Ladies Of The Blog

I wanted to thank all of the bloggers (well, almost all-ha ha) for adding so much to this Journey. And a Journey this is!!!!! As you have seen from my comments, getting a good hotel at a reasonable price in Chicago in September is a real CHALLENGE. We happened to get a fantastic deal with the Ayres Hotel here in Manhattan Beach and I have been trying to do the same in Chicago. Sorry for such a short blog, but I wanted to prevent "scrollitis." Is that a word???? Best wishes, Richard Roe

Hi Richard! Good luck in Chicago! Glad you mentioned Hurrican Katrina. Was just in Biloxi in May and have signed up to go with Habitat for Humanity later on when they go in to help rebuild houses.

For those who can, clean out your closets and donate, donate, donate! Money is great but clothing, toiletries ect. are also needed. We have many families here in Atlanta that were displaced from Katrina. I have a friend from Biloxi that shall be coming to stay with me until they get things up and running. Lucky to be alive! Best wishes for a realistic, speedy recovery! Prayers help too as we all know! Michelle Bahr

To:Richard or Joe, Did you know that the blog is not downloadingproperly? It takes "Forever and a Day" to get it up at least on my weird computer system. I called Microsoft, my server, and they said it sounded like the problem was with "Your Server". I honestly don't know since I am not very high tech. Thought you both would like to know of the problem. Would you please address this. Many thanks!! Anonymous, Lady Jayne

Richard - I am considering Chicago as I was on my own adventure at the time of the MB event which was closer for me - however the two week window for getting a good airline rate is quickly approaching or almost past - sooo since you are having trouble with Sept in Chicago might you consider a later date?

some incredible Roman and

art in the desert/Sahara and a chance
to see the famous "BlueMen" the Tuareg

Good Afternoon Everyuone,.........
The ability to be flexible is one the things I've always prided myaelf on. Unfortunately the difficulties that RR is having in securing lodgings is not helping.
With the constant delays and changes it could blow it all out the water. I realize he is trying to make things affordable, but in a city like Chicago you could be asking for the impossible. Sept./Oct. are one of the busiest convention times, I know I've worked in the Resturant buisness, (owned one with my ex)
It would have required serious advance planning. I realize that with Chicago not being RR's home turf the dynamics can be difficult.Realistically, the atmosphere that surronded MB and the Ayers is cannot be duplicated. What can take place however is a different flavor.
We have Navy Pier, which can be a fabulos setting. There are also several resturant ships that leave from Navy Pier. I have been on cocktail parties, reception's and dinner on them and they asre special. A wonderful romantic setting. The convience of it all taking place in, on, and at one venue could prove to be unrealistic, especially if you are looking for "good deals".
Richard, as I have offered in the past,if I can help , please ask. My cousin,(like a sister) works for the Hyatt Hotel's (20 yrs.)
and a very close friend works at Navt Pier . Please keep in mind this is all a suggestion and am just trying to help.

Linda,..............I think you can understand how it could be hard getting excited about something that you don't know when or if it is going to take place.

JacquelyninIllionis,............
Where in ILL./Chicago do you live. Would be great to meet you. E-mail or post on my site.
Yes there are many fabulos things to do here, and you've not even scratched the surface. Plus we get a wonderful Indian Summer here, was swimming this morning and plan to spend the weekend at the pool.

CJ.....anything you'd like! Yes those things do happen, I've got tons more for ya. I was a troop leader with Girl Scouts for 7 yrs, AGHHHHH. Have I got stories!

Richard,....At this point if Chicago goes into October,well..........I have commitments in Albuquerqe. I have a client there that I must finish work on. I also have plans to attend the Hot Air Ballon festivites that take place every year. They come from all over the country and the world. I'm told it's a site to behold.

Ladies, maybe some of you could come on over. The gal I'm staying at has two guest house's that are very reasonable,(I'll get us a discount) and could accomodate up
to 8 people, 2 would have to take
couches:).

Oh well that's it for now, check back with everyone later,

Where should people donate clothes? Maybe this is a localized
need.

I know we are seeing some victims in our area and they need clothes, which are being donated locally.

When I worked with disaster relief in Hugo, clothes were not a help after the first week, except to the ones of us who were working the in the relief effort.

We dug through mountains of clothes and found shorts and cooler clothes to wear.

Generally, the Red Cross asks, to not donate clothes. I understand that every disaster is different.

Maybe you are saying to donate locally to the victims as they are relocated to our neighborhoods.

Dear Richard and Friends,

I am still living my Mom's advise, "Don't talk about it, just do it."

