Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Great fun in Italy in Autumn!
I am presently conducting 2 tours of Italy and the
first one just ended. There were 10 ladies on this
tour and Umberto and myself. The second 2 week
tour starts in about 1 hour so I do not have a lot of
time right now for details, but here's a few.
I really, really love this country. I am Irish by
heritage but I am Mediterranean by nature. My
mother took her first trip out of New York State
when she was 50 years old for a one week trip to
Spain. She did not return for thirteen years!!!! The
old apple theory proves itself again.
I love Italy
because of the people, the super incredible history,
of course the food, and the enormous pride all
Italians take in their culture. They really respect their
antiquities.
The first tour was for 14 days, and the first 2 days
were in Rome, visiting the Vatican and other sights.
Then 5 days in Lerici, right below the Cinque Terre on
the coast of Northeastern Italy. This is Umberto's
home town and where I lived for a year, 2001. Then
3 days in Castellina in Chianti, in between Florence
and Siena, smack dab in the heart of Tuscany.
Of course we all tried a few glasses of the Chianti
Classico and continually marvel at how great the
food is. I am an Etruscan buff, essentially they pre-
dated the Romans and everything you give credit to
the Romans for, like Roman numerals, aqueducts,
gladiators, etc. etc. were all originally Etruscan. The
first 2 kings of Rome were Etruscan as they founded
the city. In fact Rome is an Etruscan word. Orvieto
was one of the main cities of the Etruscans and we
enjoyed 3 days there, then back to Rome. Some of
the ladies returned home, and some new ladies joined
the tour, including my elder sister, Connie.
I am sorry I do not have the time for details and new
photos but they will be forthcoming in future
Newsletters.
On Going Fun for the Senior
Bachelor Group!
I am trying to respond to activities that the Senior
Bachelor group has requested, and not surprisingly,
they consist of having fun and travel. My life
theme!! The tours I am currently leading now
were in response to requests to see the "real Italy."
So, too, was the idea for the Panama Canal cruise, a
Greek Isle cruise and the event November 9 in
Manhattan Beach- described below. Ideally I
will plan events and reunions around the country. I
appreciate your support as we travel through this
Adventure together!
That's it for now. I'll start to send some pictures
back of this amazing country. Here's a few for now!
Ciao for now, Richard Roe Senior Bachelor (To forward this email to a friend, click here.)
Some computers have a problem opening the photos from the Senior Bachelor Newsletter. If so, wait a few days and go to www.seniorbachelor.com and click on the most recent Newsletter and you'll probably be able to see them there.
I am pleased to announce our next group meeting-
sort of a Senior Bachelor Reunion! And the best part-
dinner and cocktails are FREE!
Everyone is invited. If you met new friends
at the
Manhattan Beach and Chicago "Meet the Senior
Bachelor" Events, then get together again in
Manhattan Beach on Thursday, November 9th at
the Ayres Hotel. If you missed any of the
previous events and want to meet really terrific
people who share your interests in travel and
adventure,
please come on by.
Bring any of your friends. We are
going to have a wonderful, gourmet buffet dinner
called "Under the Tuscan Sun" just like we
had at the first "Meet the Senior Bachelor Event."
And free cocktails will
be served until 8:30PM. There will be door prizes too.
All of this is brought to us
free by Crystal Cruises. We'll all get a chance to
learn more about their amazing SIX STAR cruises and
cuisine and talk to company representatives.
If you want to stay overnight or make a long
weekend of it, Joe and I have arranged with the
Ayres Hotel to give you a special rate of $119 per
night per room. This is $30 off the regular rate. The
Ayres Hotel shuttle is available to take you to all the
fun spots in Manhattan Beach.
So catch up with old friends and meet some new
ones. Bring others along to share in the fun. Learn
more about a quality cruise line and party the night
and weekend away in beautiful Manhattan Beach! As
I mentioned above, I will be in Italy at this time but
Joe will be the Master of Ceremonies and we both
guarantee you will have a great, great time!
