nurse Umberto and female nurse Gael to take extra good care of you and make sure you have your daily intake of water ~~~
Bonjourno Umberto and Gael! Wishing you Three Musketeers a Healthy Happy New Year, take care of each other!
G-D Bless
Val
p.s. YES it has been raining and not snowing....a crazzzy December, snow in the forecast for the morning!
Oh Yes!
I looked for Clementina and spotted her peeking out whilst chillin' on the beach in Brazil, to no avail could not find her a second time, she is remaining incognito until further notice ;)
or so it seems!
Hugs
Val
Richard
Dehydration doesn't sound like fun. Please be careful with the water you are drinking to rehydrate, tho. A friend caught some nasty amobeas in Ecuador from local water. He kept telling everyone that he was immune to the local water and then wound up with a hole in his liver, from the amobeas.
At least it's nice and warm down there...if you have to be sick. And you have Gael & Umberto to wait on you!!!
Gael Welcome to Chile!! Take good care of Richard now!
We are looking forward to hearing from you!
Umberto
I hope you are getting some nice pictures down there. We are looking forward to seeing them soon...and Clemintina!! Ciao
Hi RichardI do hope this finds you feeling much better today. I did that once and ended up taking ivs with potassium in St.Francis and was so dizzy. It will take a while to get all strong again so have Gael carry your bags...(just kidding,Gael). Since you are having blogs sent to you this explains our mystery,,,because I had put those messages on the blog. Take care of yourself and they had me eating a banana every day.
ValWe need to borrow some of that rain and I do hope you are feeling better today also.
Everybody Happy New Year with lots of good wishes...MM
Dear Willy,
Thanks for the info on Lady Base Camp. I just could not remember that name. I thought about her because of my recent viewing on the travel channel re: Alaska. We have another Jane writing from Wales and she signs "Jane" so I will sign "Lady Jayne" again to avoid confusion. Perhaps we should give her the title of"Lady" since she may be closer to being ROYALTY myself. Best Wishes, Lady Jayne
Dragonflyfilly, P.J. Thanks also for the info. I have been curious about her. She has not posted in so long. I had missed your post on the previous blog. I am off the blog for a few days. "All the Best". Oh! P.J. am enjoying your new photos on the blog. One of these days I will learn how to put up a photo. My New Year's Resolution will be to learn something very high tech, like getting an image on the blog. HA-HA---Lady Jayne
Hello all!
A Happy New Year to everyone;
Richard, I hope you feel better soon, You may want to check with a doctor, sometimes you are not able to replenish your body just by drinking regular fluids.
Hello to Umberto and Gael! I wanted to ask if Gael is from Chile, as I thought she signed herself off a few times.
Should I tell that you can find Clementina on top of the umbrella in the beach scene? I think we need more rules as to when to reveal what we know!
I'll be thinking of you all as I sing Auld Lang Syne this evening; Here's my wish for a happy, healthy New Year to everyone!