It was a wonderful experience going to MB. I repeat as one of my friends said, "Most of who we hang with would not have had the courage to do it, but but but We would have always wondered why WE hadn't done it. Would I do it again??
Darn tootin I would!

Met so many wonderful people including those not with SB.

Richard commented about "Amazing Women."

Everyone has something special (Including the storm survivors I have been working with since my early return Tuesday. The stories are amazing. The gifts we have, seem of no real value unless or until they are shared.

Back to MB and the Mission of Fun and Adventure for our maturing segment.

First, thank you Richard, for reawaking dreams and the Network of encouragment and examples of people pursuing those Dreams and Missions.

Attraction is always such a "Selling point."

My next Adventure is an overnight cycle tour. Want to come along? (I think Joe's wife said you might not be attracted to Biker Chicks. How about Scooters? I saw them all over MB.) I am really no expert, but as one of the wonderful ladies I met said, "I didn't have the strength or knowledge when I started, but I got it, little by little, as I kept trying."

Thank you Richard and your Helpers for being such WONDERFUL Hosts.

I do believe in your thinking to do each of our BEST with what is in our own focus as IMPORTANT. If we feel strongly about something, then we are the best volenteers to make a difference.

A natural follow up within your mission, would be stories we're learning about each other. That seems to be the bond (Common ground) in our developing friendships.
{{A resourse for the courage to carry on. A Pool of ideas.}}
You could even ask some of us for details a Host never has time for.

Another highlight was my times spent with "Irishman" -Lady-
DR Doris McCoy, now working on her 3rd book.
She gave me some wonderful ideas. Because of MB,I am able to open my copy of her second book where she wrote I "will run into the new future. Warm regards. Doris Lee McCoy." Yes, I am encouraged not to lag or fear. Help comes as sought and when needed.

I do share your belief, that the future will work out. Help is available.

I don't want to miss an opportunity to hold hands or share an "Everything will be OK" hug.

A turn in the road isn't the end of the road unless we fail to make the turn.

Do you have a date yet to start choosing Traveling companions?

Now is a good time to count our Blessings.

For everyone who is lucky enough to make it to Chicago-have a great time. I will look forward to seeing pictures again. There are so many wonderful, positive comments about Richard, which makes me smile. My gut feeling was correct, I think. Keep the Katrina victims in your prayers-I live in Dallas, and we have 250,000 survivors in Texas, many, many here in the metroplex, and quite a few in a shelter two blocks from my work. I work in a dental office, and our dentists, and office has been giving on going dental assistance, as well as time, food, clothing etc. What a sad, sad, situation. I lived in New Orleans for five years, so my feelings run deep. Good luck to you, Richard, in Chicago-I wish I could be there. Somewhere in that deep stack, i did send a video and bio, but it looks like the numbers are getting bigger, and the chances smaller. I have enjoyed my taste of this alot.

Hello All,
Time is fleeting and we all realize that all of you involved had such a special arrangement with the Ayers. That was exceptional but.... Chicago is Chicago and we all know that it is not possible to get anything really inexpensive here especially on short notice. We only hope that you can make some kind of plans........please don't go into October! I had postponed things into October, knowing the event was in Sept, and I will be gone on a tour of the National Parks.
Hopefully, we can settle on the dates soon because a lot of the gals who have to book flights need advance notice.
Maybe we can do it somewhere on the outskirts of the city? In a suburb of Chicago?
Hugs,
Chandra

Thanks to Biking Nut for trying to help. The blog is now down loading quickly, but can't understand why yesterday and today it took over half the day to get it down loaded. I have a Microsoft Webtv system, with no hard drive. Perhaps that is the problem. All the other Senior Bachelor info downloads quickly, even the info with lots of pictures. If this happens again in the morning, I will call one of the Microsoft engineers, if I can get these men, they usually give me quick answers and put up with my untechy explanatios and lack of knowledge. In fact we have had a few laughs over eBay and Webtv.
Thanks again! I am trying to keep up with the SB adventure. It is lots of fun. ANONOMOUS, Lady Jayne

This guy friend from college days SWEARS this is true. I have my doubts. But, it's cute anyway! ;)

Dear Diary,

I never have quite figured out why the sexual urges of men & women differ so much. And I have never figured out the whole 'Venus and Mars' thing.

I've also never figured out why men think with their head while women think with their heart. And I've yet to have figured out how the sexual desire gene gets thrown into a state of turmoil, when it hears the words, "I do."

One evening last week, my wife and I were getting into bed. Well, the
passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says: "I don't feel like
it, I just want you to hold me".

I said: "WHAT??????"

So she says the words that I and every husband on the planet dread: she explains that I must not be “in tune” with her emotional needs as a woman.

