WOW! You Go Girl(s)

Please don't slam me for using the word girls. It is not used in a pejorative sense, just quoting a popular phrase.

I do enjoy stacking up the kindling wood, then starting a little spark, then sitting back and see if the fire catches, or burns out. Ha ha.

We have some new people on the blog (or is it some of the same commenters using a different name??) (Hmm, we'll probably never know). Joe and I have tried to have men participate on this blog, but it hasn't caught on with them. As you know, I am always encouraging new voices to be added to the mix-again life is too short for real mean-spirited stuff so let's continue to keep it fun and informative.

You would be surprised how many people read the blog daily, but choose not to participate. I am always seeking new topics, so girls, I mean ladies, fire away!! RR

Hi - I have an 'airport question'. If there is more than one airport in Seattle, what is the name of the one closest to the hotel in which we'll be staying prior to the Alaskan cruises?

Thanks -

Where can we find the itenary and shore excursions for the cruise? For example, is it possible to board in Victoria or Anchorage if preferable rather than Seattle?

Hi Again, I still havn't left for the market. I love the new post. It is positive, educational, and thought provoking, and she who loves words will learn a new one today. I have to get out the dictionary to look up RR's word relating to calling us girls. Already forgot it, but will look back. You can call me a girl anytime you want, Mr. RR. I have always said that this blog has been a great source of learning, and dispite a squabble now and then, it has been mostly positive. The two men, RR and Joe are masters of suspense and have kept alive this blog for over a year, and I might add that they must truly love women to put up with some of our foolishness day after day. So, Val, I have suspected that Ted might be one of our hosts, Richard or Joe, but I also think we will never know for certain. Val, is it raining men up in Canada? I sure as heck is not down in the big "D." PEACE - Lady Jayne

Neva, Best you contact Shawn at Holland America at 1-800-355-3017 Ext. 4294 for answers to those questions. But bear in mind that you will miss the fun in Seattle starting 2 days before each sailing if you board elsewhere!

I have consistently said I will not censor comments unless they are wildly inaccurate or mean. I believe healthy discussions are just that-healthy.

I have been surprised there has not been more political comments. I would love to see comments on both sides.

OK. I'll throw a bomb out. If you support this administration, let's hear from you. And vice-versa.

Nancy, If you Google...Seattle airports you will get your answer.

Val, I am not sure of the Mediterranean cruise in March. I am leaning towards a Caribbean cruise which goes through the Panama Canal. I will have more information on that right after the Alaska cruise when I will take a poll of the 200+ participants and see what they favor.

C'mon, some of you readers that aren't commenting. Please come on board. RR

I'm afraid I don't feel knowledgeable enough on American politics to comment here. But I'd love to hear from others.

If you're interested in commenting on the topic of retirement, drop over to my site where I've put up a new post on that topic. Apparently, the word retirement is practically obsolete now, since most people who retire move into another area of interest where there is less stress. The new word is "lifeshift" which pretty much sums it up for me, at least. If Richard doesn't mind us blogging about the topic here, that's fine, but you're welcome any time on my site, too.

RR: I have conflicting views pertaining to the Political Arena! From the outside looking in whatever the Leaders do once they are 'in power' is completely different to what they profess to want to change whilst walking the 'campaign trail'. I cannot lie about truly feeling that the person I vote for is THE one for the job, I will always question????
Hence I will always feel a level of discomfort regarding the campaigning, voting and of course the end results! Someone once said, and I quote "If You Don't Vote, You Are Not Part Of the Changes" When changes are not in favour of what THE PEOPLE really need...such as the 'grass roots' problems, poverty, homeless, abused Men, Women And Children, affordable housing, low income bracket, upgrade of the school buildings, raising the minimum wage, equal opportunity in the workplace ie. Women's earnings on par with the Men, (more WOMEN in the Boardroom) salaries for Nursing, Firefighters, Police Force, Teachers, Day Care etc.
These problems exist within every government body worldwide and will continue to exist as long as they maintain the present Status Quo!
Oprah's Show on Friday was about just that...raising the minimum wage as families can no longer keep up with the stress and struggle! It isn't only in America, it is in everyone's backyard, so to speak and since Katrina it is in everyone's face and rightfully so. June 1st is the start of the Hurricane season again and they will not have the levees fixed in time! Where is the administration/governments $$$$$$
This side of the border is no different, we still have hundreds of homeless walking the streets, schools in dire need of repair etc. By the way Iraq today finally has a political leader/party and who knows what the long term outcome of Iraq will be? You can't fight fire with fire!
So, I am very reluctant when it comes to voting polls, that is just me!
All of what I've said here is merely a synopsis of what my feelings are re. the political arena/administration. The current arcaic method is passe already!
Our Children are the future politicians, they will rule differently!

