Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Monaco:
To Catch A Thief was shot in and around Monaco in
1955 and was directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring
Grace Kelly and Cary Grant.
Most of us have seen
this wonderful movie and the most memorable scene
is of Grace and Cary Grant driving down a windy
mountain road with her hair blowing in the wind.
Ironically, and tragically, this was the exact same
windy road right outside of Monaco where Princess
Grace had her fatal accident in September 1982.
While filming, Grace caught the eye of the very single
and very eligible Prince Rainier, and a meeting was
arranged, and the rest is history.
Many people have
speculated as to the cause of Grace's accident. I will
set the record straight as I do have very first hand
knowledge. The family has a mountain top retreat
called Rocagel, in France, about thirty minutes from
Monaco, and to escape everybody, only the
immediate family would go there. My family had the
pleasure of spending time there with them as you will
see from some of the accompanying photos.
(Photo- Grace cutting Richard Roe, Jr's hair at
Rocagel)
In September 1982, Princess Stephanie and Princess
Grace decided to make a quick trip down the
mountain to do some shopping, and none of the
chauffeurs were available, so Grace drove. (The car
was a beige Rover, the same car in which Grace and
I had driven in a few years earlier coming down from
Rocagel. It was during this trip that Grace pointed
out the spots where some of the scenes from To
Catch A Thief were shot.)
As Grace was driving down
the mountain with Stephanie, she suffered a mini-
stroke and was unable to negotiate the curve.
Stephanie suffered minor injuries and the world lost a
wonderful woman. That is THE story.
The photo of Princess Grace playing "Foosball" with
my son Richard was taken by me at Rocagel. This
was the only place both Grace and Rainier felt
comfortable in jeans and casual dress.
(Photo- Grace playing foosball at Rocagel with
Richard, Jr.)
The family
loved to make mini movies and they would write a
script and all take part. Rainier was an intensely
private man, but at Rocagel he could relax. I got
along very well with Rainier. He was a great man and
very dedicated to being a good father and to the
country he so loved. I have many fond memories of
my sixteen visits to Monaco, and as written before,
will show photographs and movies of my stays there
on the upcoming cruises.
Thank you for e-mailing me telling me that you are
enjoying the Monaco stories. Although, a few readers
wanted to know what Monaco had to do with
Promoting Romance and Adventure For People 45 and
over, and especially 50 and over. Well, nothing
directly, but as I write a weekly Newsletter, I think it
makes it more interesting to write about different
subjects. Not all "about us" all of the time.
Everything Is On Hold:
Many people have inquired as to the "rest of the
Journey." All of you know why the Journey was
interrupted, and now I must await the outcome of
surgery to take place February 23. I have told Lori,
Vija and Cindee that I am a man who sticks to his
commitments and will do all I can to try and do
something if and when that is possible. Even in a
best case scenario the trip would not resume in S.
America, then Africa and South East Asia, as the
timing is all wrong due to the monsoon season in
South East Asia. Thus, everything is on hold.
Thank you again for all of your wonderful e-mails of
support. Believe me, it means a lot to me. Also,
within the next week a Cruise Newsletter will be sent
out only to those people who have signed up to
receive it. There will be information about the two
cruises to Alaska this August, and some other
possible cruises for our group to the Mediterranean
and Caribbean later in this year. If you have not
signed up for the Cruise Newsletter but would like to
receive it, please e-mail me at
richard@seniorbachelor.com and let me know and I
will add you to the list.
PerfectMatch:
Each week I receive e-mails from people who have
subscribed to PerfectMatch. As in any dating service,
or anything in life, sometimes things work and other
times they do not. Overall, we have been pleased
with the results. Some wonderful relationships have
developed and I feel good about that. Realistically,
the odds are against any dating service or even
introductions via friends blossoming into a
relationship. What I encourage all of you to do is
to....try.
I see my role going forward as someone who creates
social get togethers, such as the cruises and parties
in various cities, and to recommend a dating service
for people our ages. To provide YOU the opportunity
to be in a relationship. Again, no guarantees, but if
you have a spare 15 minutes, and you have not
taken the free Compatibility Profile at
PerfectMatch,
please do so. You have nothing to lose, and if you
like the results of your profile, you could give it a try
for about $20 a month or so for a few months if your
budget can afford it. Richard Roe Senior Bachelor

Joe and I had conference calls this past week with
Holland America Lines and PerfectMatch,
coincidentally both located in Seattle. We are trying
our best to have both organizations contact men on
their client lists 45 and over, and tell them about the
two Senior Bachelor Cruises to Alaska this August.