I'm thinking: "What was her first clue?".

I finally realize that nothing was going to happen that night, so I went to sleep.

The very next day, we went shopping at a big, unnamed department store. I walked around with her while she tried on three different very expensive outfits. She could not decide which one to take so I told her to take all three of them.

She then tells me that she wants matching shoes worth $200.00 a pair to which I say OK. And then we go to the jewelry dept. where she gets a pair of diamond earrings.

Let me tell you........ she was so excited. She must have thought that I was one wave short of a shipwreck, but I don't think she cared. I think she was testing me when she asked for a tennis bracelet because she does not even play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I told her that it was OK.

She was so excited by all of this when she finally said: "I'm ready to go to the cash register". I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out: "No, honey I don't feel like buying all this stuff now."

You should have seen her face .... it went completely blank. I then said: "Really honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while." And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me I added:

"You must not be ‘in tune’ with my financial needs as a Man".

I figure that I won't be having sex again until sometime after the
spring of 2008.

(At least that's what HE told ME!)

THE GIRLS ARE BACK IN TOWN!!

"Guess who just recently got back from MB,
Them wild-eyed Girls that'd been away,
Haven't changed, had much to say,
But wow, I still think them cats are crazy.
They were askin' if Richard was around,
How Rich was, where Rich could be found.
Told them Rich was livin' in a beach town,
Drivin' all the Blogger ladies crazy.

The Girls are back in town
The Girls are back in town.
The Girls are back in town
The Girls are back in town."

(Original Lyrics by Bon Jovi / Clever re-write by ClickGirl)

Just wanted to say how happy I am (really happy!) to see things ‘back to normal’ on the Blog! It made me break into song. (hee hee)

Welcome Georgette and other ‘Newbies’! Glad to have you joining us!

Suzan … You are cracking me up! Keep ‘em coming! ; )

Hey Paula in FL … No worry about the ‘Anonymous’ … we just appreciate that you identify yourself at the end. We want to know who you are too! : ) Thanks much!!

Hi Michelle – Love the Pic! Also – went to your Website and loved the info on Marsh Harbor in the Abacos! I love that place!! My ex and I used to go there with a group of friends – stayed in a Villa there. Was such fun! And what beautiful waters! I lived in Islamorada, in The Florida Keys when I was a teenager … and thought we had the most beautiful and clearest water anywhere … until I went to the Abacos! Just gorgeous!

Hey Linda – you are too funny! Love the different photos too. It’s like ‘Photo of the Post Club’. : ) Making me jealous! I’m going to start changing mine out too. (ha ha)

Ah … Leslie! I was wondering who had those cute feet!

Hi Lady Jayne: Another potential reason for the slow download could be if the Blog itself is having a problem – or maintenance was being done. I noticed a while back – that they have a way to check the status of the Blog at:
http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=939&topic=41

If you look at the bottom – on the right – and click on ‘Blogger Status’ – you can see whether there is any problem. Like, for instance, there is a notice that says that there will be a scheduled outage for 1 hour at 3 p.m. on 9/9 – while they move stuff from one server to another. So … just thought I’d mention that – for future reference. I know it can be frustrating … when you can’t get access – so this is just another possibility. Anyway – glad you were able to get back with us. : )

To Richard, Joe and the MB Blogger Gals:
When I got home tonight I found the nicest ‘card’ – signed by all of my ‘Friends of the Blog’ who were at MB! I was so touched and moved by such a wonderful gesture … and as I read each comment, tears were just rolling! I am at a loss for words - which – as you know from most of my posts … that is usually not a problem (ha ha). Sorry Richard – I know you once said you preferred ‘brief’ posts. I just can’t help myself! : ) At any rate, I just can’t thank all of you enough! The good news … is we are reaching 75 bracelets distributed … and I’ll have a count soon on our total (to date) – for the Heart Bracelets. The new Heart Bracelet Blog should be up and running soon – and we are now allowing a choice between donating to The American Heart Association/World Heart Federation and The Red Cross (already have 40 for that cause – thanks to one generous Bloggette)! So … many, many thanks!! And a special thanks to Richard – for wearing the Heart Bracelet at MB … and to Joe for posting the shot and for the nice ‘Blurb on the Blog’! Much appreciated!! We can make a difference!!!!

Warm regards,

Brenda

Hola Richard........
"scrollitis" is a real word found in my very own
"not so real personal dictionary" of
"CC's useless words and information"
I find this personal dictionary VERY handy when trying to find a word that fits the moment for example:

Bloggettes =females Blogging ie Canadian "Bloggette"

Bloggers = males Blogging

Blogging = male/female Bloggettes/Bloggers in the midst of writing a Blog

Scrollitis =painful abundant unecessary scrolling

Fluffette = brain challenged female species

Fluff = brain challenged male species
etc etc etc ..so there you have it!