Hi, Richard hope you are feeling much better. Please keep bottled water with you, and if needed get water boiled at the hotel(for tea) and let it cool before putting it into a clean bottle to take with you. Eat fruit such as oranges which provide water content. I have not had time to read any of the blogs for a long time. Wishing you, Umberto, Gael, your family, Joe and his family and all the ladies of the blog a blessed, happy NEW YEAR!!!! The pictures I have seen so far are exciting, I want to come toooo! Have fun take more pictures, bring back souvenirs and send pictures of them too. (A good shot of rum destroys bacteria but use a chaser, tonic water). Laugh and enjoy. Love to you all.
RR,Joe,Gael, Umberto...happy travels and Happy New Year!
JanieGirl Yeah, i change photos often to keep in practice. it is really easy once you get the hang of it. Click-Girl and Babette and Linda are good with instructions, and i think Suzanne (AdorableButTechChallenged) gives good instructions too, and a few others also, just ask and they will be forthcoming with help.
Here is my lastest offering (circa 1977)which may offend some people, but oh well! I don't usually make New Year's Resolutions but in this year of the Dog i shall. (1) Give people only two chances (not 3,4,5,6,7...ad nauseum) to "give me the shaft", and to lose some weight. So.
i too am wondering where is LBC (???) - she is a very very very busy lady. But we are also having some nasty flu in the West, so i hope she is o.k. healthwise. if you want to try to contact her go into the SB archieves and scroll around until you find her photo and click on it and it will take you to her Blog.
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR, hope it is full of love, laughter, good health, and wealth.
love and light,
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL in 2006!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL AROUND THE WORLD
Auld Lang Syne - New Year's Song
The song, "Auld Lang Syne," is sung at the stroke of midnight in nearly every English-speaking country in the world to welcome the New Year. Early variations of the song were sung in the 17th century. But writer Robert Burns was inspired to recompose a modern rendition, and the revised version was published in 1796, after Burns' death. An old Scotch tune, "Auld Lang Syne" literally means "old long ago," or simply, "the good old days."
Auld Lang Syne Lyrics
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
And here's a hand, my trusty friend
And gie's a hand o' thine
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne
Hello Everyone,
Well, 2005 was quite a year of new beginnings for many of us!! Never did I think I would meet so many wonderful friends from a Senior Bachelor Adventure. Sharing friendships with people from all over is wonderful. I have enjoyed following RR on his trip, thanks for sharing with all of us.
I hope you are feeling much better by now and able to enjoy ringing out the old year and bringing in the new!!! 2006 will hopefully be a wonderful year for everyone.
Happy New Year To All!!
Linda P.
Hi all
Here i am just to cause confusion.....Is this Jane or Lady Jayne? I am probabaly ahead of most of you and approaching the midnight hour. I am in the middle of festivities so will wish you all a very happy new year.
Richard as a nutritionist eat bananas for your potasium intake and boiled water for fluid (also a little salt for your sodium levels.) A good chemist should be able to provide you with an electrolye relacement drink. Dioralyte is one if sold there. I am sure that Gael will take of you admirally and you will all three see the new year in in style.
Leslie thanks for the info i laughed my socks off. Will keep in touch...It's in the address book.
Janie girl... Lady is fine with me if it is with you.
Merry Mary....I will have to tell you another time of the various puddings we eat here.
Until then HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
Keep well and safe all of you .....Jane From Wales!
Aloha ALL!
MERRYMARY: thank you for your kind thoughts and yes will bottle the rain and send it to you, it has turned to snow and the world here looks white and wonderful, love the fresh crisp soft fluffy snow flakes, I am like a child in the snow and every opportunity I have to throw snowballs is sooo much FUN. It is very romantic, there is something about the stillness and magic of walking in a heavy snowfall. Everything looks and feels pristine and clean!
Gettin' ready to celebrate the New Year down at the trendy Jazz Club on Queen Street here in Toronto, where my daughter just happens to be on Bar Duty tonight. We're on the 'guest list', I am soooo looking forward to singing in the New Year with daughter and ALL ;)will be fun watching her 'at work' she loves it! The club has a good vibe, see the occasional 'celeb' too and the Jazz is ABFAB!
So wishing Richard, Umberto, Gael and ALL the bloggers a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR for 2006! Hope you are feeling better Richard!
In Love and Light
Hugs

p.s. Happy New Year to Joe and Co. down 'Mehico Way' ;)

I just had a delightful New Year's eve afternoon. The Fabulous Finalist Mary took the Fabulous not Finalist Mary for lunch and to see Memiors of A Geisha Girl. I had read the book sometime back and it pretty well follows it as I remember. Anyway what a neat afternoon. It really is amazing that Richard's cause has got us so many new friends among ourselves. Yea for Richard.
Val...if you like the snow go see this movie. There are some awsome snow scenes. There are just some awfully beautiful scenes of the ocean and houses and the dancing she did was beautiful. It sort of reminded me of Tea House On Aug. Moon. Well...once agin...Happy New Years to one and all. Mary
MERRYMARY: saw the movie 'Memoirs Of A Geisha' and LOVED it too, the photography was quite something, loved the opening scene of the house on the cliff with the trees bent due to the wind, and the wild ocean, an artists dream! Loved the black and white look about it as though looking through a negative.
I love playing with the camera and taking photographs of people from different lands, especially the children, they cast a spell on me with their eyes, love it!
G-D Bless Y'all
Countdown to the midnite hour ;) a new fresh cycle begins, let's pray for World Peace and an end to the suffering!
Ciao for now

Happy New Year!!!!!
Hello Richard, Gael & Umberto,
Happy New Year to you all, somewhere far away.
We are loving the photos, Umberto, and now we can keep track of the second phase of the journey hoping Richard gets back into sync real soon. The body has to have its fluid replenished and we should drink more water than normal, when traveling, especially in a warm climate. But you knew that. We hope that you will be back up and on the road again real soon. Please keep it as the first rule of your traveling to keep water with you at all times. I hope that you can get your electrolytes back in order real quick. Gatorade usually fixes that in a pinch.
Good luck on the next step of the journey and please let us know how things are going.......our best to Gael and here's hoping that she is a real trouper.
Hugs,
Chandra
Dear MERRYMARY AND M.M. CORBETT
the two Oklahoma Marys, thoughts and prayers go out to ALL of you in Oklahoma at this time. Just saw the Breaking News on CNN and am shocked at how close the fires have come to the residential areas, lots of people asked to evacuate their homes, Texas area too where fires are also burning out of control!
California floods taking place as we speak, let us ALL join together in Prayer for the rain to drown the Oklahoma fires and the sun to dry the California areas affected by the heavy rains/flooding.
RICHARD: Thoughts and prayers go out to you too for a speedy recovery so that you are able to resume your adventurous journey with renewed strength and vitality!
UMBERTO AND GAEL: thanks to one of our blogettes, I spotted Clementina perched atop the beach 'brolly'/umbrella! I too have a little ducky sittin' on my bathtub, belongs to my children as it was theirs when they were 'knee high to a grasshopper' :)
Take care of yourselves
G-D Bless

