Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Happy Valentines Day!!
Princess Caroline's Wedding:
I think this will be the last "installment" on Monaco,
at least for a while. In June, 1978 Princess Caroline
of Monaco married Phillipe Junot, and the whole Roe
family was in attendance.

We were invited to come a week early and stay in
The Palace along with some of Grace's good friends;
Cary Grant and his wife, Gregory Peck and his wife,
David Niven and his wife, Frank Sinatra and wife and
Ava Gardner. We ate meals together and watched
movies and everybody was really nice. I spent a lot
of time with three great men, David Niven, Gregory
Peck and Cary Grant. You would never know from the
way they acted towards me and my family that they
were Hollywood stars.

Staying in The Palace was as much fun as you can
imagine. You have your own maid and valets and
anything you want is available 24 hours a day.
Virtually all of the staff of 100 who worked in the
Palace had inherited the jobs from their mothers or
fathers, and they would proudly wear medals showing
their years of service to the rulers of Monaco.

My boys always were dressed like little gentlemen as
inside the Palace it is always formal attire.
My former wife Meg was a flower girl in Grace and
Rainier's wedding and is also the Godmother of
Caroline, and Caroline in turn is Godmother to my
eldest son Richard. I sent some time with Phillipe,
and he scared the heck out of me as we raced
around windy mountain roads in a souped up 12
cylinder Ferrari. Truth be told, I know that Rainer and
Grace and everybody else who knew Phillipe knew
that this marriage would never work. Caroline was 19
or so, and Phillipe's birthday is the same day as mine,
except he is one year older, that made him 38 at the
time. He was way to much of a playboy, and the
marriage collapsed shortly after the wedding. The
wedding was held in the Palace chapel and the
reception in an area just outside of the Palace walls.
All in all, a heck of a wedding.
GET YOUR CHECK-UPS!!!!
I had no intention of writing any more about my
upcoming surgery February 23. I am mentally drained
by this whole thing, and I thought that the Poking,
Prodding, and Pricking was over, at least for a while.
But today, I had to go to Cedars Sinai, the hospital
where I will be operated on, and got nailed in my
finger for a blood sample, in my right arm for a pint of
blood for the operation, and in my left arm for yet
more blood tests. I cannot seem to get away from
this human pinata feeling!!! The reason I am
addressing this situation is in response to hundreds
of e-mails from Newsletter readers encouraging me to
use this "opportunity" to spread the word about
getting regular check-ups.
In fact I only had an extra physical right before I
departed last November because I knew I would be in
South America, Africa, India, Burma, Laos, Cambodia
and possibly Irian Jaya, all places I would not want
to go to a hospital in case something went wrong. It
was during this physical that a routine blood test
showed an elevated PSA count, indicating something
was wrong with my prostate gland. I was instructed
to have another test in 8 weeks, and you all know
what happened then.
The moral of this story is for EVERYBODY TO GET
REGULAR CHECK-UPS. I can honestly say that if it
was not for the Senior Bachelor Journey, I would
have waited until my return to the states this
summer for a check-up, and due to the fact that I
have an aggressive type of cancer, 7 on the Gleason
scale, I would have been in very seriously bad shape.
Thus, I can say that the Senior Bachelor endeavor
probably saved my life. Thank you, Ladies!!!
I have had three readers of the Newsletter take new
PSA tests and two of the tests have indicated a
biopsy is necessary. PLEASE go for your regular
check-ups, and for any men that you know, hit them
over the head about getting their PSA checked- it is
a simple blood test. I will try to make lemonade out
of this messy situation!!
Oprah and Friends:
As you probably know, last week Oprah announced
she will have a radio show starting in September. As
of today, they do not know the kind of programming
they will have, and I will be making a formal proposal
to the show for a weekly one hour broadcast,
addressing all of the issues I have been ranting and
raving about for these past 9 months. We
(everybody 45 and over and especially 50 and over)
need a spokesperson, an advocate, someone to step
up to the plate and talk about issues important to
us. I do not believe, in any way shape or form, we
are getting the attention and recognition we have
earned!! And I will try to be the lightning rod and the
thunder. Stay tuned!!!

Joe and I had conference calls this past week with
Holland America Lines and PerfectMatch,
coincidentally both located in Seattle. We are trying
our best to have both organizations contact men on
their client lists 45 and over, and tell them about the
two Senior Bachelor Cruises to Alaska this August.
After all, Umberto and I can't dance with everybody!!
Having said that, in fact the best recruiters of men
to the cruises will be you. This way the men will have
been "vetted." I will be sending out a cruise
Newsletter shortly, but only to the people who have
signed up for it. If you would like to receive it, please
e-mail me at richard@seniorbachelor.com and let me
know.
We also will announce details of parties and activities
the day before each sailing in Seattle. Keep this in
mind when you book your airline tickets. Details to
follow at a later date.
Things are heating up with the Alaska Cruises! I do plan to keep my "date" with all of you and host these two incredible Senior Bachelor kick off cruises. We have lots of fun things in store which we will be sharing with you shortly. Let's just say that, even if you have cruised before, you will come back saying you have never been on a cruise like this before!! I exchanged emails with Shawn, our Personal Cruise Consultant, and she wants me to remind you that these two cruises are in the "peak" of the Alaska cruising season. They are very popular in their own right- much less with the added attraction of having us party-ers on board! So please start checking your travel calendar and, if you think there is a chance you want to go, contact her ASAP. Your deposit goes directly to Holland America Lines and is completely refundable up to 75 days before the cruise. People seem to book the better cabins first so at least call her to check availability.
For information about the Senior Bachelor Cruise, click here! Remember to send me an email at Richard@seniorbachelor.com if you need a cruise cabin mate to save the single supplement. We've already matched up a whole bunch of people and I will be able to help you even while on the Journey. Or you can contact our Personal Cruise Consultant, Shawn, at Shawn@seniorbachelor.com or call 1-800-355-3017 Ext. 4294 Mon- Fri, 9:00AM to 6:00PM, PST. I love hearing from you about your experiences with PerfectMatch! I share them only with the writer's permission- usually given enthusiastically because they are excited to share their success. Fits nicely with our New Year's Resolution theme:
From Marti- "Richard, Want to tell you about my success with Perfect Match. I joined at the same time I started planning my trip to Chicago to meet you. David and I emailed a few times, then started two-hour phone calls each night for a couple of weeks, then met in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan immediately after Chicago (my Chicago "tour" included a leaf-peeking week in UP). Since then we have been almost inseparable - almost four months! Incredible! So, yes, I think Perfect Match works, and I have recommended it to a couple of friends. I had tried eHarmony at my sister's insistence for a month, with no luck, and David had tried three other sites at different times over the last couple of years and actually had met a few women. We both think we got lucky on PerfectMatch! Good luck!