I am soooo busted...but ya know I gotta say...these "words" from my personal "useless" dictionary seem to work as everyone quite happily uses them!! I can't believe that no one has questioned these "words" before this!!
But then only takes one!Soooooooooooo perhaps you in fact do read Blogs afterall!! Hmmmmm??!!

ps.to whomever wrote the COUR AGE thingy, ( I apologise but am way too tired to scroll bakwards tonight!!) the french for heart is actually COEUR not COUR ( zero malintent!!) ....thanks to my devoted French teacher!! Perhaps we could start spelling COURAGE=COEURAGE......I personnally think it fits much better......so I will add that to my personal dictionary....thanks!!

Hello everyone,

FYI, I just came back from an orientation meeting at the Red Cross. they are looking for 40.000 volunteers and cash donation. For us, here is the DC area, fireman stations have stopped taking clothing donations, toys etc. only toiletries and tissue.

A few of us were interviewed by Channel 7 as why we wanted to volunteer. Hopefully we'll get more people. It is an impressive organization.

Ladies: Chicago is a fabulous city, and the trolley tour with narration regarding the Chicago fire is very interesting...Great architecture...There ia a great museum too, that would take a full three days to do right...I stayed at the Omni when I was there for the Oprah thing, and stayed over after filming..They gave me their Oprah rate, for which they charged $189 a night...The Omni is downtown and close to the action; the staff is 'way' friendly and the food is great [especially their special tomato soup!].....If you eat meat there are some great steakhouses as well! My favorite reason to go would be to meet CHI-TOWN GIRL!! I am taking a SoCal Red Cross training with my daughter..It is so difficult to see all the suffering and do nothing...THE 'WOMEN WITH HEART' bracelets are selling like 'hotcakes'!! Thanks to the ladies for all your great help...Richard you owe $5.00, lol..
Peace,

If you're thinking about going to Chicago to meet Richard Roe, the very handsome senior bachelor, I want to encourage you to go!
I had a wonderful time in MB although I don't think I got quality time with Richard. Our eyes met on quite a few occasions but I'm not sure if he felt the same as I about that...Have you noticed his beautiful blue eyes?
But hey, there were so many georgeous women vying for his attention. I just want everyone to know that I personally did not see him pay special attention to any one in particular. If he felt a connection to anyone, that was a private matter to him only. He was a true gentleman and treated us all with respect and dignity. I did not feel like this was a cattle call at all. It was fun and exciting and everything I had hoped it would be.
I almost did not show because I was afraid of just that and said to myself, "what the h--- am I thinking?" After some reflection at a nearby park, I decided to go and I am so glad that I did. Maybe Richard will choose me to tag along on one of his excursions and maybe not. I would love the chance to really get to know this very special man and I think he would be equally lucky to know me :)
Richard has put a spark back into my life...I have dreams again for what may be. Thank you Richard, Joe & Nancy and family, Umberto, Ann Williams, Doug Ayres and family, staff of the Ayres, Amber, (Richard's friend who is just a darling), Murad Day Spa, See's candies, all of the fantastic women who attended and those who couldn't make it but were there following the blog and gave it their all with their hearts...
Follow your dreams, go to Chicago and enjoy!

To Coach

May I add a speacil thank-you to
you for posting the following very informative web sites.

If you are an animal Lover you are guaranteed to shead a tear.

Taking into consideration that in general, animals have the conprehention of that of a two year old child

We can only imagine how terribly frightening their plight must be in the aftermath of Katrina.

I am conforted in the fact that Oprah has an eye out and an open heart for these helpless creatures.

The following can be read on www.hsus.org

O IN N O (Oprah in New Orleans)

For Bruce Earnest, a member of The HSUS's Disaster Animal Response Team (DART), words couldn't describe the stench he encountered inside the devastated Superdome on Sunday. Disgusting, awful, hideous.

For Earnest, none of those words captured the worst smell he had ever breathed into his lungs. He called it a combination of sweat, feces, urine, and who knows what else.

So imagine his surprise when, amid the squalor of the scene, he saw Oprah Winfrey walking around the Superdome.

It's true. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin had invited Oprah to tour the stadium (among other sites), which city officials are debating scrapping because it sustained massive structural damage.

When Oprah saw the DART members in action, Earnest said, she raised her arms in the air and shouted, "Thank God they didn't forget the animals!"

She then visited the 30 or so animals that the team members had rescued from the Superdome, including a mother dog and her 11 pups.