Hi everyone!
Just FYI... Richard, Gael and Umberto are all alive and well, but they are having issues with the computer where they are right now. I have been in touch with them and they are working on the problem, but it may be one that is hard to solve in Chile - their connection is just not robust enough to allow them to send posts and photos.
I forwarded all your comments to him so he knows that you are all watching and concerned about the dehydration and all. I know you are also excited for he and Gael and to hear how they are doing too, so hopefully it won't be long before he can successfully get an update out.
Ciao for now!

Hi Val..Thank you for the prayers and concern. My sister's daughter in law's grandma lost her house and everything she owns to the fires yesterday and her mom lived next door and it burned her electric service so they're stay ing at my sister's son and daughter in laws's
house for now. It's bad. I agree with you ...We need Ca.'s rain to put out the fires. Unfortuneately no rain in the forcast for 2 weeks.
Happy 1st Mon. of 2006. MM
Hi big guy, sorry to hear about you being sick that's not much fun. Get well and enjoy the rest of our trip.
Send photo's when you can

Happy New year, Val and everyone! I had a lovely afternoon at the movies with my new friend Merry Mary she is just a wonderful new addition to my list of good friends. She is making plans to goin me at the Dream Center this year and I'm so looking forward to seeing that warm and beautiful personality she has put to work in helping others find joy and peace in their lives M.M. Corbett
Greetings ALL!
LORI..aka African Queen;)
thanks for the update, it is soooo exciting that you will accompany our 'Leading Man' to Africa! You are going to absolutely LOVE the vibe everywhere there, I guess I am prejudiced but Africa has a vibe unto itz own ;) and being a LEO, which I am too, you will identify with what I refer to as the 'fire energy' of Africa, it burns into the Soul leaving an indelible mark forever!
M.M. CORBETT AND MERRY MARY...aka 'Oklahoma Gals'
M.M. Corbett/Mary ;) I am intrigued by the Dream Centre you are referring to, kindly explain, thank you! MerryMary I am so sorry to hear about the loss of homes in the Oklahoma area, including the one in particular you mentioned. Texas sure is taking a beating too what with having to move all the horses/animals etc. out of the path of the flames. I now see that Huntington Beach etc. areas in California is in the path of the heavy rains /flooding/mudslides etc. oh dear!
Again today we here in Toronto also have RAIN...and it is January, oy yoy yoy Global Warming. We live in exciting but turmoilic times, we cannot take our Planet Earth for granted anymore. I contribute to the re-cycling as much as I can, as we ALL start doing that we can contribute towards diminishing the tons and tons of toxic waste that is thrown away from our garbage alone, let alone what spews out from the refineries etc. into the Earth's atmosphere! That is where people such as my Son the Ecologist comes in to try and find more effective ways of keeping our environment etc. clean.
Listening to the famous theme from Zorba The Greek, impossible not to want to dance ;) I love the Greek Island of Santorini a special place, very ancient vibe, Atlantean for sure!
'nuff said :)
Sending Love and Light
Hugs Val
p.s. I am going to get a second opinion on this pain and discomfort in the left Lung area, just another little stumbling block ;)
Thanks Lori for sending our posts on to Richard, so he knows we're all still interested in the travel and how he's doing.
MY NEW BLOG SITE IS SET UP Thanks to Brenda for putting my "dream" on the AH website. I have now set up a separate blog for anyone who wishes to contact me or discuss my idea. Just click on my name and it will take you to my site, click on YOUNG WIDOWS, and voila - there you are. There's also a photo of my husband and me on our wedding day that you might like to see. We all start out with such dreams, don't we, and too many times those dreams are shattered. Oh well...life goes on.
Hope everyone's having a great beginning for 2006. I'm back at work tomorrow. Heading out now to check that all is in readiness for the kids. At least I don't have to do "duty" tomorrow. :D
I just got home from the grocery store and they had fresh cherrie's from Chile...so I bought a bag. I will have them for a snack after while and play like I'm eating cherries in Chile with Richard and Umbreto and Gael. I hope they're good.MM
Hi Val, I just read your note. Mary Corbett is an R.N. and does volunteer work through her church. Her church sponsors the Dream Center and people who have no means to pay get free care...medical and dental. Before I became a realtor I worked as a doctor's assistant and did some private duty and some work at the hospital and even went to R.N. school(I lack 6 months) but ended up getting a divorse and changing from nursing to real estate. I always loved nursing but I got so close to the patients and have been with several that took their last breath and held their hands and then I'd go cry so decided to try real estate and did quite well money wise but have always missed taking care of people. I'm sure Mary C. can explain far more when she sees your note. Don't fool around and get pneumonia...Ya hear???? Are you taking antibiotics???? I'm going to go check out Leslie's site then put up groceries. Take care. Love, Mary B.
Val, Thanks for asking about the Dream Center. Merry Mary explained it very well. In addition to the free medical clinic, there is a clothiing, food, and atletic program. Young boys get trained in basket ball and other sports that enable them to earn admission to sports programs that will send them on to college. Other programs include legal assistance and a GED program for those who wish to get a highschool education. I also teach a class on finding your purp ose in life, and the spirit of leadership. All of this is done by volunteers from a variety of occupations. It is very fulfilling work and has provided me with a better understanding of the mysteries of my on personality. Again, thanks for your interest. M.M. Corbett
Dear MerryMary!
So cute that you bought cherries from Chile, love 'em too, in fact I enjoy eating sweet fruit such as Sweet Melon, Cherries, Kiwi Fruit,
Tangerines called 'Maroc' from Morocco of course;)(makes me wanna sing 'Tangerine da da da da da;) the 'Outspan' Oranges from my country South Africa, Granny Smith emerald green Apples also grown in South Africa....sweet sweet sweet!
Mary, I don't think I have pneumonia, but the second opinion will put my mind at rest, silly of me to venture out in the freezing pouring winter rain, but had to walk at that particular time!
M.M. Corbett/Mary: How did your singing debut 'The Look Of Love' go? I am thrilled for you and would love to see your name 'in lights' ;) Judging by your lovely picture, you must have a smooth, soft, sultry, late night kinda voice, correct me if I'm wrong, just a hunch! You go girl!
Where are the rest of the fleurs?
Skywatcher 'Ella': The Moon is waning, renewing her energy, so it is with all of us, hoping all is well with You and Yours!