Hey Ladie Jane...Wish I'd have had you with me here in Tulsa...I just had a Texas size Beef and Cheddar baked potatoe at McAllister's Deli. I brought a to go box home that's got enough left for 2 more meals.
Val, I assume you are a singer, right? Do you remember "I'm Just A Girl That Can'tSayb NO"???? I used to sing it all the time...and "This Is My Once A Year Day."
I steer clear of too many opinions out loud on politics. I served on the P.A.R.B. board in Jay ,Ok. which is very private files of the judges and we help him or her with decissions on the mistreated children. It is sooo sad when you get to know what is going on with some of these precious children. It makes you sick. We could not discuss our cases. We had to have special trainning classes. It stands for Post Arbitration Review Board. Then I was active on the R.P.A.C. board many years in real estate. I saw my x husband last night that was a state represenative for Ok. House. He's retired now and still pulling in $100,000 lobbing for a cement company. I try to tell myself that they do the best they can with what they have to do with but I've been told I look at the world through rose colored glasses.
I had a companion flight freeby so had to go to the air port today to get it ticketed and then sit on the phone with Delta I don't know how long and ended up having to use 50000 flyer miles because they were out of the regular ones for Aug. 8th but we're all set now and got The Red Lion booked for 8th through the 10th.
Leslie I retired from real estate (I still went ahead and did my C.E. hours) but went inactive so I will probably substitute teach some next year. You could get your real estate licinse and we could see which is most stressful to us???

Hi Merry Mary, I have occasionally thought about real estate. I've bought and sold many times - and always made money on each transaction. I even did it buying & selling when I lived in the wilderness and there were no agents closer than a 6-hour drive away. Any time I went looking for a new place, my agents couldn't believe what a great eye and memory for details I had. They suggested I give it a go. But...I don't think I need that aggravation now. My dream is to write my book while traveling to meet all you ladies who have so graciously agreed to share your stories with me. I have you on my list, by the way so Oklahoma here I come - some day when I can't stand the damp. What's the weather like in OK year-round? Pardon my ignorance, but do you have 4 seasons? In Vancouver, we have 4 but seldom cold or snowy in winter. It's just like a loooooong autumn but with only green for colour.

I do not support the current administrations actions relative to the war on terror and a few other issues. I do believe, however, that one does the best one can with the knowledge and people available at the time. (Overall, I am a very trusting person until I am shown otherwise.) If that puts me on the fence then on the fence I am at this point, since I don't have better solutions to offer.

Richard Re Alaska--I will make the call to Shawn on Monday. I think it might be possible for me to board in Victoria on the first cruise and stay in Seattle the two days following the first cruise.
(It is becomimg extremely expensive and less desirable for me to go to Seattle from where I will be at the time. Victoria or somewhere in Alaska might be doable however. Still checking.)

If Seattle is a must,I think there is a ferry and/or seaplane that goes to Seattle from Victoria regularly but I can't seem to find any information about either. Does anyone know how I can get info on the ferry or seaplane?

Leslie--I have retired twice (once from education administration, once from teaching grad school) and now a third time from consulting and real estate. I guess life shifts
might be more fiting here. Each time, I thought would be my last retirement. Then I meet people in their 80s who are starting third and fourth careers and doing well, and I think to myself what a wonderful world! Congratulations on your decision to retire! Enjoy.

Ada--Welcome back. Glad to see you had a successful trip.

Willy--I tried to send you some Maui Pineapple when I returned, but didn't have your address, so I ate them. I put a message asking you to e-mail it to me, but I put it on my blog instead of yours. (My body is still not sure what day and time it is and my mind isn't helping it too much.) Any chance you can schedule Alaska, August 11-18? Send me an e-mail when your get a chance please.

Val, Funny you should mention Isadora Duncan. She is one of my idols. Did you know she died in an auto crash when she was quite young. I loved the idea of her interpretive dance tha t broke away from the French and Russian ballet methods. I have two books about her. I also love the song Mustang Sally. My little car was so cute and attracted so much attention. The legal justice I spoke of earlier is the same type of justice that tried to get Oprah. Remeber when these Texas Cattle men sued her.AND LOST!! Well, that is the same mentality I had to deal with in a court here. Fortunately, Judge Kelly ended up with kidney stones from the hex I put on him. HA-HA-HA-HA
The girls that worked for him were on my side. They laughed and laughed when I told them about my hex. I jinxed the old goat..... I am looking for an Isadora perfume bottle ca. 1979. I have the mini. Isadora was really something, a lady that lived way before her time. Later, JanieGirl