Oprah's support was so emphatic that Lou Guyton, command leader of The HSUS's rescue operation at Gonzales, Louisiana, just outside New Orleans, remarked that if the animals need anything, "I'm going to call Oprah."

www.ifaw.org (International Fund for Animal Welfare)
www.hsus.org (Humane Society of the U.S.)
www.posadosafehaven.org (located in Seattle)

Well Oprah youve managed to make me cry once more.
From the deepest recess of my soul I thank-you in the name of all the left behind creatures,God bless you and your mission.

Hello Ladies,
I'm in agreement with my Blogette friends. If you have a chance to go to Chicago and meet Richard,Joe,and Umberto, do it, Do It, DO IT!!!! Do the trip for yourself, you will be so rewarded! I'm so glad I went to MB even though I was having my doubts about going. I met some great gals and Richard isn't so bad either...lol. He is truly a gentleman and I was amazed at the energy he has. Richard is not your 'average' 64 yr. old. He's a handsome, rugged man with an awesome smile and beautiful blue eyes! (Richard, keep your head from exploding here...lol)
Plus if you stay in Chicago long enough you might be able to get a ticket to Oprah's show, hear some jazz, go to the art musuem, go to the top of Sears Tower, go see a performance at Chicago's Lyric Opera, and I hear the eating is good in Chicago! Anyhow please don't think you will stick out like a sore thumb or get lost in the crowd if you go to Chicago. We all are so unique that there will be someone you meet that will appreciate you and will be glad you came. So Ladies go have some fun, fun, fun!!! I want to see pics rolling off the comp from your adventures in Chi Town!

Coeur-rage to you all,
Lois

RedTBird, Hi, and thanks for the kind compliment. Life is just too d***** short not to have fun, and I think most will agree with that statement.

But I'm here. Just been sort of busy trying to get things organized for the Maui trip.

Been working out every night too, then swimming laps so that has me pretty wiped out (Linda [I might have to pierce something], Susan, Gael, and more) y'all got me motivated to tone and get some muscle definition (and its working baby)!!!

I have also been enjoying this change in the weather, here where I live. Fall is so in the air. I love it!

I have never been back East before and would have loved to had made the journey to Chicago, but I have a couple other really short trips planned when I return from paradise, plus I think that is when sb will be in Chicago. So it wouldn't work anyway.

Cute Gael, are you going to be at the sb festivities in Chicago? Hi girlfried! Did we all have fun in MB or what????

I got MB pictures back yesterday and for those ladies that wrote in my little address book I will mail you copies, k.

Just want to wish all those wonderful women that will be traveling to Chicago a safe journey.

Richard and Joe safe travels to you too. Richard, don't forget your headache medication *grin*

Y'all have a great Friday and week-end.

Richard, I am finishing my biography this weekend and have my video ready to submit. I looking forward to meeting you and getting to know you better. I am one to usually let the man make the moves, but in this case I don't think I have a choice. Traveling and Romance are the reasons I retired early so I plan to take advantage of every opportunity. Richard's Blog is now downloading quickly, but I plan to research exactly what you have sent to me. If I ever can't get info, I usually just move on with the thought that I will find it somewhere else, but in this instance, there would not be an adventure like this anywhere else. It is quite unique. Thanks again! Your help is greatly appreciated. ANONYMOUS, Lady Jayne

Good Morning Richard.I have a question for you. Since I have been following your journey I was attracted to the adventure. I was hesitant to come to MB, it was a distance for me. I am contemplating Chicago, but am confused as to what would be the purpose. If as you said, the cut-off date is Sept.16TH why would anyone need to come. Your decision would be made and the ladies coming would be creating expenses for nought.
I mean, all women who came to MB were either there because they have submitted a video, or wanted to meet with you and see if they wanted to. I realize that there has been a group a women who have been on this journey from the begining via your web site and wanted to meet with one another, and the same thing could take place again for them.
It seems as though at this point that would be it's main purpose.
Those who were in MB came with possibilities of hope's.
Chicago would just be a sightseeing tour. I had thought in the begining you made statements inferring your traveling different area's of the country. It is now just 2, and the second is still not a confirmed event.
Why are you asking women to spend money when there isn't a reason too. If the Chicago round was before the cut-off I could see the point, but why now?
Could you expound on this a bit, It may help in my decision making.
Signed, New Kid.

I've sent my first 'prayer card' to the Astrodome in Houston and will do so every week until all the people have left and found a new 'lease on life' Enshala! Children love receiving cards with pretty pictures of Love and Hope, it gives them a strong sense of being in one's thoughts and they identify with it too, especially when it comes from distant places!