This place has become such a drag -- the people who predicted it have gone, as they should. I know a few of the hanger ons just will not give up
RR is a joke, the reason there has been no photos for the "loyal", is they're busy making another documentary.
Happy new year to all, with the express wish that the very pleasant Mery Mary spell Umberto at least once -- Mary, it is UMBERTO, not Umbreto!!!!!!
Val,
Thanks for the great Leo energy! I am excited to be going and to be experiencing it with the wonderful man himself! What a lucky Leo I am!
Lori
P.S. to everyone - I have just posted new photos from Umberto in the normal place on Richard's site. He will put the captions on as soon as he can.
Enjoy!!
Dear lakebtr:
It is obvious and logical that they are making another documentary
Six months travelling to distant places with all the elements of adventure and the unexpected will certainly prove to be an interesting documentary to say the least. I for one will enjoy it as I did 'POP&ME'. Who cares, if that is Richard's idea then good luck to him, some of us are enjoying the ride, not costing me anything and sure as hell beats talking to strangers in the cyberspace chatrooms. I am totally incognito here, nothing to lose and having clean fun, no strings attached ;)
Yes, I do have 'staying power' call it 'loyal' I am still posting here since April 2004, never sent in my photo, bio etc. I've enjoyed the camraderie and still do, why not? You seem to enjoy posting here too :) I am sure beneathe your armour there exists a friendly demeanor!
Happy New Year to you and wish you inner peace, love and happiness!
Hugs
Val
p.s. the difference with this documentary is the 'pot of gold' at the end of the rainbow....LOVE
OOPS ERROR = CORRECTION
I am posting here since APRIL 2005

Hola Lori!
Thanks for the tip, fabulous photos!
Richard, I like the rugged look with the beard and curly hair ;) looks good on you! Wonderful to see you walking around again and carrying water I see :) Gael you look good on camera, keep smiling!
Love the architecture captured in some of the photos, good work Umberto but where is Clementina?
Enjoy Chile!
Adios Amigos and Amiga
Vaya Con Dios (Go With G-D)
Luv Val
I guess I'm one of the "loyal" ones, too. I agree with Val, that it's an interesting adventure and not costing us a thing. I just may go some day to some of the places Richard is going to now. I don't know if he's doing a documentary or not, but if so, kudos to him. Why not? I still think he's a very interesting and intelligent man with a lot of life in him - too bad he can't clone himself! :D
Good morning to all,
I enjoyed seeing the latest photos...Cerro Santa Lucia reminds me a little of California's Hearst Castle...
The sights are beautiful, keep em coming.
I'll be looking forward to seeing the finished documentary...bloopers and all I hope.
I'm off to go to work...although I'd rather be sightseeing in exotic places.
Have a wonderful day everyone...
Love and hugs from Willy