AND NOW, MY POLITICAL VIEWS: In response to our host's suggestion. I am against this current administration for many, many reasons, but I don't know enough horrible adjectives to describe the most corrupt, stupid, disloyal administration since the Nixon admin. The adjectives that come to mind should not be printed by me on this blog. They are not very lady like. What these guys are doing makes the Nixon bunch look like alter boys. These guys are totally corrupt. It would take a book to mention all the things these birds are doing. Every darned one of them should be thrown out on their fannys right in the street, and Rumsfeld should get the biggest boot. OH GOODNESS, I sound just like my Daddy. I sometimes think the U.S. is the laughing stock of the world. I am afraid that I sided with the French, German and Russian administrations over Iraq. The operative word here is OIL. Now "W" is telling us that "We are addicted to oil." My response to that also cannot be printed on this blog. I still like John Kerry. He really won the election as did Al Gore. And, if Ross Perot were to run again, I would support him. So, this is part of my take on the current political scene in our country. I don't think RR's blog has enough mega bytes to hold my oh! so lengthy ramblings about "W" and worst of all, Mr. Evil, Karl Rove. JanieGirl

Dear JanieGIRL;)
I vaguely remember reading that Isadora Duncan used to wear long flowing scarves whilst driving her convertible and met her demise that very way, the scarf got caught in the wheel and wrapped around it, and hence her death as a result of that! She danced to the beat of her own drum, a fascinating woman, you're so right in saying she was way ahead of her time!
Did you ever see the movie 'The Great Gatsby' starring Robert Redford? I love the mystery and intrigue, how he used to watch his Beloved from a distance......ooh L-Dy don't get me started ;)

I may be better off without a convertible. Who knows, I may have been beheaded on the George H.W. Bush Freeway, and then they would have laughed and said "serves her right" for all the things she has said about "W" and his "Daddy." I only had the top down on my little car once. I am trying to think of the movie star that was be-headed while speeding along on Airline Hwy. in NOLA. Val, please enlighten me before we use up our 30 percent usage of this blog. There are a couple books that may be of interest:

"The Source" I & II, by James A. Michener
A Jewish History starting ~ 1700 B.C.E.
The first volume was written in 1965,
the second in 1966.
I think the 7 year war started in 1967.
The books I have start with an Introduction written by Michener in November 1988.
Very interesting, worth trying to look for when getting "The Source"..

And of course:
"The Great Getsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald

These books show amazing insight into the peoples' psyche, which doesn't seem to change much over hundreds of years.

BTW, when riding in a convertible the hair flies into the face, not float backward. A real nuisance, besides not looking very sexy.
I wear a hat to keep the hair out of my face when driving my blue 1974 XKE--V12.
Maybe this retro flow of air got Isadora Duncan's scarf caught in the spokes of the car's wheel.

Val,Dreamweaver, No you are not in a twilight zone. It's me. Ding!! Ding!!Ding!
I have not seen Charles in over 40 years and I have not met Martha. So, sweet Val, I have no idea what his political convictions might be. I know he was an oil man, worked for an oil company for many, many years. My other friends in La. think differently than I do about this admin. So, when I am in their homes, I shut up unless they bring it up. I am getting the giggles also. So, that is cleared up. Ding! Ding! LadyJayne Oh! Val, I have never read Lady Chatterly's Lover. However, I have read the Great Gatsby and seen the movie. Later

WOW...amazing Jane Fonda, got to read her book 'My Life So Far' She truly shines with 'IT'
Living in Atlanta, 68 years young,
hoping to meet her Soulmate and looking more beautiful now than ten years ago, and no facelifts!!!
She even said the women all look the same with their Botox puffy eyes, cheeks, lips etc.
June 1st is 'The Jane Fonda Roast' in Atlanta with Larry King as 'Roast Master' should be a FUN evening!
I intend watching the show again at 12 midnite/9pm on the West Coast, she is an inspiration and a strong yet gentle voice for the WOMEN of this new 21st Century!
She is the epitome of 'TODAY'S WOMAN' No holds barred, arrow flies straight>>>>>intelligent, spiritual, connected, caring, loving, compassionate, humorous, peace-loving Soul!

Good Morning RR, Joe, Posse, Fellow Travellers and existing complainers too;

For those of you complaining, why don't you contribute towards RR wanting to know who does or does not support the current administration, instead of continuousely ~~making waves~~ Your POSITIVE input would add to the existing camraderie and FUN on the blog, if you can't beat them, join them!
'Lighten Up' misery loves company and you are alone in that! If it is gossip and badmouthing people that you are seeking , then this blog is not conducive to that kind of interaction, keep it in your private emails and blogs! As I have said before, y' can't please everyone!