I am soooo happy to see the animals being taken care of and the story of this one brave Dr. in particular who refused to abandon the animalas he was asked to care for. I loved 'babysiting' my daughter's 'dwarf rabbit' named POH(HOP spelt backwards:) but alas they have to leave, studying time has begun for my daughter!

Chicago sounds as though it is shaping up to be an incredible soiree, you go girls!!! Would be nice to have the song 'Itz Rainin' Men' come into fruition considering that our Senior Bachelor's 'peacock feathers' are going to be 'fanned out' once again in Chicago Chicago da da da da da:)

Hi Ladies:

Richard and I are working furiously on the hotel in Chicago. Again, your patience and understanding are most appreciated. Once again, the power of such an amazing group is making these hotels (and other service providers) stand up and take notice. They want you to party with them!

Let me answer a few questions that have popped up here:

1. "Nancy in Ohio"- it is virtually impossible for Richard (or Umberto or me) to acknowledge each submission individually. Best to have whatever shipping company you are using get an acknowledgement for you.

2. "CB"- how about adding the new word "flogging" to your list! That's what Richard and I call the flurry of postings on the blog when we make a mistake! LOL!

3. Anon "New Kid"- If you have not submitted your materials by the deadline of September 16 then, you are right, what would be the reason to come to Chicago. But, if you have been reading the blogs and all the comments from the Ladies who did attend, you saw a great deal of comraderie going on and meeting other women of similar likes for adventure and travel. Ask you question of them here on the blog and see what responses you get.

4. "Dreamweaver"- what a lovely suggestion to send prayer cards to the Astrodome. My former sister-in-law and her husband (who is a retired neurosurgeon) are both volunteering there and they say every little bit would help. Can you imagine how the survivors must feel and how a note from a stranger knowing they are thinking about them would make them feel. I'm taking this to my kid's school and having them write letters to the other kids. What a great group of considerate people you Ladies are!

Still working on posting more photos from MB. Keep those Chicago suggestions coming...

Hello Born to Travel - I'm thinking about Chicago! Some days I think yes and then there are days I think not. I've been following the SB blog for quite a while and stayed silent for quite some time. I grew up in MB and the excitment building up to the big event - well it was just great to be a part of it even if I was not there.

I have the weekend to make a final decision about Chicago. That is if there is a decision made by Mr. Roe and his countless helpers. :)

To "Annonymous New Kid: Richard has already answered your question many times, since others have been confused, also. The "deadline" of Sept 17th, is a ONLY a deadline for getting your materials (video, bio, picture) MAILED to him. The two "soirees" (MB and CHI) are unrelated to that deadline. He has told us many times that his goal is to narrow down the field by the first week of October. I am supposing that it will take that last 2 weeks of September for him to review the hundreds of tapes that he is probably receiving. Then having reviewed your tape and bio, he will be ready to meet you in CHI. Hope this helps you and others who are confused!! love, shar

Just for sporty fun!

'two extreme sports enjoying modest success recently (according to stories in, respectively, Time magazine and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin): 1) Yak skiing in Manali, India: a person on skiis and holding a bucket of nuts is attached to a yak by a long rope fixed to a pulley on a hilltop, with the yak near the top and the skier far below. The skier rattles the bucket loudly to infuriate the yak, which then charges down, yanking the skier rapidly uphill and (2) Ancient, luge-like Hawaiian lave sledding: a daredevil lies on his stomach, 4 inches off the ground on a handcrafted board about 6 feet long, and slides down a 700 foot long rock formation at speeds from 30 to 70 mph.'

Anyone, anyone?

As for Oprah, I wanted to mention something that she said to me...It was said while taping, but edited...The women who star in How Clean is Your House do not believe in animals sleeping on the bed...Oprah told me that her beloved dog always sleeps with her, and that told me alot about a woman I have come to admire greatly, even when I criticize her, I can't help but love her too!!
For those who want Oprah tickets, I would try everything you know to get them NOW!! I was at the Coach store, and the lady behind the counter told me she had lived in Chicago her whole life and had never been able to get tickets...It was real 'iffy' for me to get a ticket for my very best friend when she came to Chicago-so, GO4IT!! NOW!!
Peace and Joy,
CJ

Chicago Update: I still do not have the final confirmations from the hotel!! September is a very, very busy month in Chicago and I do not want us scattered in different hotels. I remain 95% certain it will be Friday September 29 and Saturday October 1. And Joe, and Umberto and myself MIGHT come in early Thursday afternoon so we can all go out to dinner with the "early birds," which is what happened in Manhattan Beach. If so, I will have breakfast with any interested ladies and start meetings right after breakfast Friday morning, so we can get extra time Thursday night and Friday morning. And I will stay for breakfast on Sunday morning as well. This is exactly how the 2 day MB Event turned into a 4 day Event, which was fine with me. To clarify any uncertainty, the deadline remains September 16, and to be considered for the journey, materials must be postmarked by Sept.16. If someone would like to say "hello" in Chicago, who has not submitted the materials on time, and know that they will not be eligible, that's OK if I have the time. I'll be back as soon as I get the right hotel. Ciao, RR

Reason for going to Chicago post 9/16 to meet RR & posse? Its' called an Egotrip. If it was to just meet other ladies, how many would go?