After all, Umberto and I can't dance with everybody!!
Having said that, in fact the best recruiters of men
to the cruises will be you. This way the men will have
been "vetted." I will be sending out a cruise
Newsletter shortly, but only to the people who have
signed up for it. If you would like to receive it, please
e-mail me at richard@seniorbachelor.com and let me
know.
We also will announce details of parties and activities
the day before each sailing in Seattle. Keep this in
mind when you book your airline tickets. Details to
follow at a later date.
Things are heating up with the Alaska Cruises! I do plan to keep my "date" with all of you and host these two incredible Senior Bachelor kick off cruises. We have lots of fun things in store which we will be sharing with you shortly. Let's just say that, even if you have cruised before, you will come back saying you have never been on a cruise like this before!! I exchanged emails with Shawn, our Personal Cruise Consultant, and she wants me to remind you that these two cruises are in the "peak" of the Alaska cruising season. They are very popular in their own right- much less with the added attraction of having us party-ers on board! So please start checking your travel calendar and, if you think there is a chance you want to go, contact her ASAP. Your deposit goes directly to Holland America Lines and is completely refundable up to 75 days before the cruise. People seem to book the better cabins first so at least call her to check availability.
For information about the Senior Bachelor Cruise, click here! Remember to send me an email at Richard@seniorbachelor.com if you need a cruise cabin mate to save the single supplement. We've already matched up a whole bunch of people and I will be able to help you even while on the Journey. Or you can contact our Personal Cruise Consultant, Shawn, at Shawn@seniorbachelor.com or call 1-800-355-3017 Ext. 4294 Mon- Fri, 9:00AM to 6:00PM, PST. I love hearing from you about your experiences with PerfectMatch! I share them only with the writer's permission- usually given enthusiastically because they are excited to share their success. Fits nicely with our New Year's Resolution theme: From Connie in Canada: Hi Richard, Have been keeping in tune with the travels of you and the others senior bachelor girls and Umberto. It is my pleasure to wish all of you a happy Holiday and I can sympathize with your missing your 7 grandchildren. I am about to embark on my journey to northern Canada and then Tucson to visit my family. The greatest news- I have met the "perfect match" on PerfectMatch. Having been leery of these dating sites and had 2 terrible experiences, I tried PerfectMatch figuring Dr. Phil and you support it and then was on a flight recently and saw the movie 'Must like dogs'- I joined up. Norton was the only person who appealed to me and since Nov.29th-- we have come to know one another and also families have met and I who love animals- he has 2 horses, 3 dogs and a cat! I have a precious cat also. Good luck-- will stay tuned in. Cheers, Connie Ladies and Gentlemen, many of you have taken the free PerfectMatch Compatibility Profile to learn more about themselves to get better prepared to meet and date. You should try it out, too. One of the criteria for the 22 Finalists was to take the Free Compatibility Profile and I used the results in making my decisions. I did take the Free PerfectMatch Compatibility Profile, and it described me to a "T." It was simple and took less than 15 minutes. Of course, the proof is in the pudding, and only time will tell how this service works for you. My recommendation is to take the Free Compatibility Profile (click here to try it), and if you like what you see with the Profile results, and your budget can afford it, give it a try, and then later tell me your feelings. Good luck. We all are looking for our Perfect Match!!! Many people have asked about our association with PerfectMatch. After seeing Duane Dahl, the founder of PerfectMatch on Dr. Phil this past June, and doing some research, we felt this was a company we would like to start an association with to see what kind of results they might provide. I know from working with the Oprah folks how careful they are to research their guests, as does Dr. Phil, and this encouraged me. (Photo courtesy of "Merry Mary".) From Linda- "You asked for feedback regarding PerfectMatch. I have subscribed to several online relationship sites with varying amounts of success. However, I believe PerfectMatch has combined the most succinct and efficient program available for those of us with the mature status. Not only is help readily available if needed, the site navigation is seamless. I believe the questionnaires are very well done and if participants answer truthfully, the potential for finding the "perfect match" is excellent." From a reader in Georgia- "I never desired nor felt the need to join a dating service. On a lark, I decided to try the free personality profile with PerfectMatch. I was floored and amazed how right on they were on about me."