People don't participate on this blog because if a (certain) few people disagree with other people's ideas or opinions, they get called names. It has nothing to do with being people angry or miserable, just with some folks having a different point of view to share. Whatever happened to freedom of expression? This blog is censored by a few people (not Richard).

It's not a matter of misery loves company. There has been a lot of name calling on this blog, and it has always been by the so-called "happy" MAS and never by anyone else.

So people are hesitant to log on and have a conversation, because you-know-who will jump up and blast away, both guns blazing. There is a lot of anger coming from a self-professed "happy" person.

A difference of opinion is not gossip and badmouthing. Who are you to say "this blog is not conducive to this kind of interaction". Who are you? You are the self-professed gatekeeper of someone else's blog, and you do not permit healthy or lively interaction between other people.

My grandfather was a Captain in the British Army and I remember he once told me that the world is full of bullies. They will push and push but once you stand up to them they cry "not fair, not fair".

Bullying can come in many forms, and it can be coated with sugar.

Why can't we all play nice in this playground? Stop censoring people because you don't happen to agree with what they are saying.

And no, I am not miserable. It's a beautiful sunny day, I'm having my morning coffee, and I am off to spend time with some wonderful people at work.

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.

Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin.

They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

Shut up. You know it's funny. :D

Thank you soft rain!! And now, for you Ms. Val,Dreamweaver. Ignore them and they will go away. I have to say that you and I have consistantly posted as who we are, on one blog, this one, and we have never, to my knowledge talked out of both sides of our mouth on this blog and the other one. There are few who come here, call this the BS blog and the go over to the other with dirty remarks about men, and everyone in general. Let us just ignore them. If they don't get any attention here, they will go away. They have very distorted thinking, and they know you and I know what fuels them. This blog belongs to our HOST, and if he wants Val and I to stop posting, he will tell us so. Oh! Val, later today, in another post, I want to address your most interesting post about the Holy Lands. You know so much about such interesting subjects. To all the wonderful, intelligent and friendly GIRLS on this blog, I say, HAVE A GREAT DAY. xxoo JANIEGIRL

Re the comment about other blogs calling this the BS blog, I could care less. It's a free country and they can call this blog whatever they want to. As far as "them" complaining about men, I don't know that to be true or untrue because I never read other blogs. I think it's safe to say that there are a lot of very frustrated people everywhere, and often times those people are most comfortable with others who are also frustrated.

Bottom line to me, it's freedom of speech in our great country and as long as this blog remains "fair" and not mean-spirited, all is fine with me.

As far as people feeling the blog is dominated by just a few people, I say, join in!! RR

I have never heard anyone refer to this as the BS blog. And I have never heard anyone complaining about men. I have heard frustration, however, at people being able to join in. In the blog above someone says "Let us just ignore them. If they don't get any attention here, they will go away."

That's the attitude that drives people away, so no one wants to participate and they give up.

I have read some interesting posts from some very interesting people on this blog, but it has been almost impossible to continue communication with them. They give up and I give up as well. I'm sure that has universally been the case here.

I agree with you Richard, it is freedom of speech, but it seems to be open to interpretation. Blogs should be fun. They are a great way to "meet" people from other parts of the world, other walks of life, with other cultures, ideas, opinions, etc. Not everyone is the same and that is what makes people interesting. But I guess as the person in the above blog says, just ignore them and they will go away.

Hello RR, Joe, Posse, Friendly Fellow Travelers and complainers!

WHOA ......who let the DOGZ OUT???
woof ;) grff....grrr

droma/dr.oma/wanderlust/ you need to improve your 'bedside manner' you 'feed off' all the negativity on the blog and change your colours like the Chameleon as you see fit! One bad apple spoils the whole barrel!
Kindly restrict your insults and snide comments to your private email and/or other people's email and blogs. The air is pure and clean here and we intend to keep it that way! Show some respect for Richard as this is his BLOG and we are in his livingroom, so to speak!
If you can't respect our 'space' here then play elsewhere, but refrain from 'polluting' this blog with your harsh, abrasive manner!
I have a right to be here as much as everyone else and even if I have a 'heated discussion' which is very healthy at times, it certainly does not warrant crossing the 'line of respect'!
By the way when I drive my Cherry Red Miata Convertible, my long hair never blows in my face and my sunglasses remain intact! Toot Toot! My 'disabled arm' as you so eloquently put it(wow what tact) is 100% purrfekt on the wheel!
re. volunteer work.....I devoted 2 FULL YEARS of my life to volunteer work full-time, you know NOTHING about me other than the little that I have chosen to disclose in my writing here on Richard's blog
You don't know a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes, so kindly reserve your 'advice' for elsewhere, I AM A COMPLETE STRANGER TO YOU and will always be ;)
I see you have conveniently shifted your 'negative energy' 'ATTACK MODE' from my FRIEND Janiegirl, to me, wow you doing 'the rounds' !