From what THE MAN has told us, he has travelled the last 10 years mostly by himself, with no one else to consider. Also no hint how he could afford to do such extensive travelling.

To South America you'll have a third person with you, the rest is unknown.

Anon, when a post is deleted by RR's blog police, no mentioning of it appears on this blog.

Yea...I for one am happy about the dates. I'll get the 50's reunion over next week end...Our chairman from class of '55 died suddenly in his back yard of a massive heart attack 2 weeks ago and he did so much we'll miss him like crazy. Richard do you have any pull if I stay a few extra days getting me into Oprahs taping on one of the days? CJ said it's really hard to get tickets. I'll start calling Mon. I need to deliver some money for the Angel network from my great grand children. Any help would be appreciated. I have the MRI xrays done Mon. but I told the doctor I'm going to Chicago hurting or not. He thought it was funny when I told him about you. Of course he never watches Opera so doesn't know what goes on outside the doctor's office and hospital. Thanks for making this so fun. I love ANTICIPATION. MMQC

Me thinks we need to add another f to the fit, fun, free--frustration?!

I, for one, have needed to cancel three appointments on the east coast already in order to attempt to combine some trips with Chicago and I am still no closer to the event than last month.

Most of us have freebees with HH Hilton Honors, Starwood or others so a hotel should be the least of our problems. After all aren't we independent travelers and adults?

I appreciate the complexity of organizing such an event and appreciate the efforts of all,
however, at this point I must ask is it time to let go?

Hi Ladies,

Now, let's play nice on the blog-one of the "Anons"- no rude comments allowed (one was deleted). We are so beyond that sort of thing here.

"Anon 1" and/or "Anon 2": Agreed, many probably do have some sort of frequent stay awards they could use for a hotel. But the event in MB exceeded everyone's expectations and the majority did not use award points because the Ayres Hotel is an independent chain. Why did they choose to pay for their rooms instead of using awards? Just go back and read this and the previous two blogs. If any of the reasons you read from the Ladies who went don't appeal to you, then don't go. Simple as that. Having most of the Ladies at the same hotel seemed to add to the bonding, energy level and excitement.

Remember the primary reason for the "Meet the Senior Bachelor Event" is for you to meet Richard and Richard to meet you. This event provided the opportunity for face to face meetings. And, it turned out for so many, much much more. Richard has stated before that not going to one of the "Meet the Senior Bachelor Events" will not count against you in the evaluation for the Search for the Perfect Traveling Companion.

Here is another article about the Manhattan Beach event that came out in a regional newspaper called "The Beach Reporter":

I promise, after the kid's soccer and football games this weekend, more photos!

I think I know what part of the 'anonymous' problem is: logging on incorrectly. I wrote on the blog a couple of times, using the identity of anonymous, because I couldn't figure out how else to get on. It took me a couple of tries before I realized that you click 'other' and you are then able to type in a name. Prior to that, I was trying to get on by clicking on blogger... but since I don't have a web page, I obviously couldn't get on. Anyway...I have a feeling that a few other of the anonymous people are doing the same thing.
Richard since you are having so much trouble coming up with a place for us to stay in Chicago, why not show us how adaptable you are and switch to another city? What about St. Louis? Dallas?

Hey what about us Canajuns.....eh?? Montreal would be good.LOL!

To all the Bloggettes/Bloggers who are not playing so "nice"
A message from my mentor, my very wise grandmother, she would sing this to me when I was a little girl and I was being "not so nice"...

"There was a little girl who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead, and when she was good she was VERY VERY good, and when she was bad ,she was VERY VERY bad!"

Where or where is that naughty mat when we need it??

