    Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

We just spent five amazing days in the Amazon!

PLEASE look at the Photo Page as Umberto just posted 101 great pictures. Vicki has proven to be a great travel partner and is game to try anything and everything!!! As you will see from the photos.

Many people have asked "How is this whole situation going to actually work? Or not work? We have three very different people, all of whom have never traveled with each other, and we are going to spend almost a month together-in a foreign country! Married couples, best friends, or families, realize spending this much time together is fraught with possible pitfalls. But that is part of the Adventure. Not knowing. Fun or flop!!! We'll see-stay tuned.

From my point of view, we have all settled into a good rhythm. Fortunately, we all are morning people, and after dinner, ready to hit the hay to be ready for the next day. As you will see from the photos below the Ariau Amazon Towers is located right in the heart of the Amazon Jungle in Brazil. The top of the rain forest, the canopy, is about 50 feet here, and each of us has our own elaborate "tree house" 45 feet up, so 5 feet from the top. Amazing!!! The tree houses have a/c, a few tv stations, and is really like a really cool, old cabin. Perfect.

We each have our own swimming pool as well. Monkeys are all over, as are parrots, many birds, crickets, and all sorts of insects that serenade you all day and night. I woke up to a big snake outside my door this morning. There are also scorpions and alligators, but they are more afraid of us than we are of them, so it really sounds more dangerous than it actually is. The food and tours in the Amazon by the Ariau staff are really super. Again, the photos will show you much of this.

The Ariau has almost 5 miles of catwalks and it's great fun just to walk around them any time of the day. Jill Siegel, a super-expert on Brazil, arranged all of this. Click here to see Jill's site, South American Escapes.

My favorite days were spent on all day trips learning about the amazing medicinal qualities of (it seems) every shrub and tree in the jungle. We've all seen this on television and heard about this, but to see it in person is really powerful. Our guide is a 100% local Indian and I swear knows everything about the jungle.

Another day was learning how to survive in the jungle. It turns out that Survivor Amazon was filmed right here at the Ariau, and one of the guides in the show, showed us all around. There is much more to tell, but with all of the photos which I hope you will see, and Vicki's comments, I'll talk more about the jungle in an updated Newsletter in a few days.

Vicki has "passed" the first Senior Bachelor Survivor Challenge. She has eaten live grubs, (so did Umberto and I and they taste just like cream- Yummy!!), "wrestled" a small alligator (caiman), had an anaconda around her neck, messed with a very nasty tarantula (which was a morbid fear of hers), caught pirhana, fed dolphins, and swung ala Jane from vines. And this was in addition to steamy all day treks. She is a trooper!!!!

I will pass on my comments on how I feel Vicki and I are getting along in the updated Newsletter in a few days. Right now I am pooped and need to get some rest.

    As always, safe travels.

    Ciao for now,

    Richard Roe

The bookings for the Alaska Cruises next summer are very brisk! Hard to think about the cool weather of Alaska while handling the heat and humidity of Brazil!

I exchanged emails with Shawn, our Personal Cruise Consultant, and she wants me to remind you that these two cruises are in the "peak" of the Alaska cruising season. They are very popular in their own right- much less with the added attraction of having us party-ers on board! So please start checking your travel calendar and, if you think there is a chance you want to go, contact her ASAP. Your deposit goes directly to Holland America Lines and is completely refundable up to 75 days before the cruise.

For information about the Senior Bachelor Cruise, click here! Remember to send me an email at if you need a cruise cabin mate to save the single supplement. We've already matched up a whole bunch of people and I will be able to help you even while on the Journey. From Peggy:

"To the rest of the SB hopefuls-I joined Perfect Match about 10 days ago, and am overwhelmed-I have had two dates with the same man, a brunch date this Sunday, and so many e-mails, I am having trouble keeping track-it does wonderful things for the ego! So.....if you haven't joined, you might give it a try!"

Ladies and Gentlemen, many of you have taken the free PerfectMatch Compatibility Profile to learn more about themselves to get better prepared to meet and date. You should try it out, too.

One of the criteria for the 22 Finalists was to take the Free Compatibility Profile and I used the results in making my decisions.

I did take the Free PerfectMatch Compatibility Profile, and it described me to a "T." It was simple and took less than 15 minutes. Of course, the proof is in the pudding, and only time will tell how this service works for you. My recommendation is to take the Free Compatibility Profile (click here to try it), and if you like what you see with the Profile results, and your budget can afford it, give it a try, and then later tell me your feelings. Good luck. We all are looking for our Perfect Match!!!

Many people have asked about our association with PerfectMatch. After seeing Duane Dahl, the founder of PerfectMatch on Dr. Phil this past June, and doing some research, we felt this was a company we would like to start an association with to see what kind of results they might provide. I know from working with the Oprah folks how careful they are to research their guests, as does Dr. Phil, and this encouraged me. (Photo courtesy of "Merry Mary".)

From Linda- "You asked for feedback regarding PerfectMatch. I have subscribed to several online relationship sites with varying amounts of success. However, I believe PerfectMatch has combined the most succinct and efficient program available for those of us with the mature status. Not only is help readily available if needed, the site navigation is seamless. I believe the questionnaires are very well done and if participants answer truthfully, the potential for finding the "perfect match" is excellent."

From a reader in Georgia- "I never desired nor felt the need to join a dating service. On a lark, I decided to try the free personality profile with PerfectMatch. I was floored and amazed how right on they were on about me."