JANIEGIRL: oh L-Dy GIRL...the world can be cruel..phew Sister...what an eye-opener! :) I say again thank goodness we have proven to be 'true blue' honest open people here, what you see is what you get...take it or leave it!

MERRY/MARY: sweet as usual!

NANCY-IN-DUBAI: someone walked into my club today and addressed me as 'habibi'...I thought of you

This is fun and information needed and I am a man, Richard. I put this as well on Oprah's message board under the one about stillness and what do you know for sure. Using the same name I use here. I know my subject are kind of odd but really needed information for ALL! Just give a little feedback and we can go from there!
I know that for sure, and that will bring stillness or that is PEACE AND SECURITY! I know for sure clergy keep standing in the way of stillness coming to our great earth. Once that global fix is taken care of there will be peace at last! See website for honest details.

Dreamweaver, you are so predictable. Once again you are calling names and hurling insults. For all your "happiness" do you have any idea how negative and angry you actually come across? But you know, you do make the blog entertaining, but not in the way you imagine.

In real life you are probably a very nice person. In any case, you can ignore the people you don't wish to address, without calling them DOGZ.

Dear Josie!
I don't have to prove myself in any way shape or form. I am a very HAPPY FUN LOVING SOUL and would rather giggle than 'face off' now and again but, we are creatures not only of habit, sensitive delicate, loving Beings who, in our hearts of hearts do not hate or like negative abrasive mannerisms and when someone such as dr.oma blatantly throws a dagger straight to the solar plexus, so to speak, then I have to defend myself without crossing the line of respect and dignity! It is fine to have a disagreement or dispute but not to blow the exisiting issue out of proportion and make a mountain out of a molehill! ALL of us have issues and tempers whether we admit it or not, we know it is impossible to get on with everyone all the time!
This blog has been an incredible source of interaction and sharing unlike I have ever experienced. Josie if you had said to me a year ago when Richard first appeared on Oprah Thursday April 27th that I'd be blogging, I would have said NO WAY, I have better things to do!
NEVER SAY NEVER ;) Believe it or not I live a very Peaceful, Happy Blessed Life and take each day as it comes with all the challenges!
You truly live in Lotusland!

I didn't want to ruin the rest of my weekend by reading this blog -- I was right. It took me less than 2 minutes to scroll through the same ole, same ole -- I would never tell anyone to get a life, but come on!! To keep beating a dead horse!
The few comments about why other people don't comment here are right on -- why bother?? You just get slammed!
And the ones that "own" this blog (the girls that should be trading emails) do not "express their own opinions" -- face it -- their opinions are fact!! It is their way or the highway. No other opinion is right. They are always right. No debate, no nothing. How boring
Josie & Ellen, keep trying you two. I doubt the hard heads here will give you a break (or the dogz??)
According to nutty Jane, who wrote all those comments from some "charles" herself (then didn't remember who he was!!) (yet she complimented herself so eloquently) "Ignore them, they will go away"
So nice, Janie
And so welcoming to newcomers, too
Have fun with the 2-3 people merry -go-round
As far as requests for political comments, I would love to spout on such fools as SKerry, etc, (not a typo -- he is verrry scary) but I would be called wrong, even though it's just an opinion
ps -- yes, scientology is a cult, and Tom Cruise a total nut case!!!!

Hi Richard, well since I posted at 7:50 a.m. today, there has been no change in the back-biting. You say that as long as your blog is fair and not mean-spirited, all is fine with you. But - things are now mean-spirited. I've tried to join in, as you encourage, by suggesting a discussion of women and retirement (or as they call it now, a "life shift.") I was totally ignored. I tried to lighten things up this morning with a joke, yet I come home from a hard day's work to more nastiness.

I think it's time to post a new blog and try to start over. We'd like to hear from you a bit more often - join in on the conversations. I'd also like to see everyone here address everyone, rather than have private conversations back and forth where one may feel uncomfortable about joining in. Just as it would be rude to monopolize the conversation at a social event (let's say in your living room), it is also rude to do so here.

I've come to look forward to checking in to see if there's something to comment on. Lately, I've had no luck and am tempted not to bother. Let's all try harder.

With total sincerity, Leslie