So ladies of the Blog.......quite simply..........
It is what it is and it isn't what it isn't.......don't make things unecessarily complicated......the choice is yours, take it or leave it and play nice!! or you just may get a Flogging ( with a wet noodle) via the Blogging....(that was for you Joe!)
wishing you all and more in health, life and love

Hello everyone. Sounds like you are having tons of fun. I haven't kept up with any of this (sun was shining and I was rollerblading) and so have missed much of the goings-on. I'm out of the blog loop although I did send in my video & stuff.....had such a good time making my video. My children are very used to my silly antics but I drove them (and my friends) a bit crazy by making them tape me over and over. FUN!

lady base camp - you have some wise words.
droma - 3 in South America?
canadian bloggette - I'm in Vancouver, where do you live? Enjoy your time with your daughter. Maybe I'll see you out on the seawall.

Ladies, if you are into a wonderful film about Romance, adventure, song, dance and India - try watching a film 'bride and prejudice' which is a takeoff from the Jane Austen novel, 'Pride and Prejudice'. What color! What beauty! And what plain fun! Lalita tries to foil love from a wealthy American and the plot thicken with the ever helpful mother arranging marriages. It was a fun Friday evening complete with granddaughter, popcorn and dogs!

Hugs to all!

I think RR is mature enough to read through the biographys and sort out who is mature enough to be a real travel partner for him. Someone who can deal with mosquito bites, broken nails, missing a couple of meals/flights/lattes, losing baggage, no electricity, traveler's diarrhea, rashes, no air conditioning, open-air markets, air/sea sickness, jelly fish bites, language blocks, constipation, trains/buses without w/c's, leg cramps, shin splints, sunburn, decompression sickness and insomnia. WITHOUT MOANING AND GROANING AND COMPLAINING. Beauty is only skin deep and it is really the mature SOUL who can endure. I have seen more than a couple of 70 year olds who spend their days complaining about the present, past and the future. Age in calendar years really doesn't count worth beans, if you haven't learned anything or ventured anything. Someone should have some serious net worth of some type of asset in their life, by calendar age '50'.

So, let's see if the cream really does rise to the surface in the final selection, whether it be the sweet sixteen or the finaly four.

Hello everyone,
Just a Pot Pourri of comments, questions tonight.

Hello Joe,
When you mentioned in your post that you, RR, and Umberto are doing your best to acknowledge receipt of the Journey Materials I believe you! Everyone should know that there are more than 1000 videos, etc. that Richard has to deal with. My comment Joe is that some of us brought our Materials to MB or sent them some other way that can't be tracked. My Materials came to MB via my "Pony Express"(a 1996 Oldsmobile) so I would like to know if Richard received them, if at all possible.

Droma,
Yes, there will be 3 people on each leg of the Journey; Richard, the lucky woman, and Umberto. Umberto's purpose on the Journey will be one of great importance and is priceless in Richard's eyes. Umberto, a sweet, capable young man, will be doing the nitty gritty work of making arrangements for every leg of the Journey. This is so Richard isn't spending precious time, which he should be spending with his traveling partner, making arrangements. In this case Droma 3's Company, not a crowd!
If you read some of my previous posts and those of others then you would know that the trip to MB wasn't about Richard totally. The trip was for each and every woman who made it for their own specific reasons. And Yes there were many there just to meet the other women from the Blog, and there were some who hadn't sent any materials to Richard at all. Some of those women are still not going to send in materials for whatever reason.
Droma, if you have a chance to go to Chicago, do it for yourself most of all. It's a chance to get out of "Dodge", get some fresh cool northern air, and meet some really amazing women who have travelled the world and have such wonderful, tragic, exciting, happy, and sad experiences to share. Give the trip a shot and determine to have a good time!

Suzan, thank you so much for the heads up on the photos on your Blog page! Such great smiles from everyone! We were all blessed to be in MB!

Ladies, as Richard has said, the decisions he has to make on travel partners after the deadline is passed are possibly the most difficult he has ever had to make. Can you imagine having to choose 12 semifinalists, then narrow it down to 6 travel partners out of more than 1000 women that have sent in materials from everywhere??? Patience is a virtue and one we all that are considering the Journey and have sent in materials, have to acquire.
So let us all support Richard in his endeavor and send good vibes, thoughts, prayers his way to help him make some good decisions about who he should take as his traveling partners.

I'm leaping off of my very high "soap box", preaching platform, and or lecture podium for now....lol.

Spreading the Love,
Lois

It's not at all,all Richard that I want to go. My husband used to own an oil storeage tank cleaning business and did clening in Joliet so I'd fly into O'Hare and he'd pick me up. I want to reminises about some of those times...Drury Lane Theater, Planetariun, museum, restraunts etc. We know the odds of winning Richard are like a long ,long shot....But look at the horse races. There's been some very long shots win in the derbys. I also want toi meet Joe and his pretty and funny wife. I know Richard doesn't have time to "Roe everybody's boat." Lovingly, MaryB.
