WELCOME NEW OPRAH VIEWERS AND PEOPLE READERS!

To all of my fellow Americans, I trust you had a Happy 4th of July. And to the readers from other nations, welcome aboard. Each day the Newsletter list grows as The Oprah Winfrey Show is broadcast at different times in approximately 120 countries. For example, last week the Senior Bachelor segment was aired in Australia and New Zealand, two of my absolute favorite countries in the world, and also part of the upcoming Senior Bachelor Journey. I must say I am getting quite anxious to travel again, especially under these new circumstances!!

I have finally opened, cataloged, and filed all of the videotapes, biographies, letters and pictures, and I have started to review everything in depth. Let me assure you, this is a full time task! I enjoy it immensely, but I have to admit I will be so happy the day the actual Journey begins. Again, my most sincere thanks to all of you wonderful, fantastic women who have sent in your materials and/or are vicariously following along on this Search for Romance and Adventure. I feel as if the first phase of this Adventure is ending and the Search part is beginning in earnest. The deadline for submissions remains September 16, and the anticipated departure date is still sometime in November. I highly encourage everyone to check out www.seniorbachelor.com at least once a week for changes and any new information.

    Some Frequently Asked Questions Answered
    Ruins in Turkey

Some frequently asked questions are; "Do you eat meat?" Yes, but not often. I have a pretty healthy diet of fruits and vegetables and non-fat products, but I must confess to a sweet tooth. I am dangerous if I get around cookies, especially Oreo's! (PLEASE do not send me any cookies!!) "What kind of books do you like to read?" Generally biographies and autobiographies, spy novels, and anything to do with ancient cultures, especially Etruscan!

I lived in Italy for a year (2001) and was totally unaware of who the Etruscans were. They were an amazing group of people!! Essentially, they were the forerunners of the Romans. In fact, the Romans copied almost everything we consider Roman from the Etruscans. Some examples are: Roman numerals were created by the Etruscans, Rome was founded by the Etruscans and the first few kings were Etruscan. The Roman legions, fighting techniques and arms, gladiators, road building, aqueducts, sewers, food, wine, and even the orgies, and much much more, were originally Etruscan. However, the Romans eventually defeated the Etruscans in numerous wars, and they wrote the history books giving themselves credit for everything Etruscan. Excavations over the last 50 years have unearthed the real truth. For more information you can Google "Etruscan" and there is a ton of information available.

"Do I have any health problems?" No, no diseases or illnesses, or allergies, and except for this darned pinched nerve (BTW, took your advice and I feel much better), I feel healthy and ready to go. "How do you feel about pets and animals in general?" I am a total and complete animal lover. I always had pets growing up, and for my married years, but due to my travel schedule, now I enjoy friend's pets. On all of my trips, I am always looking for the local fauna as well as flora. I expect the upcoming Journey will include safaris while in Africa.

"What about your dating life since you've been single?" I was separated in 1992 and officially divorced in 1994 and since then I have had only one serious girlfriend. She was, and is, a wonderful woman, but wanted to have children and my child rearing days are over!! Now, a very much asked question. "Why have you remained single?" That's easy. Up until the last two years I have not been mentally and emotionally ready for a serious relationship. I was grieving from my divorce, and my travel schedule was not conducive to developing and maintaining a committed relationship. Now I do feel ready, and, after a couple of frustrating years of not being able to find my perfect traveling companion (or potential soulmate), I conceived Senior Bachelor.

    Dating Services

I have received literally thousands of questions concerning dating. I mentioned in the last Newsletter that I would check out some dating services as closely as possible and come back to you with my findings. I must admit I have never used a dating service, however if Senior Bachelor did not arise, I would have. One of the dating service companies that checks out very well is eHarmony. Their service is based upon matching personality types. To do this, you take a rather extensive personality profile and, instead of you spending countless hours "searching" for someone compatible, eHarmony does the work for you and provides you with selective matches that appear to be compatible with your personality. As I have learned, it is very important to know more about myself which has helped make me ready to look for and find who best suits me for a deep and lasting relationship. I feel they have the right approach to helping one find out about oneself and what they are looking for. The cost is reasonable at $49.95 for one month to $99.95 for a three month package. Click here to sign up for eHarmony. You can take the personality profile for free by clicking here.

In this world of full disclosure, if you sign up for any of eHarmony's services, I will receive a small commission. I will only recommend a company after I have checked them out to the best of my abilities. Based on Dr. Neil Clark Warren's reputation, and from what others have told me about eHarmony, if you would like help in your search for your soulmate, I do feel eHarmony can be very helpful. The way I look at it, it is not a great expense for the possibility of meeting "him." I would greatly appreciate any feedback, good or bad, from anyone who signs up for this service. I will continue to research other companies and will report back when appropriate. Good luck!!!

    The Senior Bachelor-Film Making Seminar
    Celebrity Tennis Tournament

I know this is very short notice, but over the last four years I have taught many classes and conducted seminars on filmmaking. This Saturday, July 9, I will be conducting a seminar at UCLA from 10-5. I DO NOT share in the fee UCLA charges, which is $115 However, I do receive a small speaking fee. If you would like to attend this seminar, call UCLA at 310-825-9971 or you can sign up online at www.uclaextension.edu. The course number is 854.1 and is titled "The Making of a Documentary Feature Film From A to Z." (Picture on the right, circa 1974- Loved watching Wimbledon this weekend. Do you recognize any of the tennis players and celebrities in this photo? I'm the snappy dresser in the blazer in the middle. Post your answers on the blog at www.seniorbachelor.com Answer next Newsletter.)

    The Senior Bachelor Blog

Periodically I will call your attention to the blog page on www.seniorbachelor.com . It is extremely difficult for me to keep up with answering e-mails, in fact I have almost 1,000 unanswered as I write this. If you write in your comments and questions on the blog page, then I can read them and I can respond via the Newsletters (collectively). Making comments to the blog is extremely simple. If you can send emails, you can "blog." Just remember it is a public forum, so your comments can be read by everyone. Do not provide personal information or your actual email address unless you want people to write to you. I strongly encourage you to give it a try. You will have the ability to delete your comments if you wish (click on the little trash can icon by your comment) and you can post a comment with a "stage" name or anonymously. Bottom line is have fun with it!

Below on the left, highlighted in blue you will see- Forward email. Simply click on those words, and you will see how easy it is to forward this Newsletter to your friends and family for them to enjoy. Thanks so much, in advance, for your help and support.

That's it for this week. Very best wishes to you all and thanks so much for being part of the Journey for Romance and Adventure.

    I remain respectfully yours,

    Richard Roe, The Senior Bachelor
